1 Chapter - 1

"Sigh"

Putting on a smile I keep my shoulders pointing towards my cow-worker and point towards inbound.

"Yes the manager request some help moving non-con most of the trucks coming in are backed with them sadly"

Showing the corresponding emotion, I frown slightly staring my co-worker in the eye. Putting back on my smile chit-chat about nonsense that's irrelevant to me. This was my job it may not be much but it was honest work. As a member of the safety team, I knew the safety regulations and what to and not to do around the warehouse. After relaying the co-worker back to a new location filled with work. I make my way towards the office, a place I have no business being.

"Click"

Opening the door and hearing a few fellow safety members chatting I quietly made my way in and joined. I knew my place as a 23 yr old I had no business in the room. I stayed quiet while they talked only injecting a few words here and there. For a laugh or some valuable information I obtained. They were all my bosses, I was supposed to be out of the offices moving boxes but well. I am the definition of working smarter not harder. Why break my back when simply speaking can pay the same?

Days passed quickly turning into months, A drive a desire. Reading books I searched for a goal, sick of floating through life. I turned to books and searched for something to awaken a fire of desire.

This started when I was 4, I was good at almost everything.

Modern learning was never my strong suit sadly, but taking tests came naturally. It was the homework that killed me, Finding it useless I didn't do it. years passed I regret now I'm 23 turning 24 here in a little less than a year.

I chased after a dream which I couldn't achieve at least not with the resources available to me. My dream was an athlete but it was a fleeting dream as politics was laced throughout the sport. Having gone to college for a semester after taking a break from trying to become a professional a pandemic happens.

My life has fallen as low as it could. Forced to move back into my parent's house I continued to chase my dream. Drifting in this game of life trying to find another passion I can pursue.

Having been a jack of all trades became a curse I should have just chosen something to accel in. Of course, I knew this was wrong I learned a lot by exploring so many fields.

My social skills have skyrocketed and my mind has become sharper. My eyes shine differently as I carry myself with more confidence than isn't mistaken but earned.

Having dabbled in the dark and risen back to the light. I have witnessed both sides of the coin.

"Sigh"

Looking down at the mail I just opened I couldn't help it. It was the icing on the cake trying to push me over the edge. The police are coming at me for tax evasion, little did I know there is federal, state tax, and city tax where I am. I only filed for the federal and state.

Currently living with my parents I wasn't sure why I was being taxed. I could feel the headache coming, It was intense I was tired of society. putting the letter to the side I grabbed my kindle and got lost in another world. Having read for hours a smile formed on my face thinking about the future of the mc.

I giggled like a maniac

"Rumble"

"hmm?... An earthquake?"

My heart raced a bit, not much else happened. It was just a cool experience having never felt an earthquake my whole life this was cool. I was living in Austin, Texas. We experienced snow once that was an awesome experience also. After growing up I've traveled everywhere and seen tornados from afar. Amazing storms whose lighting light up the sky for many seconds before going quiet.

In non of these countries and states I've visited did I ever encounter an earthquake.

The building shook slightly as a few of my things fell in my room. I rushed out of my room and saw my parents.

"So where should we hide?"

My parents who were around 65 seemed to have been reborn as they rush about.

"Under the table!" My mom yelled

She was jogging since when could she jog! I witnessed a miracle today my mom was jogging!

My dad made his way towards the table walking slowly while making small comments.

"Seems to be about a 4.0 earthquake. Hmm, do I see a crack in my window? maybe it's a 5.0 or in between?"

Such nonsense passed out of his mouth as he probably thought of an article on earthquakes he read.

"Click" "Squeak"

My older brother opened the door coming from downstairs, gun on his waist ready for anything as always, His famous saying, "Stay ready so you don't have to get ready."

Thinking about this the headache from earlier eased up.

"Is everyone okay?" he asked in an inside voice while his eyes scanned the living room searching for everyone.

"Yeah I'm fine I'm heading down right now" I walked downstairs and headed towards the living room where my now healed mom was hiding under the table.

We all cramped under the table and waited, meanwhile we asked nonsensical questions back and forth.
