27 Tease (I)

Mu Rongcheng did not feel awkward at all. He looked nonchalant and said in a casual tone, "Oh, maybe I remembered wrong."

Remembered wrong...

'Do you know that my heart almost jumped out of my chest in fright because you 'remembered wrong'?'

Mu Zi pushed at her bowl with her head down. Her tense fingers wanted nothing more than to break the spoon in her hand.

She wanted to take a piece of water chestnut cake and try the egg roll pancakes, but Mu Rongcheng's eyes were watching her sharply, so she had to be cautious.

—What if he decided to bluff her again? 

Maybe she could just completely ignore him and eat whatever she wanted to eat.

What if there really was a dish on this table that the original Mu Zi would never touch? How would she explain that?

Lying was easy, but it was very hard to keep on lying. Mu Zi did not want to cause trouble for herself. 

She ate her wonton noodles and did not touch anything else.

Mu Rongcheng's thin lips raised slightly as if he could see through her thoughts. That vague smile and the laughter in those black eyes looked particularly hateful! 

Mu Zi felt depressed!

Bai Wei, on the other hand, was in a good mood. She felt especially gratified that her children could have breakfast at the same table in an amicable manner.

As for the awkwardness on Mu Zi's face, Bai Wei just thought that her daughter was being shy.

The three chatted while eating, but most of the conversation was Bai Wei asking about her children as their mother.

While talking about Mu Rongcheng's recent situation, Bai Wei could not help but chatter again. "It's better to find a job. We can't continue like this forever. If you don't know what to do, we can look for training institutions and let you learn some skills first…"

"I've already discussed it with several friends. I'm preparing to start a company." Mu Rongcheng said casually. He glanced at Mu Zi from the corner of his eyes.

"Start a company?" Bai Wei was surprised.

Her son, who had never attended to his duties, suddenly said that he wanted to start a company. She felt very uneasy.

"Uh… What would your company do, exactly?"

Bai Wei looked at her son nervously. She was worried that he would be cheated into doing illegal activities by those gang of scoundrels he called his friends.

Mu Rongcheng casually replied. "Anything."

He was still staring at Mu Zi.

Mu Zi pretended not to notice and buried her head in her food, completely refusing to make eye contact with him.

Mu Rongcheng's eyes carried a trace of willfulness. He stretched his legs under the table to touch Mu Zi's.

Mu Zi suddenly jumped from her seat!

She pushed her chair back and retreated several steps. Her face had turned pale white!

"What's the matter?" Bai Wei was startled.

Mu Zi hesitated. Her eyes flickered around and it took a while before she managed to choke out, "I just saw a mouse and got frightened…"

She could not say that Mu Rongcheng touched her and her conditioned reflex made her think that a snake was coiling around her again!

The feeling of something crawling and twisting around her ankle was still there. It caused her scalp to go numb!

"There's a mouse?" Bai Wei stood up nervously and looked around. "Where?"

Bai Wei was very afraid of mice, cockroaches and the like. She was also deeply aware of the health hazards they posed.

"It might have run outside already." Mu Zi said stiffly. She awkwardly pushed her chair back to its original place, not planning to sit down again.

She just wanted to stay away from him.

This man was vicious and cunning, and he looked at her like he was teasing his prey. She had to be on guard!

"Mom, I'm full now so I'll go back to my room." Mu Zi collected her thoughts and calmed herself.

The rejection the girl showed was obvious.

Mu Rongcheng's deep eyes narrowed. Dim lights flashed in his eyes as the curve of his lips grew more meaningful.

Bai Wei was looking for traces of mice in the dining hall when she heard Mu Zi's words. "Just leave the bowl and chopsticks. I'll clean them up later. Your injury isn't healed yet, so go upstairs and have a rest."

Mu Zi turned and headed for the stairs.

Then, Mu Rongcheng also stood up.

Mu Zi hastened her steps before she even had time to think! She had to stay away from that man behind her!

However, the man was tall and had long legs. He easily caught up with her in a few steps and grabbed her at the corner of the staircase just as she was about to rush into her room.

"What are you doing?!" Mu Zi's hair stood on end. "Let go!"
