5 System

Ding

{Level up}

{Access to system has been established. Finishing initialization}

{Took you long enough, Jurren}

"What? Who's there?" Jurren cried in surprise.

{I am the system access console created to receive all benefits that this world has to offer. I have been waiting to initialize for . . .}

"??"

{Over two decades?!?! What have you been doing for the last twenty years? Who stays at level one for twenty years? Wait, you were fifteen when we met. What thirty-five year old is level one?}

"Wo wo wo. Slow down," Jurren said, stunned by the outburst. "How can you know my age and level?"

To Jurren's knowledge, people could increase and level and power by fighting monsters, but the only way to know even the most basic information was by use of an appraisal stone.

{As I said, I am here to allow the user access to all benefits this world offers. Namely, the ability to free access one's [Status]}

" . . . "

{I have never seen a status like this}

"What is considered normal?" Jurren asked, slightly fearful of the answer.

{A level one human would normally have about 10 in each stat. Some races will have more in some and less and others. Also, because that stat points haven't been applied, it is still displaying your base stats.}

"Oh."

{But that's not even the strangest thing. Normally you get two stat points per level. You just got ten. And why are all of your magic skills maxed out?}

"Hu? Oh, I was studying magic for the last two decades," Jurren replied, still somewhat dazed.

{That still wouldn't explain it but I'll leave it alone for now. The strangest things are you race and all of these blessings.}

"What's strange about it?"

{Rarely, a person will receive a blessing or ability from one god. You have blessings from all of them. And I have never heard of a Manaling.}

"Okay," Jurren said slowly. "So what do these blessings do?"

{Focus on it and an explanation will appear.}

*************************************

- Blessings of All the Gods -

+ Blessing of the Reincarnation god (Farren): Experience gain correction. Growth correction.

+ Blessing of the god of Dimensions and Boundaries (Mugan): Barrier magic. Space-time magic. Boundary negation.

+ Other blessings sealed

"So these stats are at least partially Farren's fault," Jurren grumbled. "We'll be having a talk next time we meet."

{You have met the god Farren before?}

"Yeah, he is the one that sent me here," Jurren replied, not seeing much of a point in hiding. "Why are some of the blessings sealed?"

{Don't know. Divine powers are outside of my area of expertise.}

"So, I'll have to find his temple and have a little chat," Jurren grumbled, turning to continue on his journey.

{Wait!}

"What?"

{You should first distribute those stat points. Conscious distribution is one of the user's privileges. And we should set-up what will appear on an appraisal stone.}

"Just distribute them as evenly as possible and make me look average," Jurren said dismissively. "I'll leave it to you going forward."

{You are by far the oddest user that I have had in a thousand years of existence.}

Shrugging, Jurren continued walking through the night and into the next afternoon. For some reason he didn't feel the least bit tired. He only ate because he remembered to.

{Is there a reason that you are walking? I don't believe that there is a town for several weeks in any direction.}

"I don't have a horse and any tool that I could create would have trouble in these woods."

{Then why not fly?}

" . . . "

{ . . . }

"In my defense, I only studied magic. I don't have a habit of using it for everything."

After a moment of thought, wind swirled around Jurren's small body and gently lifted it into the air. Finally rising above the trees, he turned towards the nearest town and accelerated. Within a minute, he had broken the sound barrier and had learned the need of a frontal barrier to deflect the wind pressure.
