1 Lemon Weather

By: Laila Flores

Walking down the street I felt a strange bitterness in the air, almost as if life's sweetness had never existed at all. However, though this feeling haunted me, water trickling down my face with every step, the world still turned and life went on. I stared straight ahead, following that life that was so hard to catch up to, as best I could.

"Aren't you cold? Where's your umbrella?" I heard a small voice behind me. It was a little girl holding her own light pink umbrella, giving me a curious look. I bent down to talk to her, but before I could answer I heard another voice not far down the street and a woman popped her head out from her front door.

"Ayla, come eat before the food gets cold," yelled the woman, who looked to be the little girl's mom. She dropped the umbrella and ran toward the lady, yelling to me and stumbling over her own two tiny feet as she went.

"You can have it!" She shouted, smiling a smile that made that gloomy lemon weather, feel like the sweetest lemon I had ever had.
