Chapter 2: Final preparations

As I gathered with the other officers who were observing and arguing amongst themselves, I saw my company being deployed to the right wing of the attack with the mission to set up a perimeter before the rest of the army arrives.

" What is the count at the moment?" I asked trying to get a grasp of the current situation.

" 4 berserkers, 7 phalanx and 14 companies of bowman protected by 1 company of female spearman, sir!"

" Then why the hell are you sending them to the front as a group?! Signalman! Blow the retreat call! Pull the troops back! Fast! " I commanded.

As the horn was being blown. I saw 2 berserkers running on each side of the field as if opening the center for the rest of the army.

" We are pulling back to the Mountain Fort. first wall will mount up the heavy crossbows and cannons. Move the trebuchet to the rear and the rear guards to the front gates to form a funnel for the phalanx. All knights are to stand by with polearms and those trained with the new muskets are to move to the second line. "

The Dark Siders were usually very unorganized in a disorderly fashion. But this battle seemed almost as if a new military leader took over and reformed the army in just days. An ambitious plan but nonetheless dangerous. We are better than those mindless raiders who use nothing but brute force to tear down armies and raid villages.

"2 trebuchet are to be dug in behind enemy support lines near the river and the other outside of the forest. Captain Kelvin, Commander Darling get your men to pour the gasoline in the forest. And Darling, once you are done with the gasoline hide your unit In the ground beside the path. You have 4 hours use it wisely. Commander Alfa station the 4 of the best musketeers you have in those tree line and wait for my signal. My guess is that the phalanx will enter first. However each will only shoot 5 shots at the berserkers in any case. Strip them to minimal armour. Once they are done firing light the trees on fire and retreat back to base."
