5 Spellbound (Part One)

The Kiss. The levitation. The moving car.

CRASH!

~

Gwen fluttered her eyes open with a little gasp. Her face was coated with shiny beads of sweat riding down her neck. The pillows were soggy and damp from all the rolling.

This dream was tormenting her. Was someone trying to tell her something?

She slid her hand down to her chest again and the thought of her talisman being out there, in the hands of Chris, was killing her.

"Ring-a-ding-ding? Anyone home?" Mike asked in his squeaky, Mickey Mouse-impersonating voice.

"Come in, Mike." Gwen muttered softly.

He pushed the attic door open and pranced in with a tray. It had a plate of pancakes and orange juice in a glass.

"Breakfast is served!" He exclaimed dropping the tray onto her laps. Gwen looked at him with a face of shock and surprise spread over it. "You made breakfast...for me?" She asked.

"Marcus left for some odd fishing tournament by the bay and it's Saturday...so, I decided to cook for you." He answered curtly.

"That's so sweet, Mike."

"Gwen," He called, reaching for her hand, "I would do anything for you."

Her eyes rose off her hand and fixated onto Mike's. His smile was going to make her melt like butter on a hot muffin.

"We should eat, then." She said quickly, snatching her hand away from his.

"Nah. I'll eat later."

"I was just being polite. I'm super hungry."

Chris chuckled as she sniggered shoving a chunk of pancake into her mouth.

"That reminds me, Gwen. Where did you go last night?"

Gwen's face became pale and the Orange juice almost choked her. "Uh, what?" She forced out of her mouth with a gulp.

"Last night, you were going somewhere." Mike Said sternly like a detective on a crime case.

"Uh, to a friend's," She lied.

"In the Woods?"

The lie was back firing. She had to think of something. "We were picking out leaves for our Biology homework. It was fun."

"Oh," He breathed, "What's your friend's name?" Gwen couldn't lie anymore.

"Why are you asking me all these questions?

Did I do something wrong?"

"No, Gwen. You went to look for your talisman last night."

She paused in defeat as her nose began to itch and her eyes began to shine. A tear rode down her face.

"Hey," Mike said softly, wiping the tear away with his thumb, "I'm not mad."

"I didn't want to you to know because I didn't want you to follow me and put yourself in danger. I'm a bitch."

"No, you aren't," Mike said, sitting beside her, "You're the strongest, bravest girl I know. And the only girl who ever refused for me to buy her a smoothie."

She snickered a little. "Thanks, Mike."

"For what?"

"For everything." She said, wrapping herself around him in a hug.

"You know I'm enjoying this, right?"

"I do."

"I'm enjoying this very much."

She laughed lazily. Maybe this was the right chance to tell Mike about her powers. Suddenly, her phone buzzed.

She peeled herself from Mike and swiped the phone from the bed. It was text from Raven.

'GWEN, GET OUT OF BED!!! COME TO MY HOUSE, MITCH FOUND SOMETHING ELSE AND IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND!!!'

"I gotta go, Mike."

"Do you need a ride there?"

"Actually," She said, "I do."

"I'll take a shower and meet on the driveway." Luke said, excitedly.

"Same." Mumbled Gwen.

"Wait, what was Raven talking about when she said she found something that'll blow your mind?"

Gwen couldn't hide it from him anymore.

"Mike," She called, sitting back down, "You need to know the truth. It's time I told you everything."

"Okay, I'm listening."

~

"Wait a minute here," Mike halted, "So you're telling me that you are a witch and that your necklace is actually...magical?"

"Yes." She replied.

"What...What...What...bullshit!"

"What?"

"Yeah," He yelled, "You're just telling me all this fucking crap just because I told you I liked you. I mean, what the fuck is wrong with you?

You would have easily told me you didn't-"

"Mike, stop."

"-like me instead of concocting this bullshit of an excuse-"

"Enough, Mike." She was beginning to boil.

"-to make me stay away from you! Fact: Witches aren't real!"

"I said, enough!"

Her eyes became red and her hair streaked crimson. In an instant, the bottle-made chandelier snapped from the ceiling and floated midair. Everything in the room rose off the floor and suspended into the air.

Mike gasped and fell to the floor.

"Gwen," He forced out, "You are a witch."

Innocently, she asked, "Are you still giving me a ride to Raven's?"

"S-S-Sure. W-Why not?"

~

The room was dark. Very dark.

The only source of light were the lit candles encircling a figure.

It was Gina, the other witch in Carlton's Creek.

She took a piece of chalk and etched symbols onto the ground. 'Verna lork ehk matot sthui derwes ethrna loqi Hikl matrios Gwen!' She casted in Summerian.

The Symbols turned bright green and shone into her eyes as she grinned nastily.

Like nothing happened, the light died like a watered flame.

Suddenly, a spider wriggled it's legs and crawled from under the bed. It's eyes were bloodshot red and it was the size of a finger.

Gina picked it up and bent her head to whisper instructions to it.

"You know what to do. Go."

The spider wriggled it's legs in affirmation as it crawled off her hand and squeezed through an opening in the floorboards.

"That girl won't know what hit her." She breathed.

~

"What did you guys find?" Gwen said as she burst through the door with Mike racing after her.

Raven and Mitch were on the floor, staring into Mitch's phone this time. "Gwen," Raven began, "thank goodness you're-" She paused as she saw Mike standing beside her.

"It's cool, he knows." Gwen assured.

"What?" Mitch blared.

"Trust me, I didn't want to know." Mike cleared.

"Tell me, what did you find?" Whined Gwen.

"This." Raven said after she snatched the phone away from Mitch. It was a black and white picture of a werewolf with something clutched in it's teeth. It was the talisman!

"What?" Mike asked.

"According to the article from the same website, It says here that the Witches used the diamond to ward of Werewolves because they were sworn, mortal, arch enemies. But unknown to the witches, the talisman actually increased the power of the werewolves which is why they always stole it time and again."

"That was what I saw!" Gwen exclaimed, "I saw a werewolf the day I lost my talisman!"

"And Chris was with your talisman last night!" Added Mitch.

"So that means...?" Asked Mike.

"Chris is a werewolf!" Raven yelled.

"And so is his dad." Muttered Gwen.

"Look," Said Mitch as he got up, "I have a plan to get your talisman back...but it's not going to be easy handling werewolves and I need to know if everyone is in on this."

They all turned to Mike and grimaced at him.

"Why are you looking at me?" He bloated.

"Are you in...or out?" Asked Raven.

"Count me in, I guess. I mean, it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing to live with a witch," He said, looking at Gwen as she frowned, "and another to fight werewolves."

"Fine, then. We should all have a nice day and sleep on it. Tomorrow, we'll start plotting."

"I feel like an international spy." Raven whispered to Gwen.

"Me too." She replied.

~

Gwen climbed into her bed and yawned fiercely. The moonlight was dancing on the floor, giving the room rays of silvery light.

She shut her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Then, the spider squeezed out of the floorboards and chattered carefully onto her bed's frame. It crawled onto the duvet and glided onto her pillow. Her hair fell over, leaving strands of Crimson red hair where she rolled.

The spider cheekily walked onto her hair and plucked a strand off like a fruit. It wriggled it's legs excitedly and blinked it's bloody eyes as it crawled down the bed. It squeezed itself through the floorboards and vanished out of sight.

~

"Did you get it?" Gina asked the spider.

It opened it's mouth and dropped the strand of hair into her hand.

"Good girl!" She exclaimed.

The spider crawled down the table and back under the bed.

Gina held the hair strand like a pin as she strolled to a bowl of black liquid. She plopped the strand in. The liquid sparked emerald green and illuminated the entire room.

Gina began to cackle maniacally, just like a witch.

~

The next morning, Gwen woke up, happy that she didn't have any dreams last night.

She pulled her hands to move out of bed but a force held her back. She tried her legs but they didn't move either!

"What's happening?" She yelped.

'Oh, I'll tell you what's happening.' A voice echoed in her head.

'Me!'
