1 The First Chapter

Meanwhile I stood in front of the gigantic building and really admired it. I had been intimidated to be honest, it was big and seemed so incredibly powerful.

That would now be my new job, from today on I would work here, that was still incomprehensible to me.

I set one foot after the other and walked up the stairs, a man in a black suit stood next to the door, his job was to open the door, and he followed that. I nodded to him smiling and elicited a small and polite smile from him.

When I entered the entrance hall, I was once again struck by the language, as well as the first time. It was spacious and large and above all very elegantly furnished. Marble floors extended, here and there large plants stood in stone pots and here and there white statues and some paintings hung on the walls. A gigantic chandelier sloped from the ceiling and made the whole thing look even more pompous. There was a kind of switch, behind a blonde woman was sitting, she smiled friendly at me and greeted me, I did it as well. I had now gone to the elevator with my high shoes, which made a sound with every step, and drove to the top floor.

I'm a little nervous to be honest. I don't know my new boss yet. I wonder if he's nice. Because I had previously only spoken with his old assistant, who would retire and whom I would replace.

The elevator stopped and I took a deep breath and smoothed out my black pencil skirt. It was unusual to go to work in a skirt, high black shoes, a white blouse and a blazer. It was unfamiliar.

I gathered all my courage and stepped now from the elevator, I had to announce myself immediately first to the boss, who would explain to me then how everything went on. Alfina, the current assistant - the one who would retire - told me to keep going through, right next to her office was the boss's office. I walked towards it a bit insecurely and now stopped in front of the dark door.

Deep breath and exhale Elizabeth. Deep breaths and exhales.

With a shaky hand I knocked and heard a deep and male "Come in", dull behind the door. I put my shaky fingers on the door handle and pushed it down and opened the door. I peeked into the office.

The room is huge and surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, so that a lot of sunlight falls into the room. On the left side were two black leather sofas with a matching black table. On one wall there were shelves with a lot of books and folders. To my right there was also a shelf with many books and folders. A man was sitting at a table standing in the middle, he was reading a newspaper, so I didn't see his face either.

"You're the new girl." I heard him say. I nodded. "Yes, I am", it came from me, trying to get my voice under control, trembling with excitement. "Sit down," I heard him behind the paper and did what he told me and sat down. "You're Elizabeth Anderson", he asked, as if the last question, whether I'm the new girl, wasn't enough. "Yes." I replied and put my hands in my lap. There was silence at first and all you can hear is how he turned the pages of the big newspaper. "Okay, listen to me," he started.

How am I supposed to listen when I can't even see who's behind the paper?!

"I don't care why you took this job, I don't care what you did in the past, I don't care about your education and I don't care about anything. I want that you do your job properly here, and if that's not the case, I'll kick you out," it came out emotionlessly and coldly behind the newspaper. "All right. I'll do my best," I said and hoped not to sound insecure somehow. "Of course you will," it came from him and then he turned the page again. I hoped to catch a glimpse of him, but that hadn't been possible.

How rude?!

"Alfina will show you everything, she will show you what you have to do, what your tasks are. She will teach you the first day here," it came from my new and rude boss. "You will do as she tells you."

No, you know, I will disobey your instructions. What's all this nonsense about? And above all, he can't take that stupid newspaper down, I feel like I'm talking to the wall.

"Do you understand?" it now came out loud from him and I shrugged easily with fright. "Of course," I said and nodded eagerly, like a housemaid who's being scolded by her employer. "Well, you can go, Ms. Anderson." I got up now and went with my loud shoes through to the door and then disappeared behind the door.

What kind of guy is he? How rude?!

I just shook my head and went to the office next door. Alfina stood there and packed some things together. "And how was it? "Asked the older lady. She smiled at me with a friendly smile and her wrinkles came to expression, which adorned her face even more. "Pretty good," it came from me uncertain. She laughed heartily. "He's always a little strict with the new ones," she explained. "Above all, he's reluctant to let me go after all these years."

So he must be a little older, too. That sack. And such a rude person shall be my new boss. Great!

I smiled slightly. "Come on, you can put your stuff here and I'll show you around." I nodded and put my bag down and just took off my blazer, if I kept walking around in it, I'd probably die. "Come with me," she said and we went upstairs together.
