44 The truth

Once the groups formed, an official finally walked into the room. He looked around the room and he did not seem surprised by the results at all. The only outlier was Lucas. The official got a fright when he saw him. But he felt very sorry for him soon afterwards. The principal asked the officials to do this to see whether they could expect segregation from the examinees after the test. And by the looks of it, this was bound to happen.

After his observation, the official opened his mouth and said, " Quiet now!" When he said that he caught the attention of all the examinees in the room. They stopped talking amongst each other about why the official was so late, also making bets amongst themselves as to how the assessment would take place.

" You guys are so predictable... All we needed to do was give you time and you would revert to default settings and go back to what feels comfortable. As you can see this room is separated by colour and rank. This is the first time all four races have been brought together so I understand the natural disposition to want to be around what makes you comfortable. But unfortunately, we can no longer think that way. I'm going to lay all your hearts at ease now. Everyone in this room has passed, and no matter what the results of test 2 and 3 are you are welcome into this academy."

" You all probably confused as to why and how...? Before I can explain that I need you to agree to the contract you are about to receive." After he said that poof an unfolded scroll appeared in front of every examinee. Floating in the air in front of them with a pen.

Lucas looked at the piece of paper floating in the air. He took hold of it in his hands wanting to read the contents of the contract. The pen was still floating in the air. Lucas looked at the contract and started reading what was on the page.

The contract said that once signed you're officially a student of Rekwerth. As a student of Reckwerth, you have to uphold the laws of Reckwerth... Confidential information given should not be spoken to any party other than those allowed. If caught you will be taken to a disciplinary hearing where a judgement will be passed on to you. You could be sent to prison for treason or even executed depending on the severity of the information leak... You are obligated to military duties. For at least 3 months. This could be longer or shorter depending on your merits during your time.

After he finished reading the contract he understood its terms and conditions. Lucas knew that if he did not sign this contract he would not be allowed to enter the academy. He knew that when they said that everyone had been accepted just like that, there had to be a catch. Lucas looked at the contract once more and didn't find anything wrong with it. Whether he had to serve in the army or be an adventurer. It didn't matter, both required you to do battle and that is what he wanted. But he wasn't sure if there was some tricky fine print on the contract so Lucas called Thea. " Thea is there any catch or trick to this contract other than that that was mentioned?"

After a while, Thea said, " I haven't detected anything out of the ordinary on this contract. As such if you agree with the terms. You can sign the contract without a worry."

So Lucas took the pen still floating in the air and signed his name and surname on the contract. After he did that the contract disappeared. Then Lucas looked around to see who had done the same thing. And by the looks of it, the hall of 400 people had signed the contract. Nobody left it unsigned. Lucas assumed this was probably the case for all the other halls that were taking part in test two.

After all the contracts had disappeared the official smiled he then said, " Good! I like your resolve. Your decision to become Mages will further the human race. Now I understand you all are probably a bit curious as to what is going on. Well here is information you will not here outside of these walls. Principal Vinay had previously spoken about the treaty that all the nations signed. The reason that was given was that it was in fear of an all-out war between us humans. There is some truth but not entirely. We do fear an all-out war but not between humans but between humans and demons. You see our scouts have picked up that the demon Kingdom are beginning to make their moves on us. As prideful as each race is we all know that alone we will be wiped out. So we have signed a temporary ceasefire to take care of the imminent and most pressing problem. As such we have begun integrating different races into the different kingdoms. To accustom people to see different races.

Another reason why we cannot have segregation within this academy. We have to work together. Together we can use lost magic and this will give us a fighting chance against the demons. "

This information staggered everyone. No one knew what to say... They had just heard that the feared demons were on the move and that they were going to have to fight them one day. Demons were a topic that mothers used to scare children into doing the right thing. Such as, if you do that demons are going to eat you. Demons were also talked about in bedtime time stories as a thrilling story. The word demon showed itself in a lot of idioms related to catastrophes. You could read about demons in the old books. You could also read about the war the humans had with the demons many years ago in the public library.

The official saw the fear grow amongst the examinees. So he quickly said, " Your fear is good. It shows you are taking this as serious as you need to. But again on the race thing. This decision was not made mildly and later you will see the importance of integration. But for now, let's see if your instincts are correct and you chose to sit with people of equal talent to you." Then the official thought to himself, " I wonder if the results of test two will cause more separation between the students or will it show them how incomplete they are alone..."

After his thought, he clapped his hands together and further up ahead in an empty space. Another see-through crystal emerged from the ground. This crystal was twice the size of the crystal of test 1 and was resting on a black glass mount.

The official said, "Everyone get into rows of 10 like in test 1. We are going to be testing you one by one. But after you are finished you do not leave the building you sit down on the other side of the room until everyone is tested. This test will test whether you have an affinity to magic other than your natural element. Here at Reckwerth, we place great importance on your affinity for magic. If you do not have a high enough affinity for a magic type you will not be able to attend those classes. Despite if that is the magic you want to learn. So pray your love, loves you too. And those of A and B rank potential that perform well here too will be able to skip test 3. Now let's begin. May the first person please step forward. "
