11 Combat

Lucas found one and the title said " F Rank Fireball" this intrigued him because he needed a spell that could do damage to kill the monsters that he would soon meet.

What's more is that this spell is an elemental one! Which is perfect to test the strength of his new found blessings. Lucas couldn't contain himself any longer. I mean on earth his goal was to become a meteorologist. And then one day use equipment to force certain weather to occur. So basically, the human equivalent of superpowers. Lucas has been suffering from 8th-grade syndrome (1) for a while but now his fantasies are his reality!

Lucas opened the book in such a slow and majestic way that one would swear he was handling a national treasure. He then started reading with a focus so serene your eyes would blur just by looking at him.

After 30 minutes of reading Lucas finished the book.

[Rechecking hosts words "Mmm, paying 5 SP to gain more SP, seems like a good deal. But first, let me go raid the magic aisle and then read a suitable book."]

Deducting 5 SP. Host prepare for teleportation in 10,9]

" WAIT, WAIT! I still need to learn how to control my mana. I still need to practice my spell!"

[Teleportation array has already started. If you wish to stop, another 5 SP will be needed upon restart. Do you wish to stop? Yes/No]

Mid the System's speech a white magic circle appeared above Lucas and another one below him. On the circumference of each magic circle, a white light came out connecting the top and the bottom into a cylinder-like shape. Much like the spell used for the soul migration array.

"No," Lucas said reluctantly.

...

"System I can't see a thing, where did you take me?"

[The system has transported you into an undiscovered dungeon in the outskirts of Zul'ras land of the Demons.]

" Land of the Demons! I'm far too weak to fight a Demon. From my Earth knowledge, the humanoid types are naturally gifted with high physical prowess and large mana pools. I'll be killed instantly! I don't want to be caught completely unprepared let me quickly learn how to control my mana. Wait how can I practice my new spell if I still need to save mp for actual combat!? Will I have to practice in combat...?" Lucas pondered

"Currently my max mana points at this level is 100. How much mana does a single use of the spell use? When I finally control my mana and I level up I'll gain 100 mana points, but what if I levelled up first would I gain the full amount of mana points for the level I'll be at. Or would it still be 100?"

[If you level up first and then learn mana control you will gain the full mana points of the level you learnt mana control on. System advises against this method for you will most likely die!]

Lucas then understood that he had to somehow make do with what he had.

"System how do I learn to control mana and store it inside of me?"

[ You already have mana inside of you, you just can't control it. The way you can learn to control your mana is to first feel mana as an entity inside you then visualize the mana coursing through your body until you can move it at will and then do it subconsciously]

Lucas thought " Okay let's do this". Lucas closed his eyes (even though it's dark) calmed his mind and started breathing slower with deeper breaths. He did this for a minute to get into a focused state. He then tried to visualizing mana as an entity but trying to visualize something he had never seen before was proving to be harder than he anticipated.

He continued, he never lost focus not even for a second. Lucas kept trying to visualize mana and trying to feel it. Suddenly he could feel the hairs on his body tingling and then a purple light appeared in his mind this was mana! He could finally visualize it and feel it. The feeling of the mana he felt in his body could only be explained with one word, "power!".

Lucas then tried to move the mana. He visualized the mana moving from his stomach area to his right arm and then from the right arm and around the body.He could feel the mana running rambunctiously in his body.

He had yet to obtain mastery but after every cycle, it became easier and easier till eventually, he could move it as easy as it is to move your feet.

" My mana control hasn't reached the level of mastery yet but I believe it's sufficient. Time to learn the spell but first. System, activate all my blessings"

Lucas wanted to test his own talent without the help of the blessings first. Even though learning speed would increase had it been active. Lucas is prideful but not stupid so he decided that he could no longer delay the process only to fuel his pride.

[ Activating all three blessing ]

" I only get 100 mana points a day so that means I need to use them sparingly..."

At this moment Lucas saw a light in the distance. The light was bobbing up and down as it got closer and closer to him. Lucas could now see that the light was actually a flame torch! The flame's light was showing the head of that which was holding it. The skin of this creature was green and it was short in size. It had razor-sharp teeth with a resting mischievous face. Lucas thought " These looks, the size, that face that says I'm about to do something naughty. It can only be goblins!"

Lucas was relieved that it was only a goblin. In all the novels he read goblins are very weak creatures with weak bodies. But he still did not underestimate his opponent and focused his gaze on the goblin that kept coming closer.

" I've waited for a while now and it seems that there is only one Goblin. Even though this is good how can I attack him? If I try to practice my spell now he will notice me and that takes the element of surprise away, no pun intended. But to wait and then fire a spell that I've never performed before is just as risky. There could be a chance that I don't get it right? " Lucas thought.

After some thought, Lucas decided he would rather do the surprise attack for if he does fail it has the highest probability of escape.

One last time Lucas checked his stats to see what he can depend on. Afterwards, he waited till the Goblin was out 4 meters away. Lucas could now see a bit of the dungeon. He was in a cave with walls tightly around him. There was no space for dodging left or right only back and forth. This could be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on how things played out.

Lucas rid himself of all thoughts that were unrelated to spell casting and started focusing. He then prepared for the spell by bringing his mana to his hands. When the goblin entered the projected range. Lucas aimed his hands at the Goblin at this moment a red magic circle appeared in front of his hands and a small fireball was growing steadily in plain sight.

At this moment the Goblin got such a fright seeing a magic circle appear out of nowhere. The goblin looked at the fireball and noticed its size. The goblin harumphed, completely writing it off as useless he then took out his sword from its case and charged at Lucas.

Lucas began to panic and thought "Why is it so small? I followed every step of the book. I even activated all my blessings, shouldn't this of helped here but this size could only hurt a fly." The fireball was the size of a tennis ball.

Lucas saw the goblins expressions and how he looked at him with derision. Even though he was panicking the only thing he could do now was release his fireball for trying to run away would surely get him killed. Lucas then said " Elemental arts, Fireball".

With a hiss, the fireball flew in the direction Lucas sent it. The Goblin saw the ball coming to him and paid it no mind so he kept charging to run through it and then slash Lucas with his sword.

Lucas took a deep breath as this was the moment that decided whether he lived or died. The Goblin was charging at him and the fireball was moving closer to the Goblin. Finally, impact happened the fireball cut through his armour and making whole in the leather but shortly afterwards it disappeared.

The Goblin was initially worried because the fireball cut through his armour with such ease. But now it had magically disappeared as it appeared. The Goblin kept charging at Lucas, Lucas could not see everything properly but he could feel just how much bloodlust was coming from the Goblin.

Lucas thought " Aaah I'm dead, I just obtained a new life here and here we go again just when I'm at the starting line the finish line appears."

The Goblin continued to charge at him until he was 1 meter away. But to no one's expectation, the Goblin's charge stopped. The goblin was now walking slowly to Lucas. It looked in pain?!

"What just happened!?" Lucas thought. The goblin that was walking slowly now completely stopped not walking an inch. Its throat was going through peristalsis until he spewed a mouthful of green blood all over the flaw. After this, the Goblin had no strength to stand and was lying on the ground in a foetal position. The Goblin used up a lot of strength to look up and stare at Lucas. After Lucas saw the expression of the Goblin Lucas thought of a phrase from his world " If looks could kill".

The goblin knew it was going to die soon so with his last bit of strength the Goblin screamed and with a satisfied look, it died!
