1 Chapter 1

I roll my suitcase outside to the porch. Fay and Zoey are standing outside in the rain.

"Wat doen julle hier?", I run towards them.

{What are you guys doing here?}

"Jy dink regtig dat ons sal jou gaan sonder om totsiens te sê. Jy moet kranksinnig wees", We laugh.

{You really think we're going to let you off without saying goodbye. You must be insane}

"Ek gaan julle twee so baie mis", We go in for a group hug.

{I'm going to miss you two so much}

We say our goodbyes as my mom calls me to climb in the taxi.

"Ek gaan julle so baie mis". I say once more before climbing into the taxi.

{ I'm going to miss you both so much }

We ride in the taxi all the way to the airport. Before we get into the airplane we take a good look back at the airport. Goodbye South Africa. Goodbye Cape Town.

"Dink jy pa sal gelukkig wees as ons Londen toe gaan?", I ask my brother Spencer on the plane.

{Do you think dad will be happy if we go to London?}

"I think he'll be happy for us", Spencer doesn't like speaking in Afrikaans, he says it's very inappropriate. I think otherwise.

The plane takes off and I brace for impacted. Spencer holds my hand and my mother asks me if I'm alright, I reply with a gentle "Yes".

The reason why I'm going to London is because it's where my mothers from and because my dad passed on a few days ago. He was from South Africa so that's why we stayed there. Spencer and I are from South Africa too. I'm really going to miss my dad, I was the closes to him. We had the most things in common. I'll miss you dad.

We finally land in London and it's really hot here. I forgot the temperatures are different from South Africa and London.

"Come on you two, we need to get another taxi", Mom rashes us.

Mom doesn't speak very good Afrikaans. Even though she's been in South Africa for over fifteen years now.

We get our luggage and walk outside the airport to get a taxi, lucky for as there are a bunch of taxi's standing outside.

"Mom where are we going?", Spencer asks.

"Somewhere?"

"Like?", He drags out the conversation.

"Stop asking mom I want it to be a surprise", I say.

"Thank you Jean", She gives off and devious smile.

The taxi stops and that means we reached our destination. The place is huge. Are we really living here? We get our luggage out of the taxi's trunk. The driver drives away and we stand on the front porch of the huge house.

"Mom are you sure it's the right address?", I ask with a serious tone.

"Of course it is my dear, why?".

"Just asking, because how do we afford this house", I ask.

"We shouldn't be the people to worry about that?".

The door finally open and a lady with a housekeeping outfit stands in front of the humongous door.

"Frances!", She screams, "It's been years, where have you been?", She hugs my mom.

It's clear that's she's known my mother for a while.

"Melissa, oh my dear friend I've missed you. I've been in South Africa", Moms says while looking at us.

"Are these yours, there beautiful. She looks just like her mother", I hate it when people say that, not that I don't want to look like my mom it's just that when people say that it makes me seem old, you know?

She let's us in and the house, it's even bigger than it looks outside. It looks like nine people live here at least. Wow it's looks great. I can't believe we're going to live here.

"And this is your room", Aunt Melissa shows me to my room.

It's small but enough space for me.

"Thanks aunt Melissa".

"Aunt? Oh please I'm not that much older that you, I'm only twenty. Your mother and I met when I was only five years old, but that was a long time ago. Now start unpacking tomorrow will be a long day, and Melissa is fine", She leaves the room.

I begin unpacking all my suitcases. The cupboard isn't really that big but I guess I'll manage. A few hours later I'm done packing my things in there places. I guess the cupboard was big enough for all my things. I pop my books on the shelves opposite my bed. I wonder if my mom needs any help packing, I should ask her.

"Mom?", I knock on her door.

"Uhm...Come in dear", I do as she says and open the door to her room.

"I just wanted to know if you needed any help unpacking".

"No thank you darling but I'm almost done", She unpacks a box and finds dads favourite tie.

She holds the tie between her fingers. I notice her eyes watering up and I have no idea what to do. Mom and dad where really close I can understand her pain. I miss him too, on Fridays after school I would always go work for him or he would take me out for a few hours for ice - cream at our favourite ice - cream store Hagen Diaz.

"I miss him too mom. Every moment of every hour", I sit next to her.

"That's something your father would of said", She laughs and wipes away her tears.

"You know your father always saw the best in you, even on the worst of days".

"He was the only one who saw the real me", It's true he was.

"But enough about your father let's get you and your brother something to eat".

We knock on Spencer's door and he opens it.

"What do you want for supper?", Mom asks Spencer.

"I don't know, how about spaghetti?".

"That sounds good", I answer with a smile.

"Great then I'll get started on it. Jean will you help me please?".

"Of course mom".

We walk to the kitchen. The kitchen is decorated with beautiful black and white tiles with an island standing perfectly in the middle of the room.

"Wow mom! I can't believe this is our new house".

"It's not our house dear, we're just the guests", Huh?

"Guests? What do you mean guests? Who else lives here?", I know I ask a lot of questions.

"Many people", Melissa steps into the kitchen.

"What do you mean".

"Honey the spaghetti it's burning", I forgot to turn the heat of the stove lower.

"Sorry mom".

"It's okay".

"Now tell me who else stays here?".

"It's clear your mother didn't tell you anything yet. Jean your mother and you are maids here, so am I", A maid?

"What? I'm not a maid. Who's maid am I".

"The owners of this house of course One Direction".

"Who?", What's a One Direction?

"You don't know who's One Direction".

"Jean spent most of her time studying she didn't really worry about anything else", Mom says stirring the pot.

"So your a smart kid then. how old are you Jean?".

"Eighteen".

"College?".

"Nope I'm not going", Her asking me these questions is really weird.

"Well why not, if I my ask?".

"I have to be her for my mom, she needs me".

"Thank you dear", Mom smiles at me.

I can't believe I'm a maid now. This is quite strange honestly. From being a loner in a small city to becoming a domestic worker in a huge house. This is what I call life, full of ups and downs. Mom turns off the stove and I hand her a few plates to serve everyone in. I hear foot steps coming from the stairs. it's them I wonder what they look like?

Five men step from the staircase. Where are the women?

"Melissa where are the women?", I whisper into her ear.

"There aren't any. Well they'll get married someday but otherwise it's just them".

Just them? Strange. I guess their just a boy band then. Mom gives me two plates filled with spaghetti and I head to the table. They sit down as Melissa and I serve there food. I walk back to the kitchen. That was really weird.

"Was that a new worker", I hear one of them say.

"I think", says another one.

I eat my supper mom dished out for me. Spencer steps into the kitchen and joins me by the island.
