2 My Turning Point

It is January 20,2020.I am Jessica,a seventy year old woman who lives in a small city of Russia named Ufa.Google it later. I sit in my rocking chair and sigh remembering my college days .It was the summer of 1968 and I was a freshman at Bailey High. If you entered one of the rich streets you must have seen people walking around with big radios close to their ears waiting for their djs to shout from their radios "Hello people, this is your favourite dj Mayak from Radio Russia." Now you must be wondering who Mayak is as I took his name as Russia's favourite dj. He was my dad. That's correct. My dad was the all-time favourite dj of Russia so you can imagine we belonged to a top class family, right. Our house was situated in the start of the rich streets.I had just graduated from my high school in America and had returned to Russia to pursue higher studies.I was watching tv when my father came into my room with a stranger. He sat on the edge of my bed and asked me to switch off the tv. I got up and switched off the tv and went back on the bed.The stranger handed me a picture of a building named Bailey High which looked just like a palace with spiral staircase in the front going till the third floor. It looked like a set of a palace from a rom com I used to watch. With a puzzled look, I looked at my father to see him smiling at me.I asked him as to why was I given this from a person I had never seen and moments after I was informed why.It was my college where I was going to go to this year at the start of January. After they had left I started packing all my essentials and dresses that I would be needing while I was there. I was always sent to the top schools and tuitions and after all my father had done for me,my teachers always taught me that working hard was my only motto. I think I was the only girl who hadn't dated anyone, after the nerd of the city,Sofia Serenov. I am not saying that I had something missing in my looks but my dad did not allow me to date until I was 18. At 8pm when we all sat down for dinner, my father was grinning ear to ear as he told us that he was going to be awarded as the best dj in Russia on the coming Saturday and wanted all of us to be there. I had never been to any of my dad's ceremonies because either I was away studying or too shy to go to parties. Now I regret my decision that I was grown up and was ready to go to parties. Cause this was the day when my life turned upside down like a scary roller coaster. That day when i reached the party hall with my parents, all I saw was two types of people. One was the models I used to see on my favorite rom.coms with interest and the second was bald men who my whole family saw with scared looking faces during wars and such trivial things. As I saw my favourite actresses walk past me all I wanted to do was ask for an autograph but our family also had some reputation so I wasn't allowed to do that. I suddenly felt that someone was staring at me from the back. As I turned around I saw a girl who was very pretty to be clear with. As my mother saw me looking at her, she gestured to me to go and talk to her. She looked very kind as she was smiling at me and as her eyes were bubbling with joy. When I finally reached where she was standing with her family, she took me by the hand and after getting our parents permission we headed out to the garden which was known for its beauty all over Russia. As we passed trees and fountains and bushes, the girl kept on looking back and forth to see if I was comfortable. After we were far enough from the crowd we sat on a bench near a big fountain and stared at each other awkwardly not knowing what to say. Finally she broke our stare by saying that she was excited to see a teen after so long in these parties. We spent the next fifteen to twenty minutes knowing each other. Her name was Natalie Taylor and she was also going to Bailey High as a freshman. Her father was one of the richest businessmen in Russia. After talking to her for some time I got to know that she was younger than me. She got an early admission because she had always been good at studies. I liked her. I mean, she was good and kind. She liked playing tennis and enjoyed watching rom.coms. She was very much like me but very pretty and had dated numerous times in the past. We headed in to see our parents talking to each other. When they saw us, they asked us to come to them. My father told us that we will be going to the same school, which we knew from before but we just looked surprised so he does not feel bad. Then we just had dinner and talked about our lives and where we had studied and what we wanted to become. After we had finished our dinner, there was a long speech by one of the bald men, which we did not pay attention to! After he had finished we headed home after bidding farewell to the Taylor family. I slept early because the next day I had a long trip. I had to travel half of Russia to get to the school. It was pretty far from our house so we had to take many flights to reach there. I was very excited to get there for some reason which I also did not know.
