1 Chapter 1

"Mother! I can't get coronated in front of regular people!" I shouted

"oh why not dear? Your going to be eighteen and your the next powerful witch people should praise you" Mother said

"that's exactly why mother! what are you gonna tell them when power enters through me?"

"well-"

She didn't have an answer.

"Mother you don't understand that this world would burn witches if they found out that we exist"

"fine no coronation but we are having a ball"

Mother pranced to the ball room before I can say another word. Brother would understand. I stomped up the stairs to the end of the corridor. I put my ear up to the door. I could hear a girl in his room but that didn't stop me from barging in.

"Damien! Mother has gone loony I need you to put some sense into her!"

Damien was under the sheets and the girl was desperately trying to get her clothes on.

"Rogan! What did I tell you about barging in?" he said

"Excuse me for not wanting to die on my eighteenth birthday"

My brother waited till the girl left before he spoke to me.

"you're gonna become the next powerful witch No one's gonna put you in danger"

"not unless your mum she's gonna throw me a ball for my birthday" I said in a whiny tone

"that's actually not a bad idea"

My brother has this power where images of items and people would show up in his head and he solves the puzzle. He calls them warnings. When his power is active it looks like he's staring into space.

I could tell my brother is receiving a warning. He motioned me to turn around.

"what did you get warned about?" I asked

"I'm not exactly sure I saw you, people and a bright light"

"Bright light? Should I be worried?" I asked

"no but you should be cautious"

He started walking out the room.

"wait! What about the ball?" I yelled

"let mum do it. Besides it would show the other families that were normal"

Then he left. I stood there thinking about the warning. Then I felt hands on my shoulders. I was about to scream but I realized who it was.

I turned around.

"How dare you sneak up behind me? You know how easily startled I get Jessie!" I said

"Sorry babe you know stealth comes with being a vampire"

"What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to surprise you. Happy birthday babe"

He leaned in and gently kissed my lips.

"What's wrong?" Jessie asked

"My mom is throwing me a ball tonight"

"I know my family got the news they're definitely coming"

"so you'll be there?"

"I wouldn't miss it for the world"

I heard footsteps.

"You have to go" I whispered

He kissed me again

The door opened and it was Damien. I turned around to see if jessie got away. He did.

"are you still worried about the ball?" Damien asked

"Yes I am, we don't even know when I'm receiving my power and every supernatural creature out there would love to take advantage of me to have unlimited power on their side. Not only is this dangerous but my life is on the line"

I walked passed him.

"where are you going?"

"to get ready for the ball"

Then I slammed the door behind me.
