Ellixia Grant is a simple 18-year-old girl living in a small town, not until an invitation changed everything. Seven vampires. Thousands of secrets. Millions of lies. Join Ellixia and get bitten by the mystery no one has ever solved.
It all started with an invitation.
"Come on, Xia! It's just for a night!"
The loud booming sound entered my whole system, making me frown. The neon lights were moving rapidly in the darkness, making my eyes hurt. I kept pulling the hem of my black fitted dress downward as Faye and I pushed through the crowds. Faye lend me her dress saying I shouldn't go clothed with my nerdy outfits.
My long black hair was moving freely up until my waist. The black fitted dress was accentuating my figure, and Faye matched it with a black stiletto. I feel like I am so not myself tonight.
"Welcome to Vankov's mansion! Pretty cool, right?" Faye and I were holding hands, or more like, I was grabbing onto her tightly. There was a wide smile in her face as she bragged about Vankov's house. I just kept nodding, trying to avoid the people dancing wildly everywhere.
It took us minutes to get onto a couch because of the large crowd.
See, I never wanted to go to this party. If only Faye hadn't seen the invitation in my locker, I would've been staying in my room right now, studying peacefully just like I always used to. Unfortunately, she saw it and forced me to go here.
And that's the mystery I've been trying to solve. Who in the world put the invitation inside my locker?
"Is it him?" I mumbled to myself, thinking of my friend slash enemy.
Besides Faye, I have another friend whom I treat as an enemy sometimes. So to conclude the matter, I only have two friends.
But I'm uncertain if it is really him. I don't know if he is friends with that Vankov who owns this mansion. I never saw my friend hang out with guys because he's always with girls. On the other hand, Faye is always with the boys.
"Maybe Vankov is the one who put it. I always suspect that he's interested in you." Faye stared at me with a grin, moving her eyebrows up and down. She untied her ponytail and let her blonde hair move freely until her shoulders, telling me that she was planning to flirt with a lot of guys again.
I rolled my eyes and leaned on the couch. "Stop thinking such scary thoughts, Faye. I prefer getting an F than that happening."
"Are you sure?!" She took a sip of her champagne and leaned closer. "You prefer having failing grades than dating Vankov? Are you sure?"
"Well..." I started to have second thoughts since failing grades is the scariest thing for me. Besides, I don't even know who in the world is Vankov. I'm too busy with my books.
Faye chuckled as her eyes roam around. I saw her making eye contact with a tall guy nearby. "Stop lying to yourself, Ellixia Grant. You can't afford to fail. It's because you're afraid to be a disappointment in the eyes of others." She put on some lipstick again and stood up.
"Now, I brought you here to enjoy. No one will judge you here, Xia. Have fun once in a while." She winked and tapped me on the shoulder before leaving with that tall guy.
Faye is a straightforward woman. Her words might hurt but she never told a lie. It's always the truth.
Everything she said is not wrong. All I did my whole life was study hard because I don't want society to judge me. I don't want them to look at me like I've failed.
But I'll be lying if I'll say I am enjoying my life.
"How's the party, Grant?"
My head automatically turned when I heard my surname.
It was kind of weird seeing this white-haired guy with piercing and having a bad boy look. He always looks like the neat type at school.
"Storm!" I flashed a small smile at him. I raised my voice slightly since the booming sound was too loud. Storm sat across me and handed me a glass of champagne.
"Sorry, I don't drink!" It felt like we were shouting at each other because of the music.
"Oh right!" He chuckled, his almond-shaped eyes are almost close as he smiled widely. "I almost forgot that you're the perfect girl at campus!"
Storm Howls. He's the other friend I am talking to, the friend slash enemy. I treat him as an enemy sometimes since he's second to me in our rankings.
"There's no such thing as perfect!" I retorted.
He crossed his legs, placing his elbow on his thigh. He let his chin rest on his open palm. "But I am amused. You did come here after all." A grin flashed on his lips.
What he said made my eyebrows furrow. "Don't tell me you're really the one who placed that invitation in my locker?"
"Guilty!" He put both of his hands up and chuckled. "I just want you to have some fun!"
"And he wanted to see you."
"What?" I raised my voice again. I didn't hear the last words he said because of the freaking sound.
"Nothing! You look gorgeous by the way!" He stood up as a bunch of girls started calling him to dance. "Do you want to join us?"
"No, I'm fine! You go!"
"All right!" He was about to go,
but what he did next made me frozen.
He suddenly went back and leaned at me, his arms trapping me in between. My instincts kicked in and I immediately leaned on the couch. Our lips almost crashed!
I felt his cold breath passing down my neck as he whispered something. "I hope it's not you, Grant. I really hope so."
He pulled away and the next thing I knew he was gone.
What was that?
I tried getting some sense with his words but I guess he's just drunk.
"I better get going." Still baffled, I grab my phone inside my pocket and started calling Faye. I think I should at least tell her that I'm leaving.
"Faye!" I called when she picked the phone up.
"Xia! Why you callin' me? I can't hear you!" There was the loud booming noise on the other line telling me she was still somewhere around here.
"I have to go!"
"Sorry, what?!"
"I said I have to g-!"
The lights suddenly turned off. In an instant, the vast place was filled with darkness. Even the loud music was gone. Even the noises coming from the people.
All that was left was silence.
I felt a chill running down my spine as I found myself standing in the middle of the darkness. I can't see anything. All I can hear was the silence ringing sharply in my ears.
It felt like I was stuck inside a nightmare.
I inhaled sharply, not making any sound as I felt an immense danger. I don't know where it was coming from, but I can feel it. It's something enough to make my knees tremble. Cold sweat ran down my forehead as my chest thumped heavily.
*Click*
I almost cried in relief when a faint red light turned on. But it was still dark and the red and black surroundings were making everything creepier.
And what I saw next made fear crawl into my skin.
I stopped breathing, my trembling eyes roaming around.
Everyone was slumped on the cold floor. I don't know if they're unconscious or dead. And I don't know how it happened. I don't know who did it.
Is this a dream?
Did I fall asleep in the library again?
Am I drunk?
"You said you're a hundred percent sure! How come they're all down?!"
I heard a deep voice echoing, but judging from the footsteps I'm certain he's not alone. My instincts kicked in and the next thing I knew, I found myself hiding behind the couch, covering my mouth with my cold shivering hands.
"I really felt it! There was a strange energy at the campus! It wasn't human!"
"Maybe the Mnemosyne didn't come here?"
"Or maybe it's one of the Children of the Moon."
I have no idea what they are talking about. All I know is I'm confused, scared, and desperate about how to escape this bloody mansion.
"Look, it's Faye! Isn't she Ellixia's friend? Maybe she came, too?"
My chest thumped wildly as I heard mine and Faye's names.
Why do they know us?
Are they someone we knew?
I shut my eyes tight for a moment and tried to think about how to get Faye and myself out of this situation. But I was totally on the verge of breaking down. I can't think straight!
The red lights were the only source of light in the big mansion and it was not helping me to calm down. My eyes immediately roam around and I curse myself for staying too far from the door.
"Now, let me taste Faye Cohen. Will she be as sweet as a candy or as bitter as a medicine?"
My whole body shuddered with fear as I heard the stranger's voice. I immediately took a peek and my widened eyes couldn't believe what I just saw.
A guy was holding Faye on her waist. He started getting closer and sharp fangs started to appear in his mouth, about to bite my friend on her neck.
"STOP!"
Before I knew it, I found myself shouting and making my death closer than before.
It felt like my soul left me when I saw the seven guys staring in my direction. I was filled with fear, panic, and anxiety,
But there was a tinge of pain inside me.
My eyebrows twitched as the feeling of betrayal slowly pestered in my chest.
There were six of them but I found myself staring at a certain person.
"Storm."
