1 It begins today

Hands cold but with a strong resolve, Feng Lien kneeled in front of the Yang patriarch.

"You have guts, girl. To claim to be my blood and slander the granddaughter sleeping under this roof." Yang Guang exclaimed in amusement. This young girl who was supposedly the adoptive sister of his long lost but recently found granddaughter is claiming the title for herself. He would normally not entertain these kinds of claims- being the Patriarch of one of biggest families in their city, it would not be called a day without someone claiming to be a faraway relative. But there is something about this girl; her audacity that seems oddly familiar but he cannot place where or to whom has he seen it before. In addition, he's beginning to doubt that granddaughter, Feng feng, of his having spent almost a year together, he found that she does not resemble nor take after his son or daughter in law. Of course, he would not voice this concern in public but he has already took steps to further investigate Feng feng. He was initially overcome with joy in having found a family after having none, ever since he lost his son and his family to the accident 18 years ago. That's why he did not bother checking the paternity test provided to him. Looking at the child before him, it seems that this girl has a better chance of being his kin than the one sleeping within the mansion.

"I would not claim otherwise. I just want to know the truth." Feng Lien stated then she proceeded to cut her hair and placed it in the table separating her from her grandfather. "Please have it tested. If I am wrong, I will disappear on my own. BUT if I'm right then you may be the only family that I have" she stated sadly. She then stood up and after bowing in 90 degrees, left the room and the Patriarch alone.

Feng Lien did not linger in the mansion, she was afraid that her scheming sister and 'mother' will see her and continue with what they initially planned- that is to make her disappear forever. They almost succeeded if not for that person who saved her and provided her more warmth than her so-called family.

She pulled the hoodie closer to her face and walk briskly in the rain. Unbeknown to her, the assassins and hired men stopped looking for her a long time ago because a certain person bought a burned corpse and have it posed as her. Making those people who's out for her blood, believe that she died in the explosion. It not only stopped those people from coming after her but also exposed who the mastermind was.

After a few minutes, the slight downpour of rain turned into a heavy rain making it impossible to walk without an umbrella. Feng Lien has no choice but to stop at the convenience store near her current place and wait for the rain to stop. Having not been out for a month, she's uneasy with her environment. There are only a couple of high school students inside but she can't help but be wary. What if these are hired guns posing as high school students? Feng Lien grew even colder, what if the cashier is also a hired spy? Will they make a move here or would they report her? Two of the highschool boys continues to look at her, making her even more uneasy. She's now being pulled in by her dark thoughts, it seems that she's still traumatized by what happened before. She decided to brave the storm rather than wait and get a panic attack. As she was about to walk, a man grabbed her arm and pulled her quickly. All alarm bells in Feng Lien's mind are ringing and she's ready to swing her arm to hit the person when she saw the familiar face, it's Longwei! Her savior and current roommate.

She couldn't be more grateful for Longwei's timely arrival, "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be at work?" Feng Lien asked.

"My meeting got cancelled and I came looking for you as soon as it started raining, you forgot your umbrella at home" Longwei answered.

Feng Lien beemed, this person obviously did not attend his meeting but decided to meet her as he knows, it'll be her first time going outside. How can she be so lucky as to meet Longwei in her darkest moments. She vowed to protect this person as well once she's safe from her adoptive sister.

Longwei was momentarily blinded, she smiled without warning! How was he supposed to calm his heart now? However, it seems that he's not the only one smitten as he also saw two high school boys stealing glances at his puppy. Longwei shook his head, really this girl's charm knows no age. He pulled Feng Lien closer and walked briskly, wanting to go home faster as he don't want to share her smile to other people. No one deserves her smile other than me, Longwei thought on their way home.
