1 The World, forevermore.

< Log - Year 90,510 - January 19th >

" It has been a long time since I have started another log book, as of course I managed to hit a road block, though I have prevailed with my studies and computers.

I have no idea how my mind has remained stable while retaining all of my knowledge, but certainly it must be a blessing. With this, i might be able to bring back humanity... and, maybe this time we will end up alright.

That's still a pipedream. I don't have any samples of a male human or a human ' egg ' cell, and even then... I would need around 19 female samples and 20 male samples to prevent incest... that would be a killing blow to the trial of life.

I... could brave for the surface.

It has been centuries since that though crossed my mind, but I need samples, any kind. Even there is a creature even CLOSE to a primate I could lead their evolution directly towards the path of Human genome... but, would they still be Human?

That question plagues me, yes ' Humans ' would live on but... I don't know what to think of it. I'll have to continue pondering this later.

But... I'll have to eventually reclaim the land, humans will need a suitable home after all. I'll have to send reconnaissance drones to test the surface for stability or any potential dangers, despite living for this long I might as well be held up by glass and tape... I am the only known survivor of Humanity, I must be cautious as not to throw away our last chance. "

< Log - Year 90,510 - January 20th >

" Drones have sent back Data. It's a miracle, Gaia has remained. The Earth has healed, trees and grass have taken root and have been for many years-! Beasts roam the plains again, and no traces of Armageddon anywhere within Scan range-!

The atmosphere has recovered as well-! The water is pure, the soil is bountiful, and more importantly... there doesn't seem to be any form of threat remains... I might be able to head out now even, but I will not.

My first goal will to be to collect samples of various fungus and plant life, then I should plan to capture and dissect some of the local animals for study... then MAYBE I'll make my way to the surface.

I will spend a week preparing the resources for everything... I have a limited amount of Metal, I think I'll have to suffice with just two for now, but I'll also have to have a Drone capable of clearing the path to the surface... my bunker is nearly 3,400 feet from the surface, and there is a lot of stone between then and there... it will take some effort, but I will no doubt claim victory. "

< End Log >

Dr. Umbra, more commonly refered to as Doctor Lua va Umbra or Lua for short, has spent her time wisely since humanity ended. To her, she was tasked by the world to bring a new beginning for humanity.

She has all the time in the world to act after all, her body no longer ages and her mind is un-faltering in immortality, to Lua it's like she ascended to divinity.

It doesn't matter to her how she became like this, either through her drugs and genetic enhancements or maybe through her bio-technology, she was given an opportunity.

With humanity gone, she could reforge civilization in her own image ruled by an iron fist. That was her goal, but to accomplish it... she deemed nearly impossible. Lua has sent many drones within the first centuries, the Human Genome has been extinct worldwide as far as she could tell... no signs of humanity lay anywhere, and so... she gave up. Instead devoted to studies of biology, medicine, theology, and anything she had her hands on.

Everyday she walked through her cramped walls of alloy metal, bringing books and food back and forth between her living quarters and storage space. She had nothing else to do, after all her drones could easily supply her daily needs for her studies amd whatever the facility needs to function.

This time she was reading a new type of book, she had grown bored of glossaries and surgery instructions, this time she had picked a book labeled ' The Magical World of Earth ', some sort of fantasy novel.

She had grown quite distasted of fantasy, she believed it to be useless. Why, after all, would someone want to imagine a world full of monsters and demons? Isn't that the opposite of what humanity needs?

But, alas, she had rapidly became more interested in reading something like that, what would it be like in a world of Swords and Sorcery? She immediately began making connections to metaphors within, but still she couldn't understand the appeal.

' With one final slice with the mighty holy sword, the hero sliced off the foul demon's head. Immediately changes were noticed, the burden upon his shoulders lifted... he had succeeded in fulfilling his destiny to rid the world of evil. '

' What a load of junk. ' Lua thought, her black dyed eyes hurriedly consuming the vast amount of words before her. ' but... it's was an alright read. '

She put down her book to the side of her large grey bed, it contrasted well with the black walls and floor that mimicked Lua's own appearance. Leaving her black nightgown on the bed, she changed into more formal clothing to use while she made check ups on her facility.

She wore a pair of navy blue jeans, a relic of her former life, and a black button up shirt endowed with a red emblem just underneath her right collarbone. She tied her black hair into a messy ponytail and finally got out her red tablet.

First things first, power. The facility ran on many various forms of sustainable energy. She grew her own Biofuel with her vast underground farms of fungus and lichen, but that was not it, she also used hydrothermal power gathered from the heat of the earths core along with a touch of nuclear power. According to her tablet, everything was running fine, no need for further action... but, she took the extra step to manually check. Nothing wrong.

Second, food. Her farms of fungus and lichen was primarily for biofuel, but it also made up a large portion of her diet. It was a good source of protein and other nutrients, and it seemed to be functioning perfectly fine... though, she did tire of it sometimes. Luckily she didn't need to eat often, she had replaced many parts of her body with mechanical parts after all... around 60% of her body was mechanized... including her blood, so her survival depended more on electricity than food.

Lua then checked her third most important subject, her mechanical drones. She had not made them recently, they were relics from before Armageddon, after all she lacked the metal and other components needed to make more of the same caliber... and she held off on mining operations for now.

The mechanical drones were operating fine, she had around 6 of them.

2 were responsible for operating power and fuel for the facility.

2 were responsible for cleaning the facility and caring for Lua.

1 was responsible for operating satellites and other monitors to track for signs of civilization where they could.

1 was responsible for managing the security of the base itself, using cameras and motion detectors to potentially spot life outside or inside the base.

They were each programmed to do their duties with efficiency and pride, though they seemed nearly sentient that was likely an outcropping of their high quality programming... Lua herself made these humanoid drones, it was during the peak of her career... just before Armageddon. They were repurposed from their intended uses, like surgery and warfare use, and instead used to care for Lua... who was alone. In her bunker. For 88,000 years.

Repairs were often, luckily for Lua it was frankly easy, the machines were simple... at least to her, and moreover she could frankly do it at her leisure. She had hours and hours of time to spend doing whatever she desired, usually that was studying or monitoring Earth.

Recently, she had sent small drones tasked with excavation of the bunker towards the surface. The material will mostly be silt and loose stones, likely igneous considering the what happened during Armageddon. That means a chance of Metal, and with metal and a little bit of creativity... more Alloy could be created, more drones could be made, and then progress will be made faster.

It is around 8 miles of stone that needs to be carved through, not much considering the overall size of the world or the bunker, the estimated passageway would be as large as about 20 meters in each direction... so, mining props might be needed to hold up the ceiling... if lucky though, that might not be needed at all.

Lua is clueless about the outside world, satellites have been severely damaged over the many years and repairs are impossible, the drones are engaged in constant work, and Lua is cautious about the outside world... to her, anything that could put her to risk would be like putting humanity to risk.

Curiosity has gotten the better of her though, as she currently paces around her labyrinth theorizing all the outcomes and needed preparations for surface exploration... maybe weapons? What could she use? Either way, she has already set plans into action. Small mining drones have already began excavating the rocky pathway to the surface.

It won't be long until the new world is revealed, and that scares Lua, she has no idea what could await her.

Beasts roam the Earth, some larger than life and not abiding the laws of biology... scaly beasts that breathe fire, green skinned humanoids with fangs and sharp rudimentary weapons, wolves larger than ever recorded in human history, and maybe... just maybe... something worse waiting for her.

Though there is not just evil to be awaiting her, the surface hasn't been kind to living creatures... but that certainly doesn't prevent social interaction between new species, some human like creatures inhabit many forms of environments that would normally be hard.

Some of these species inhabit the forests, using rudimentary bows and staves carved from living wood... Some of these species inhabit the mountains and caves, forging blades of Metal and forging homes straight out of stone... Some of these species inhabit the skies themselves, gliding far above the perils of the world with bestial wings.

Lua had no knowledge of this though.
