The main problem with the Protectorate was that government-sponsored superheroes were both celebrities and police officers with all the good and bad that come with that.
The good is that they can use their platform to raise money and awareness for various issues, they have a sense of duty, and there is accountability. The superheroes can't hide behind a mask like vigilantes or independent heroes.
The bad is that they must manage their popularity like a celebrity, and this leads to the PRT and Protectorate sometimes covering up mistakes. There are also those that just see it as being a celebrity more than an officer of the law. This can lead to those that will abandon their comrades or freeze up at critical times, leaving those around them hanging.
They also have a problem with corruption and leaving certain groups alone as it's not worth the fallout, physical or political. A great example of this is the ABB, the heroes leave them to fester like an infection and spread their poison across the city. They don't say it but it's implied that they think it's not worth the potential cost in hero lives. They don't want to risk upsetting the balance in the city.
Don't even get me started on the Wards programs aka their child solider program. They "help" young adults learn to utilize their powers. They in actuality scare children into enlisting in a pseudo-military organization.
The leader of the Protectorate is Commander Power, real name Steve Stronghold, with the main power of super strength, super durability, and flight. His power focuses on the super strength and durability aspect of the set.
His deputy and wife is Jetstream, real name Josie Stronghold, has the same powerset as her husband. However, her power focuses on the flight aspect.
The other members of the group are Glory Woman, Baron Bone, Prophetess, Frozone, and Mrs. Incredible.
Glory Woman, aka Diana Dallon aka my crush's stepmother, has a personal forcefield that grants her super strength, durability, and flight. She can also shoot lasers from her hands.
Baron Bone, aka Lewis Dallon aka my crush's father, has the ability to create and manipulate bone.
Prophetess, real name Elizabeth Peace, is a powerful precog with the ability of psychic visions.
Frozone, real name Lucius Best, has the ability to create and manipulate ice.
His wife Mrs. Incredible, real name Helen Parr-Best, has an ability that grants her a mild superhuman physique and elasticity/stretching powers.
Their child soldiers are led by Glory Woman's daughter from a previous marriage Glory Girl aka Victoria Dallon aka my crush's stepsister. She takes after her mother in both appearance and power. The only difference in their powersets is that her power exchanges shooting lasers for a stronger force field.
Her deputy and the Protectorate's resident healer is Panacea aka Amelia Dallon aka my crush. She takes after her father. Her power is the ability to manipulate biology which she uses to heal others and create the protectorate's costumes.
The other members are mainly made up of the rest of the Protectorate's children. Most of them being only around the age of seventeen
Power Boy, real name Will Stronghold, was Commander Power and Jetstream's son. He gained his parents ability, but it was still unclear if he got a copy of one, the best components of both, or the worst parts.
Fire Boy and Dreamer, real names Warren and Patricia Peace, were the children of Prophetess and different fathers. Fire Boy, whose father is unknown, has the ability to create and manipulate fire. While Dreamer, whose father is her current husband, has the same ability as her mother. At least the thirteen-year-old Dreamer is a non-combat member. Warren was also the boyfriend of Victoria, apparently, she had a thing for "bad" boys.
The last of the mini-Protectorate was the daughter of Frozone and Mrs. Incredible, Ms. Incredible aka Susan Best. Her ability was elasticity and body hardening. She was also the youngest combat member at fifteen.
The last two members of the Brockton Bay Wards were Plant Girl and Tech Girl.
Plant Girl, real name Layla Williams, had the ability to manipulate and empower the plants in her surroundings.
Tech Girl, real name Gwen Grayson, had the ability to control technology psychically and was a gadget tinker. She was also the girlfriend of Will.
Now I was lucky that all the members of the local branches were good and solid heroes. So there would not be too many threats or intimidation, but they would seriously impede my life and freedom in the name of protecting me.
