1 Prologue

Beyond the Veil: A Struggle for Sovereignty

The sound of clashing swords and the cries of the dying echoed through the battlefield as Captain Reinhardt fought for his kingdom. He had always believed in the righteousness of his cause, but as he looked around at the destruction and death surrounding him, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was no true right or wrong in this war. It was simply a struggle for power between two empires.

"Hold steady, men! Reinforcements will arrive soon!" Reinhardt shouted, trying to rally his troops. But his voice was drowned out by the deafening roar of the enemy's cannons, and he saw his men falling around him, one by one. He could feel the blood and sweat on his face, his armor heavy with the weight of the dead. He fought on, his sword arm growing weary, his heart heavy with the knowledge that this was the end.

As he fought, he couldn't help but think of Liliana, the love of his life and a powerful magician in her own right. She had always been his rock, his reason for fighting. But now, as the battle reached its climax, Reinhardt's wounds became too much for him to bear. He stumbled away from the fight, determined not to die on this field of blood and fire. He collapsed on a small, untouched meadow, and as he lay there, the weight of his failures and regrets pressed down on him.

"Liliana," he whispered, as he lay dying. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't protect you. I'm sorry I couldn't protect our kingdom."

But then he saw her, Liliana, lying beside him, her wounds just as severe as his own. She was wearing the robe of the Eleanor Empire, adorned with the symbol of an eagle. He couldn't understand why she didn't tell him about it, why she didn't trust him.

"Liliana, what have you done?" Reinhardt asked, with tears in his eyes.

"I had to, for my sister," Liliana replied, her voice trembling with pain and regret. "I'm sorry, Reinhardt. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you. I'm sorry I couldn't trust you."

As Reinhardt closed his eyes for the last time, he felt a sense of peace wash over him. He was ready to die, ready to be reunited with Liliana in the next life. But death was not the end. He woke up in a dark void, disoriented and confused. He soon realized he had been reincarnated into a new body, a newborn baby in the arms of his new parents, former adventurers as he could tell by their clothing, light armor, and adventurer's tags.

Reinhardt understood that he had been given a second chance, a chance to live and to achieve happiness in this new world, but he didn't know where or when he was. He decided to make the most of his new life, to learn about magic, to enjoy it to the fullest with his new family and maybe even find someone to love, someone who will trust him till the end, not like Liliana did. He couldn't change the past, but he could make the most of his new life, to be the best version of himself. He vowed to become a powerful wizard, to protect those he loved, and to bring justice to this new world, to avenge the death of his kingdom and the betrayal of his love, Liliana. He will make sure that this time, he will protect and trust the ones he loves until the end, no matter what.
