1 Monster

In the City of Anima, there were several Academy's that were built to train, empower and create warriors and soldiers known as Adept's. These Adepts all strived to become a part of the high ranked public figures created by the nobles known as an Eidos. Eidos were powerful Adepts who would compete against each other for supremacy, power, fame and glory.

Battles were held often to decide on the rankings and honor of the Academies. So the Academies did their best to recruit, train and equip new students that would bring glory to them. Competition was fierce and everyone pushed themselves to rise to the top.

In a particularly small Academy, a test was taking place. A man in a black suited armor was standing on a large field watching the test happening before him. He wore glasses and had a slightly chubby face and build and was rather handsome, he had a certain charm that drew you in. He personally was keeping an eye on one student in particular. He hand picked him and was curious to see how he would do. He smirked as he watched on.

A group of students were in the midst of a training battle. The sounds of weapons clashing could be heard throughout the arena. Magic chants could be heard as different elements flew back and forth across the field. The trainees fought viciously and did all they could to gain the upper hand.

There were forty young warriors split in two teams. Each team made up of Magic-Channellers, Spirit Callers and Battle Mages. Each school of battle had its advantages and disadvantages. Some chose to pursue just one, while others aimed to be proficient in multiple.

And here in this training battle, each style was on full display. The Magic-Channellers chanted chains of words that accumulated together and would exhibit powerful displays of magic. Energies and different elements flew back and forth across the arena inflicting damage on its enemies.

The Spirit Callers tapped into the powers around, summoning elemental sprites or the spirits of Soul Beasts to come and aide them in battle. Calling on ancient powers to strike their enemies and empower allies. Their power could be explosive or soothing depending on how it was used.

The Battle Mages were at the forefront of the battle. Their magic manifesting on and around them, they charged into battle, weapons in hand, using their bodies and physical abilities along with their magic empowerment to attack and strike their enemies.

On all sides, the battles were fierce and chaotic.

In the midst was a young man. He stood on the battlefield as he surveyed the battle. He had black hair that was styled to stand up. Even though you couldn't fully see his face you could tell that there was a handsome face under his face mask, he exuded charisma. He wore dark goggles preventing anyone from seeing his eyes, but you could see still feel his penetrating gaze as he analyzed everything around him. He had on a black jacket with a hood; on his arms were detailed patterns of chains. He also had a silver crest branded on his hand, the mark of an underground Magic-Channeller. And yet the entire battle, he hadn't chanted a spell or even released a single bit of magic. Instead he strategically ordered the trainees around him. Without lifting a finger, he was leading his team towards a clean victory.

On the other side of the field, Battle Mages were making their way through the enemy flanks, following the young man's directions. They easily manoeuvred their way towards the Magic-Channellers who were now left unguarded.

The opposing team seeing the disadvantage panicked. Understanding that this young man was the turning point, they changed tactics and savagely charged towards him. They all pushed forward like a group of barbarians. The Magic-Channellers unleashed a unit attack to fend off the Battle Mages. The Spirit Callers sent out their spirits to force open a path and created a gap for the Battle Mages to charge and for the Magic-Channellers to follow through.

Seeing what they were planning to do, the students were about to change tactics and stand in to protect the young man, but instead he shouted at them.

"Stick to the plan. Let them come, all of you retreat."

His team hesitated before obeying the order and all fled. The young mans strategic mind was well known in the academy, but that was all he was known for. No one had properly seen him participate in battle before. But they trusted his intellect and followed orders.

He smiled as they all neared him. He knew that this wasn't a good idea as he wasn't entirely sure that he could hold back, this was only training, they weren't enemies. But this was also a test. He was told about the importance of this test and the direction this path would lead him down. And he was going to pass it. Although he was a great strategist, he wanted to be more than just someone that was smart. He had a dream. And he would fight for it.

No one was going to get in his way.

"I'll have to apologize in advance." He said to the oncoming enemies as he leaped forward, completely bypassing the first few warriors, he manoeuvred through the enemy team before finally coming to stop. He stood in the middle of the enemy team. With the Magic-Channeller's on one side and the Battle-Masters that he just flew past on the other side, and the Spirit Callers directly in front of him. He was now perfectly placed in the centre of his opponents, caught between the three sides, surrounded. The two sides saw him in the centre and were about to charge him. But before they could, an aura began to rise up from within him.

"Break."

A large explosion occurred in the training area. The trainees gathered for the battle training were all standing there in shock, completely frightened and unable to comprehend what just happened.

As the smoke cleared, a large crater was lying where there was originally flat ground. Injured students were scattered across the place. In the centre of the crater was a cyclone of lightning. Electricity surged and streamed around in a circle, power emanating off it scaring all the people still conscious to see what was happening.

The young man stood in the middle of the lightning seemingly uncomfortable. The lightning danced around him, crackling and emitting a powerful force. The figure struggled to lift his hands which were tightly clenched. He shook as he raised his hands, like he was fighting against some powerful energy within him. He raised his head with a roar as he opened his hands. The lightning all around rushed towards his palms and disappeared as it was absorbed into him. The lightning disappeared in an instant.

"I really do need to learn to control it more. Or at the very least hold back a little. I can't just go around destroying everything, every time." The young man laughed at himself while scratching his head in embarrassment as he observed the wreckage around him.

Just like that he had completely defeated the opposing team. The trainees that were closest to him were completely unconscious. Those that were on the outskirts of the crater, were still awake but unable to move, in complete disbelief at the scene before them. Even the trainees on his own team were stunned silence. Everyone was shook.

The young man looked around and caught eyes with the man in the black armor. The man smiled and gave him a small gesture before walking away. The young man walked over to one of the opposing team's member's who was still conscious, the trainee nervously panicking as he watched the young man approach him.

"I think it's our win. Unless you wish to continue."

The terrified trainee shook his head, afraid to continue. The young man smiled and walked away from the destruction he had caused like it wasn't anything, following after the man in black. The trainee just stared at the figure walking away, fear in his eyes. Everything started going blurry as he continued to stare at the young boy. He stammered and stuttered as he started to fall unconscious as well.

"M…Mo….Mon…ster.."
