14 Nothing Is out of Reach

When he woke up, he was frozen. Probably the consequence of falling asleep soaked. As he got up to take a shower, he realized that it was already 10 am passed. When he saw the time, he jumped out of his bed.

"School!", he thought.

Hye Rin didn't wake him up? He rushed into the bathroom to brush his teeth and put his top on while rushing into the kitchen. Then he saw So Won there eating peacefully.

"Good morning. You're very energetic."

"Huh?" So Won was too calm. "What about school?"

So Won laughed.

"Don't worry, I've already called to announce your absence. I thought you might need a little rest after last night's events."

He sighed. At least he could have warned him. He had panicked unnecessarily.

After breakfast, he showered and returned to his room before entered the adjacent room and sitting in front of his Genos. He had nothing to do, so he thought writing a song would be a good idea.

After thinking to yesterday So Won's words, Jae Hyun closed his eyes to try to imbue his feelings. He had a lot to say to his sister, but he didn't know how to put his thoughts in order. He scribbled words and sentences on paper before tearing it apart and takes another sheet. He was never sure of him. Jae Hyun repeated the process many times before reaching a satisfactory result. He wanted something as perfect as possible. Jae Hyun wanted to reach his sister; even if he knows it was impossible she could hear it. This simple thought made him sad.

After ending to write, he read the lyrics. Satisfied, he activated the guitar mode of his Genos. He thought that these lyrics would have a better effect on the guitar. After several attempts and recording, he managed to finish composing his song.

He then turned on his computer before logging into his account. He hadn't gone back on since he posted his video and to his surprise, he realized that many people were talking about it. It was already in the top 100 songs from new singers of the year. But he wasn't really in the mood to celebrate.

He went to get his mask and placed it gently on his face before start recording and went to stand up in front of his microphone. It was only the intro, but he could already feel his feelings coming up inside him. He hoped to be able to finish the song without breaking down in the middle.

He closed his eyes and put his hands on his piano before singing. His voice was full of nostalgia.

"This is where the chapter ends

A new one now begins

Time has come for letting go

The hardest part is when you know

All of these years, when we were here

Are ending, but I'll always remember"

He smiled nostalgically while he was singing.

"We have had the time of our lives

Now the page is turned

The stories we will write

We have had the time of our lives

And I will not forget

The faces left behind

It's hard to walk away

From the best of days

But if it has to end

I'm glad you have been my sister

In the time of our lives"

Despite his mask, we could feel his emotions.

"Where the water meets the land

There is shifting in the sand

Like the tide that ebbs and flows

Memories will come and go

All of these years

When we were here

Are ending

But I'll always remember"

"We have had the time of our lives

Now the page is turned

The stories we will write

We have had the time of our lives

And I will not forget

The faces left behind

It's hard to walk away

From the best of days

But if it has to end

I'm glad you have been my sister

In the time of our lives"

His emotions exploded.

"We say goodbye

We hold on tight

To these memories

That never die

We say goodbye

We hold on tight

To these memories

That never die

We have had the time of our lives

Now the page is turned

The stories we will write

We have had the time of our lives

And I will not forget

The faces left behind

It's hard to walk away

From the best of days

But if it has to end

I'm glad you have been my sister

In the time of our lives

I'm glad you have been my sister

In the time of our lives" (1)

After completing the recording, Jae Hyun closed his eyes to ensure that his emotions don't take over. He had been in trance for a good part of the song and didn't know if he could deliver the message as he wanted. He listened to the song again before editing and validating it. He didn't know if his song would touch his sister because of the distance between them, but deep inside he hoped he could reach her.

Jae Hyun posted the song and less than 10 minutes later, several people had commented happily to have a second song so quickly. He scrolled through the comments and saw that many had been touched by the lyrics. Also, he didn't pay attention when he logged in, but he had several male fans. Probably because to his first song that could touch people of any gender.

Since Jae Hyun had the day ahead of him, he thought about doing a job search. He didn't want to live off So Won forever, and he was used to being busy. Not having a job, even a part-time one, made him uncomfortable. Ideally, he wanted to do a job related to music, but of course, it wasn't easy to find because of the censorship it represented. He wrote job offers that looked interesting and close his computer before leaving his room to go to these places.

On his way out, he was surprised by So Won.

"Are you still looking for a part-time job?" So Won looked at him restfully.

Jae Hyun was confused by the question. Did he read his mind? How could he always know what he was thinking about? He nodded.

"Great! In fact, a friend contacted me and said they were looking for a piano teacher. You can play, can't you?"

What a timing! It was even better than the offers he had found. Jae Hyun answered in the affirmative.

"It would involve giving piano lessons to orphans at the Daisy Orphanage twice a week. You can decide for yourself when you want to go. The salary isn't the best, but it's always better than nothing."

The salary wasn't the most important even if eventually, he would need a good job to pay his own part and find a new place. If he could have a job related to music, he wasn't going to be difficult.

So Won gave him the address and suggested that he go visit them today to get more information. Since it was already his intention to go out, he didn't mind. So Won tells him good luck and goodbye. He was supposed to go to work. His schedule started at 3 pm today, and he would come home when everyone would be in bed. Before he left, he had thanked him both for the job and for what he had done the night before. He just smiles at him before leaving.

After several detours, he had arrived in a street in the lower districts. In front of him was a 20-story building. He looked at the coordinates again and confirmed that he was in the right place. He approached the door and rang the bell. A woman in her fifties opened it for him.

"Hello. What can I do for you?", said a beautiful young woman with a mellow voice.

She had medium-length red hair and looked like she was in her twenties. She gave off an air of serenity.

"I heard you were looking for a piano teacher, so I came for the job offer.", answered Jae Hyun.

The woman smiled at him before letting him in. Jae Hyun passed through a large room where several children were playing. Some curious had come to him to find out who he was before they were dismissed by the woman. They finally entered an office, and she offered to sit in front of her desk before closing the door.

"I appreciate your interest in the offer. All you have to do is coming 2-3 days a week to offer piano lessons to the children. As you can see, we are in a poor neighborhood. The children don't have the chance to do activities that other children of their age can do, so we wanted to offer them something unique."

She explained that he could choose his schedule every week and that his salary would be $80 an hour. There were two pianos in the main hall that could be used and the way his lessons would be conducted was his business. Satisfied with the conditions, he signed a 3-month contract to start. Jae Hyun proposed to start this week to the great delight of the young lady. He was also ready to give a class immediately.

The woman was enthusiastic and showed him the way to the room where the pianos were located.

He sat down in front of one of the pianos and started playing a piece. It was Liszt's Campanella'(2), a piece of his world. The children nearby stopped playing and looked in his direction. Once the song was finished, the children began to applaud. They approached him excitedly.

"Wow! You play too well!"

"A pro?!"

Now that Jae Hyun had got the children's attention, he offered them to sit down and introduced himself as their piano teacher. He used the system of his wristband to draw piano keys and indicate the solfeggio before sending it to each child. He then let them try notes on the piano and showed them how to place their fingers.

Thus, much of the afternoon had passed, and the lesson had ended. Jae Hyun told the children that he would come back Saturday to their great delight, but reminded them to try to learn the piano notes. The lady walked him to the door and thanked him warmly.
