Ethan

"What?" Elizabeth grabbed the pillow again and moved to the corner of the room. She covered her face.

Ethan approaches her and kneels in front of her, "Hey, it stopped calm down". Elizabeth looks up at him, her eyes on the brink of tears.

"Do you remember anything - at all?"

She shakes her head. "All I know is that I woke up surrounded by sleeping sailors and the captain seemed to be drunk."

Her blue eyes tear up and she starts to sob. Ethan puts his arms around her in an attempt to comfort her. "I'll help you remember what happened last night. I'll get you home."

She looks up at him and squeaks, "Thank You."

"How's your head? You were bleeding quite a bit."

"I'm fine, but what about that scar on your nose? How'd you get it?" She asks.

Ethan stands up and grabs a stool, leans on it. A heavy silence fills the room as he stares at the floor.

*Sigh* "I've been a sailor for a while now, and things don't always go smoothly. Sirens and other wicked creatures love messing with us. On one trip through Europe, we'd just stopped at Libya and we were on our way to Greece. So straight north. We had to pass the Mediterranean and that place is - it's cruel. Anyway, a pod of red sirens decided to attack us."

"Red sirens? I thought there was only one general species."

"Red sirens are pure brutality and have sharp teeth and nails, and are very powerful swimmers. We call them Reds. On the other hand Cyan sirens, or Cyans, are the only good species. They aren't as powerful swimmers but they heal quickly and often try to help sailors with their magic. Unfortunately, they're rare because of reds and greens. The reds aren't exactly pretty but the Cyans are the most beautiful creatures ever. Both males and females."

Ethan pauses, staring at random objects in the room. "The Greens are the most dangerous. They're pretty but, their voices attract men to the water just to slaughter them. That night, a pod of Reds attacked the ship. A few Greens made the whole situation worse. T-the Reds got one of my best friend as soon as he touched the water. Some sirens made it on board and 3 came at me.The rest of 'em went for the others. Fourteen men survived the attack. Half of the survivors died from their injuries, only a lucky 7 of the 26 men on the ship made it to England. Most of us still wounded."

"I had no idea, I'm so sorry." She says.

Ethan frowns. He passes a hand through his incredible dark brown hair, "Great now I darkened the mood. Let's go to the cafeteria and get you something to eat." he offers, "Stick by me; you'll be fine."

Elizabeth nods, then stands up and follows him out the door.

~~~
Who's waiting outside? None other than Carter - of course. "Aha! She's awake. Why don't you come with me dearie?"
She looks up at Ethan with confused, pleading eyes. He shakes his head, "Elizabeth don't."
She nods and turns to Carter. "Sorry sir, I hardly know you and Ethan has shown no intention of hurting me." She turns back to Ethan, nudging him to lead the way to the cafeteria.
"Do you really know him any better though?"
Elizabeth pauses - her blue eyes cold and dark. Ethan doesn't say anything for his own safety as she shoots Carter a look. Ethan notices a small flash of blue in front of Carter. He seemed to be startled for his eyes went wide, grunted, and walked away - muttering to himself.
"'Atta girl," Ethan whispers to her, "but watch the eyes."
Elizabeth chuckles and responds, "Shut up."
"Haha but seriously that's not normal. You shouldn't go around flashing your eyes at anyone pisses you off."
Soon enough they reach the cafeteria. Ethan's best friend, Alexander, comes up to them yelling, " Ayy man! Where'd you get the girl?"
Ethan shushes him. "I found her running around on deck this morning. Got in a mess with Petra and Carter."
"Damn."
"Um Excuse me," Elizabeth cuts in, "but we've been standing here for a while now. I'm starving can we get some food."
Alex chuckles as Ethan says, "Let's go."
The food was never the best but everyone had their rations and that was enough. The guys hoped to find someone along the trip but Alex was much more enthusiastic than Ethan about that. Ethan wanted to see the world and live life by the water before being grounded by a girlfriend or wife. He didn't say that though.
"So Eli, you standing in for Benny? He ditched the trip not two days ago."
"Sure! I guess I will, but I'll have to pull my weight around here. And I'm sure Ethan will teach me." She shoots his a look that he can't refuse. Caught by surprise, he chokes on a bite of his sandwich. Sheer instinct tells him it would be safe to say no.
"Uhh, yeah. Sure," he manages.
"Great! Then it's settled!" Alex says. Then he takes a hearty bite of his 'samich' as he calls it. "Wow! This is a great samich! Compliments to the chef," he announces. They laugh and eat in piece.
