17 Spirit Beast

Chapter 17

When Kaal and Khajoor came out of their small, thatched hut, they realized that something was off. The heavy stench of blood was gone. There wasn't even a bit of stench left in the air. According to what they knew, the stench of blood doesn't vanish like that. It becomes even more disgusting as the time passes.

They looked at each other and then cautiously made their way towards that pit again where they saw two large boars yesterday night. When they looked inside the pit, their eyes widened and their jaws dropped to the ground. What they saw inside the pit was…nothing. There was literally nothing inside the pit. No bodies of the large boars, and not even a trace of the blood. If both of them hadn't seen the dead bodies of the two large boars and the blood in the pit with their own eyes, then they definitely would think that the pit was empty to begin with.

Kaal looked at Khajoor with a trace of fear in his eyes. Khajoor was constantly looking inside the pit as if trying to find just a single trace of blood in there. But after not being able to find even a single thing inside the pit, he lifted his head and looked at Kaal. There was confusion, panic and fear in his eyes. He wanted to say something but nothing came out. Kaal hugged his shoulder and started walking towards the village.

Both Kaal and Khajoor thought of two possibilities at the same time. First possibility was that last night someone came there and found the two large, dead boars and somehow was able to take them out of the pit and took their bodies with himself. As for blood, that was absorbed by the ground. This deduction was pretty weird and nonsensical because the two boars weighed 200-250 kg each and it definitely would have been impossible for a normal human to take them out of that pit. And the blood, even if it was absorbed by the ground, that would still leave some traces on the ground but the ground was so clean as if there was nothing there to begin with. And the fact that made them deny this possibility straight out was that near the pit, they saw many large and heavy foot prints of a beast. This led them to think of the second possibility.

For the second possibility, they both wanted to deny it, but that was the only thing they could think of which was capable of doing all that. The thing they thought of was… a Spirit beast. Spirit beast, as the name suggest are the beasts that have spirit or to say they are more spiritual and intelligent than the normal wild beasts.

They difference between a normal wild beast and a Spirit beast is not only in intelligence but also in strength. Normally, a fully matured wild beast is stronger that a normal human and has a strength of about the same as 1st level of Body Strengthening Realm, but the strength of an infant Spirit beast far surpasses the strength of 1st level of Body Strengthening Realm. It closes to 3rd level of Body Strengthening Realm and even in that level it is stronger than an average 3rd level cultivator. This is the massive difference between the two. And 3rd level of the Body Strengthening Realm was not their limit because…they could cultivate too.

As for how Kaal and Khajoor deduct that it was a Spirit beast was because apart from it,, who else could lift two large boars who weighed about 200-250 kg each. A normal wild beast definitely couldn't accomplish this feat. The only thing that was capable of that is Spirit beast.

Kaal and Khajoor had many dangerous encounters with wild beasts over the past few years because of the location of their house (According to what Khajoor had told Kaal). Most of the time they had somehow made it out alive and sometimes they had been seriously hurt. But never in their entire life had they ever come this close to a danger such as Spirit beast.

The stories about how ferocious and savage the Spirit Beasts are were only told to children in the village as a folk lore. They said that if they don't sleep early, a Spirit beast would come and take them away. But this time, if there really was a Spirit beast that had come there yesterday night, then the whole village was doomed to be destroyed.

They didn't want that possibility to come true so they pushed that thought at the back of their head and continued walking towards the village. Unknowingly, both of them became vigilant as they walked towards the village.

Both, Kaal and Khajoor, became increasingly worried about the location of their thatched hut as they were walking. Even if it wasn't the Spirit beast that had come last night, but what about those boars? If Kaal hadn't set up trap then their thatched hut would have been destroyed by them. Even worst, those two boars would stay there and when Kaal and Khajoor came home at night, they could have attacked them and killed them. This thought made the two very anxious.

It wasn't that they didn't want to live in the village or the living cost in the village was very high, but they were not allowed to live there. The village was separated into two parts. First part was where the strongest and the wealthiest lived (a little bit wealthier than a peasant). The strongest in the entire village lived in the center of the village who was none other than Josh. Even the head of the village lived a little far from the center. The other 'wealthy' people of the village lived around Josh's mansion and because of the two parts of the village being like two rings, the part where the 'wealthy' lived was also called the inner ring.

The second part was where the peasants lived. They earned money by working on someone's land. They lived in the outer parts of the village. As for two orphans who worked in someone' house to earn money, they were considered even worse than a peasant and according to some 'wealthy' people; they were not qualified to live anywhere near the village. And thus, Kaal and Khajoor had to make their thatched hut outside the periphery of the village which was very dangerous.

When Kaal first heard the reason for them living in that dangerous place he was very infuriated and this was also one of the reason why he made those dangerous traps even knowing that someone from the village could die if they triggered it.
