7 6. Trouble Comes

The ride home should have been enjoyable for Bex. He had just gotten his droid, his parents were proud, and his sister had hardly picked on him today. Relative to every other day today should have been great. Bex was worried though.

'What is I caught a disease or something. What if I feel like this forever. Constantly sweating or feel like I'm going to hurl. And my eyes why does everything look different like I can see the connections between everything. This feeling that I can feel mother and sister behind us and father sitting so close. I can almost smell the worry that something is wrong with me.... is something wrong with me?' Thought Bex.

"Son you have to tell me what's wrong so I know what to do to help." Marc said.

"I'm fine dad don't worry about me. I think it's just from all the excitement from today. Like I'm coming down off an adrenaline rush." Bex responded while trying to convince himself the same thing.

"If you say so boy. If that feeling changes even just a little I want to be the first to know. Can you please promise me that."

"Yes father."

The rest of the ride was quite. Bex's mind ran wild with possibilities as to what was wrong with him.

The word wrong kept ringing in his mind.

Wrong

Wrong

Wrong

Wrong...wrong...something...wrong.

Bex sat up. And looked towards home. 'Wrong..wrong..wrong..wrong. It was like home was calling out to him. No not home. Wrong. Something else. Wrong. What is this feeling. Wrong. I don't understand. Wrong. Please someone tell me what's happening. Wrong.'

Tears started to roll down Bex's face. This feeling was to much for him to bear.

"Son what's the matter?" Marc said.

"Something is wrong." Bex replied

"What is it son."

"Something at home"

"What do you mean?"

"I can feel their fear"

"Who's? Bex you are not making any sense. Feel fear? Explain boy you are scaring me."

"Somethings happening at home I can feel the fear of everyone in the village I don't know how but I can just sense it dad I don't know what it means. I'm scared and they are scared. What's happening to me." Bex said starting to sob.

Just then across the radio a hushed and panicked voice could be heard.

"Anyone.. please help... raiders... come for the water... I've snuck away but they will find me... they always find you.. help... AHHHH.." the woman's voice came across through static.

"Oh no. Not the raiders." Marc said staring ahead.

He pulled the speeder to the side allowing Deb to pull the carrier beside them. The look in her eyes said they had heard what came across the radio as well.

"What do we do?" Deboora asked panicking inside but not showing it as to not frighten the children.

"We have to help. Get in the speeder with me. Kids take the transport and hide behind some rocks we will be back for you soon." Marc said scared out of his mind but knowing they had to do something.

He and his wife hugged both children and took all but the one blasters and headed off towards the village.

"Stop crying you baby everything will be alright. Dad and mom are the best shots in town and will be back to get us soon." Albi said trying to be brave for her little brother.

Time seemed to go by at a crawl for the two children. No word had came across the radio but Bex had stopped crying. He could feel the fear in the people subsiding followed by the feeling of relief. He could feel their emotions mixing with his own.

"Sorry for crying so much. I just couldn't help it. So much fear.." Bex said trailing off.

"It's ok Bex. I know the raiders can be scary. I remember the first time they came when I was your age. I think mom was still pregnant with you. They came in so fast that we didn't know."

"SHHH" Bex said interrupting his sister.

"Hey don't Sh."

"Shut up! Something is coming!" Bex said in a panicked whisper.

He could feel a group of something approaching. And what ever it was they didn't feel friendly.
