We burst through the front doors and out into the car park.

“What the hell just happened?” Olivia asks, with an expression of stark terror. “What are you all doing here –why did Dale have a gun –h...how did you get here so fast –who’s that guy that Kyle came running in with, I-”

“Olivia,” I say, slowly, she hugs herself, “Calm... down. We’ll explain everything. Dale was a bad guy. You didn’t get my message in time, and for God’s sake could you not have answered your phone at all?”

“I turned it off,” she says, frowning, her shoulders falling lazily, “I figured it was a date... and I didn’t want to... I didn’t want to...” She doesn’t finish her sentence. She huffs out a shaky breath. “He had a gun.” Her eyes well up with tears. “And he was trying to... it was going so fast... but I... didn’t want... I didn’t know how to...”
