1 Chapter 1

"Hey, Kitty".

I reached my hand out to my cat friend. I was in my garden, under my favourite tree. "Come on" I stood up and Kitty followed me.

We ran around together, the wind in our hair. Or fur. I span around and fell onto the soft grass.

Kitty looked back at the house. I sat up. My house was small but it was anything I ever wished for. My father and I lived in the countryside, free from any city rush.

I went to a small nearby school. Didn't have many friends though. I lifted Kitty. "Don't worry Kitty, we will always be together. I promise" I hugged her tightly. Her fluffy grey fur brushing up against me.

Time flew by as I noticed the sun began setting. "Come on Kitty" I exclaimed as I ran back home. My loyal cat following me.

I opened the front door and went inside. Kitty in my arms. My father looked at some kind of letter.

I know he was looking for a new job, for a long time. I assumed the letter was about that.

"Hi, Dad". I went up to him. He hugged me. He let go. "Selina, I have the new job" I squealed. "Congratulations Dad" I felt so proud. "In America" he finished. My brain paused. "America? Wait we're moving... away" he nodded.

I kept stroking Kitty. "Oh... I mean, if it's for the better. I understand" I said sadly. I didn't wait for his response I just went back to my room.

I slumped down onto my bed. Kitty by my side. "You know what Kitty, maybe a new big city life won't be that bad." I sat up. Staring helplessly out my window. By now the sun has set. The moon and the stars giving light to the sky.

My pet sat on my lap, comforting me. Tears started forming in my eyes." I can't do this Kitty. I-I'm going to miss this place so much" I said between tears.

The next morning, my mood had drastically changed. Lucky for me, I wouldn't have school next week because I had to pack my things. We were moving in a few weeks. I wasn't hungry so, I went outside in the garden, feeling the cool breeze. Kitty followed me.

I smiled. At least I still had my loyal cat friend. With her, I know everything will turn out ok.

I sat down under my favourite tree. A huge oak tree. I leaned onto the rough bark. I turned my head to the right seeing the small engravings. S+L

Linda was my mother. Years ago we planted this tree together on my birthday. That was the day I met Kitty. But it was also the day my mother perished. She fell ill.

"D-daddy, w-where's mommy?" I cried hugging my father's leg. He stayed silent. I saw people take her away. I tried running after them but my dad stopped me.

I began sobbing for hours on end. Every year, I visit my mother's grave on her birthday.

Kitty brushed softly against my leg. She knew what I was feeling and thinking.

My mother and I used to play here all the time. We collected apples from the orchard together, played tag.

"You can't catch me, I exclaimed playfully" running away quickly. My mom suddenly caught me and spun me around in the air. We both laughed.

We watched the clouds together.

"Look, mommy that looks like a cat" I pointed up to the cloud. She smiled.

Her smiles were so genuine and pure. My dad says I inherit that from her.

"Yes darling, and that one looks like a heart" she pointed to another cloud.

Planting that tree with her was one of my favourite memories.

"There," she said softly. The small looking tree was planted.

She took out a small knife and put it in her and my initials. We then hugged.

I looked at the orchard. Then back at Kitty who was now on my lap.

I smiled.

I decided to go back home. I picked up Kitty. As I entered I saw my Dad packing some of his old things.

As soon as he saw me he ran up to me and hugged me tightly.

"I'm sorry if I made you sad, we can stay if-" I interrupted. "No dad, let's go. Maybe it will be fun" I said. He smiled. "That's my girl" he then went back to packing.

I went to the kitchen to get some brunch. For me and Kitty.

"There you go," I said softly pouring out the cat food for Kitty. She meowed and began eating.

I took out some bread and made a sandwich.

After eating we went back to my room.

"Maybe America won't be that bad Kitty" I sat down on the carpet floor. Kitty played with some string.

Days have passed, I was beginning to like the idea of a new chapter in my life. My dad only wanted me to do one more thing.

Say goodbye to my classmates and teachers.
