1 Fall from the Top

The headlines screamed across every newspaper and media sight. Overnight his world came crashing down around him.

Popular boy band Gray disbands due to Music thief.

Lead Singer Stole Credit for the Music by Gray.

Kris the True Musician.

Miles the Liar.

Miles the Heartbreaker.

Fake love.

Of course his favorite was the article. Lead man comes between true love forces former friend into being his girlfriend. Where it listed how jealous he was that his long time girlfriend Vanessa and his best friend and former bandmate Kris had been in love for years, but Miles had forced himself between them jealous that they would leave him and that his career and fame would be over. That and he wanted the power and wealth that would come after marrying Vanessa who came from a rich affluent family. His heart broke at how cruel the story really was. Vanessa had always chased him. It was her choice to date him and he had thought she had really loved him. But the article said that she was the one giving the information. She should have been an actress with the ease of her lies. There was even a video clip of her denying any feelings but fear and pity for the kind of man who surrounded himself in so many lies just for fame.

And then there was Kris. The man who had been more like a brother since their first day their parents had signed them up for the Music Academy. Both of them had found been placed in the same classes and bonded over all the hours they spent practicing. When the holiday breaks came and Kris didn't have anywhere else to go, Miles had brought him home with him. Afterwards Kris had always came home with him. Which was where Vanessa came in. She was the daughter of his mothers best friend and a few years younger then both him and Kris. Vanessa joined the Music Academy the two years after them. She took Piano but only so that she could chase him. But Miles was reluctant because of her family and wealth and because she was three years younger then them. But the three were close and eventually Kris and Miles formed a band at the Music Academy. Vanessa had wanted to join as well, but her family forbid her. She later used her connections to get the boys a meeting with an entertainment company that took a chance on them.

After six months of training and prepearation they got to realse a debute albumn. The night it went live he celbrated with Vanessa and Kris. There was so much alcohol that he couldn't remember what all had happened. He only knew that the next morning he woke up naked in bed with Vanessa. They had started dating after that and Miles swore he would love her and protect her. And he had. He kept their relationship a secret as her family had asked wanting to save her from the cruel side of his fans. Seeing how crazy paparazzi and how cruel female fans often became he quickly understood the secrecy. But now it looked as though it had all been him trying to control her behind the scenes. To cruel to let the public know about their relationship or scared she might not be able to keep up pretending in front of a crowd. Especially when her true love was so close at hand.

Miles threw the almost empty glass of whiskey against the wall where it shattered. The glass fell like diamonds across the wooden floor of the bedroom. Light glistened like a path into his walk in closet. He fallowed the shining path of glittering bits and his eyes hit the wooden trunk at the back of the closet. Even in his drunken state his mind began to turn back to a few years ago right after they had gotten famous. He could still sneak out for a walk in a park without fans crowding him.

He was still trying to make sense of what was happening with Vanessa. Trying to remember what had actually happened to start their relationship. It had been right around dusk and the shadows beyond the lights on the path were already looming. He had almost finished his walk and was about to turn around when he heard a woman's scream from the wooded area just up ahead. When he burst through the underbrush he couldn't believe his eyes. The scene before him was to graphic and gruesome to believe. There in the center was a girl her clothes torn to shreds that barely covered the darkening landscape of her bodies where bruises rose on the pale skin. Blood streamed across her like tiny streams sweeping the very life away from her. There was no one else nearby and he ran for her despite his own terror at her condition. He noticed then the bright red across her mouth and cheeks and a piece of duct tape she had managed to remove so she could call for help.

She looked at him with lifeless eyes almost too weak to even notice his presence. But he talked to her quietly, calmly, and with as much gentleness as he could manage.

Quickly not knowing who had hurt her or if they might return and knowing that there was no service in this part of the park her took off his own leather jacket and wrapped the girl in it. Then he lifted her in his arms in a princess carry and ran with her towards the entrance to the park. The minute he got there he asked another woman to call for an ambulance and it arrived there only moments later. When he went to turn the girl over to the medics she had clutched at him her body trembling and asked him in a quivering whisper not to leave her. And so he hadn't. Not until they reached the hospital and she had passed out due to the trauma or blood loss he wasn't sure. He sat outside the hospital room as a policeman had approached to ask him what happened.

He had barely started the statement when a group entered the hospital in grand fashion. There were three guards in front and two behind. But it was the person in the center that almost caused his heart to stop. The woman was petite at just over five feet tall. And while her figure was slim she moved with a liquid grace that spoke of a dangerous predator. She wore her deep red hair pulled back in a high ponytail that fell down almost past her hips. It was when she turned slightly and he caught a look at her face that he felt like he had seen a ghost. The soft white skin with the light dusting of freckles across her cheekbones and the bridge of her nose, the thin arched eye brows that matched her auburn hair, and her lush pink lips were identical to the woman in the hospital room. The biggest difference was her eyes. Her bright green eyes pinned him with a flood of pure anger. He had swallowed and looked away.

Without hesitation two of the body guards had placed themselves to either side of the hospital rooms door and a doctor immediately came out to escort the girl inside. She came out a few moments later to approach him. She dressed all in black and she had nodded to the policeman whom was escorted away by the one of the other bodyguard. The woman looked at him the anger in her eyes withdrawing to an icy coldness. She stopped before him and looked down at where he sat in the chair. "Thank you for your help tonight. If you hadn't found her I'm not sure we would have found her in time." The girl held out her hand and he took it into his shaking it lightly before she withdrew it. "However, it is best that nothing be mentioned about any of this. Our family situation is, difficult and I do not want you to get dragged into our troubles."

Miles remembered not being able to open his mouth before she drew a card from the back pocket of her black jeans. "I won't forget your help. If you ever need help simply call me." There had only been a number on the card and a bodyguard had then whisked him away while the petite woman couldn't seem to keep her eyes off him. He had told no one and rarely thought about that night. Except looking at that trunk he knew buried under the cigar box full of childhood photos was her card.

Avoiding the glass on the floor he tore into the chest moving the spare blankets and photo albums. He pulled out the box and tossed the pictures full of people he didn't want to look at to find the card. Before he could rethink his decision he pulled out his phone and dialed.
