1 A tough job

Being the grimreaper is a hard job. A very hard job. My name is Scarlett. Scarlett Johnson, and this is the story of how I became the grimreaper.

So, let's start form the beginning.

I never thought that being dead would ruin my life, I mean, I literally just died. But I was the one who took my own life, after running from all the trouble. I'm a crook, As in, I've revived myself, but I was a crook. I look like myself, the only thing they know about my features is that I have Scarlett hair, hence my name, blue eyes and an eyepatch I used to wear to look like an edge lord. I've killed people in some disturbing ways, which I'm not proud of. I'm a criminal, if you didn't know what a crook is. So, I'm running away from the law while being the grim reaper. Not a good combination.

As the grim reaper, it's my job to take the souls of people who died but, I have to kill the sinners too. Since the devil cares sooooo much about the economy. Let's go back on how I became the grim reaper. I died. You see, I didn't want to die. So, I made a deal with the devil. Something you should never do.

That's how I became the grim reaper. Now back to the present.

"Scarlett, I'm gonna die if you don't wake up" some guy said as he poked my head, he had a sad, sorrow expression."I don't even know you that well. You're just a barista that serves me coffee everyday" After I said that I felt guilty but I was speaking the truth, like bruh back off. I met him a week ago, and he always serves me coffee at Starcoffee (knock off of Starbucks, don't sue me).

"Yeah, I'll leave you in peace" he said with the same sorrow expression on his face, like the one he had before. My heart was in pain, when I looked at his face."What am I thinking, no one likes me, you know, after that day". I looked around trying to find out who said that but no one was near me, except James the barista. After that search of 'who said that thing?' (I'll take James for $600, Bob), I needed to find out the most important thing, what day? Back It was only me and James. He couldn't have said it. It was loud as if it was in my own head. Weird. "Weird Indeed"

The voice belonged to non other than Satan himself. Shit! "You still can't use profanity near me" he stared at me with some savage look in his eyes. My mouth wouldn't open, and my whole body froze. "You seem scared, Ms.Johnson" his cold hands lightly grazed mine. I tried to speak but my mouth just wouldn't budge, it felt clogged up. He snapped his fingers, and within a millisecond a list appeared on his palms. His talon nails scratched it slightly. "Pay attention to the names on this list Ms.Johnson. Now, all you have to do is kill all of them. I've had a rough time dealing with them" I looked through the names listed, on the top of the list was a name scribbled out. The only letter that I can see in the scribbled name is 'r'.

"Who is that?" I questioned myself, unknowingly, I said it out loud. "Someone you used to know, you don't know them that well because of-. Ah, I just forgot time is running out." He true to push me out in a hurry but that failed. In a swift motion, I turned around while having my hand near his neck ready to strike. "Just tell me why l could hear his voice! And who that person is!" He sweatdropped to what I was saying and what I was doing. I mean, I was just curious. "You naive human. Ms.Johnson, your 'neck slap' will not harm me. I'm the devil. Ever thought of that?" He closed his statement with a facepalm. 'Hah, it's his fault! He chose me as the grimreaper!... Wait? I was the one who made the deal?' "Ms.Johnson, something you'd should know, is that I can hear everything you've said, in your kind it whatever." He looked at me as if I was stupid, which is true. "Ah, yes! Just tell me everything!" I mean, I'm curious as to see what is beneath the ends of hell.

"Here, let's make it simple. Everyone has a part in hell, like a job I guess. The sinners, the people who, if someone ends up in hell but wants to make a deal with, they will have no punishment in exchange of their entire freedom. A mindless slave. It's better because you aren't suffering but being a mindless slave makes you feel incompetent, incomplete, empty. And you, my....'companion', have presented the idea of the grimreaper. So, you become your idea, meaning you can assign anything you want as the grimreaper as long as I agree to it. It's unfair to those gruesome souls." Before he continues, I interrupted. "So, who was the scribbled name, and can I have the list!" I pounded my fist on his chest in a swinging motion.

He made a small movement by swinging his hand up, saying something inaudible along the lines of '——— call————————- god——————-' What? Call, god?

I'm at the Starcoffee, I feel dizzy for some reason? James?! Why are you running towards me? "Wh-"

Ughhhhhhhh. My head hurts like hell. That's super ironic. Why is the room so bright anyway? I look to the right of me and a see and sleepyhead near my bed. Seems like it's night, the right time to strike. Well, that sounded super cringy for some reason. I dashed through the window, full fledged and ready to bounce (1980's retro reference 'let's bounce', that's equivalent to 'let's go'). So, let's hunt a sinner shall we? Wait..I forgot. I have to bring some dead souls... Isn't that "death's" job. Nevermind, I just received a text from him telling me that he's skipping work day.

Guess I'm doing two jobs from now on.
