8 The Alpha Team

"Standby Alpha team." the voice on my in ear communications said.

A sturdy man wearing a black stealth suit crouched beside me. We are now observing the situation below the building below us. "We're in position Navigator. Waiting on your signal."

The person beside me is Monkey King.

About a month ago, he saved me from impending doom and from failing my first major mission. A lot of the things happened since then.

They told me things that I've never heard before. The truth was like a nuclear bomb that came out of nowhere.

First, I found out that my dad came to Sky City's Island before it became a City. The reason was because of one thing – Celestial Alloy.

Celestial Alloy is a powerful mineral that isn't from this world. A group of archeologists accidentally discovered it underneath Sky City. It was then that my dad took over as the head researcher.

According to the resources, a kilo of Celestial Alloy could power up a City as large as Sky City for the next 20 years. That's how powerful this thing was!

A lot of major corporations were trying to sabotage the research and take this priceless mineral for themselves, but dad discovered a way to fight back.

In his earlier months of research, dad found out that the Celestial alloy wasn't just compatible with technology but it was also able to enhance human performance.

The result of this research birthed the first generation of super powered beings using the SPS 1.0.

But there was a huge miscalculation on my father's part. After they defended themselves from the greedy corporations that were after their research, the people that got the first system were corrupted. This gave a nickname to the SPS 1.0 – The Biohazard Project.

Hence, most of the people who were once on their side rebelled against them. It was a bloody battle. Helpless against these evolved beings with the SPS 1.0, dad created a new system that would fight against this beings.

This resulted to the new SPS 2.0. Also known as the Light Mainframe. Secretary Ren was one of the people that took the experiment successfully turning him into the Monkey King.

After years of war, the two sides were at a stalemate. The corrupted were getting fewer by the day and same goes with the people with the Light Mainframe were capturing them.

It all changed when a person from the Light Mainframe betrayed them and released all the people with SPS 1.0. Not only that, they stole a copy of the research and ran away with the corrupted biohazard people.

That was when the villainous group came to be. They call themselves Biohazard named after their system.

Ever since then, dad realized that even the Light Mainframe could be corrupted. So they decided to shut the hero system down and he started on the new SPS 3.0 which I currently have.

This was a system that could not be corrupted but there was a bug. We would be choosing our own paths. A hero or a villain. It made the project riskier than the previous ones.

Dad had to work on numerous calculations to fix this bug, but at the peak of his research, he suddenly disappeared.

This was a lot to process. Nobody knew if he was alive or not.

But after this happened they founded Radar, a corporation that focused on biomedicine and virtual reality medicine. But this was all a cover for what the company truly stands for -- to counter the underworld villain group known as Biohazard.

And that's not even the worst part. THIS wasn't the only thing I learned that day that changed the way I saw things.

When Clyde came to, he admitted that he was part of the first batch of experiments in the Biohazard System. But he was not working for them.

Mom had no idea what dad was really doing, therefore, he just assumed that Clyde was a friend. Clyde was part of the Trojan Syndicate. A group of terrorists known for their overt and assassination missions. They are an organization solely composed of people with SPS 1.0 and 2.0 who are hitmen. He couldn't really tell us much about it since this was a mysterious organization that ran deep within.

The moment someone tries to track them, they leave a dead end for you. Based on what Clyde said, someone was willing to pay him a large sum of money to play as a good cop and then run the operation. His employer said that this was for them to "set an example" to the major powers of the world.

After which, Monkey King and Ice Queen locked him up in their power dampening prison.

In the month that I stayed under Ice Queen's wing, I learned to control my powers and developed my basic attributes.

Since I was a <Factionless>, my growth was very fast. It easily climbed up the rankings and that was how I was able to enter their elite forces.

I also accumulated the number of points that Ice Queen asked me to save up by going with them in missions. The purpose for this was for me to buy proper equipment for myself from the system's shop. There was a hidden shop for the factionless and that's how I found out about it.

She even told me that our shops were different from each other and everything that it was selling was based on my attributes and muscle memory.

In short, the shops were selling things that were tailor made for the person possessing the system.

As soon as I entered the shop, I immediately knew what I wanted.

There was a set equipment that had a leather jacket with a hood on. Underneath the hood was a masked that would cover up the bottom part of your face. This hood focused on Agility and Strength attributes. It also masks the aura of the person using it. The hoodie was quite useful to someone with a strong intent to kill.

The pants and shoes that I'm currently wearing gave me a boost in agility. This further enhanced my attack speed and movements speed. There was also the fingerless gloves that came with it. It focused on boosting my strength.

I didn't choose this because of the stats boost, but because of the set effect, the design and the awesome headphones that it came with.

That's right… it came with the headphones. So why not?

Don't worry, I bought it because the headphones also boosted my intelligence.

That's not all. The headphones can also grant me super hearing or to pick up communication signals in the air.

The hidden skill that the set effect triggered was infinite ammo for pistols and rifles. This was something that Ice Queen suggested to me.

But I actually laughed it off and told her that I was never going to use a gun.

Big mistake…

All of that changed the moment I had to go through a gun fight in one of my missions.

Since then, I decided to buy a customized desert eagle with a silencer on it.

This made it easier for me to enter the Alpha team which was in charge of scouting or assassination missions. Also, I made a decision to keep my dagger for the meantime. I kind of feel attached to this thing.

Oh yeah! I also earned a code name while on the field. And it's…

"Paradox. Are you ready?" Monkey King asked while he shook me.

"Ye-yeah…I'm just recalling something." I replied.

He just smiled at me while patting my back. "It's alright we'll find your mom. Focus first on the mission at hand."

That's right. My mom never came home after she left. Now both of my parents were missing. I'm not even sure if they're both alive.

But after using our connections at Radar, we finally have Intel that stated that my mom was seen in this warehouse below us.

She'd better be alive in there.

"Alpha team, the Gamma team are in position. Mission starts in 3…" The Navigator is now ready to start the mission.

"This is it Dox. We'll get your mom out safely." Kai, one of my teammates said.

I gave her a nod as I stood at the edge of the building.

"2…"

"Shadow… you know what to do. Sleeper make sure you don't screw this up." Monkey King reminded.

Shadow just gave an "okay" sign towards Monkey King.

"Y-yes b-boss! D-don't w-worry!" She said in a fidgeting low volume. She actually was freaking out. She might look clumsy and anxious, but when the mission starts, it's as if she becomes a totally different person.

"1! Go!"

Sleeper jumped high in the air and dove down first. The moment she did, the Gamma team were able to cut off the power supply from the warehouse.

While the lights were off, the people below were not fazed at all. It was as if they were expecting this.

Something doesn't feel right…

Nonetheless, Sleeper still glided slowly below while activating her skill. Using her wings, she can give off sleeping powder that could knock the enemies out. The only downside to this is that if it's windy, it couldn't hit its mark properly and other people might get affected by it as well.

Once the guards started nodding off, the lights went on again. We noticed that a few guards were not affected by the sleeping powder.

"That's my cue." Shadow gave me a salute as she did a backflip off the edge and dove behind one of the collapsed guard's shadow.

Shadow has the ability to hide in anything or anyone's shadow. But in turn, she can't hear anything outside nor can she see anything. The person on comms would have to give her instructions. She is also able to "hear" memories of the person while being in their shadow. But the person that she's "possessing" should be uncounscious.

"Haaaa… I guess I have to go as well…" Kai scratched her head before she stepped off the edge and allowed herself to fall feet first before she disappeared in black smoke.

Kai is an assassin that uses a giant scythe and can go into stealth mode. Well, more like "Wind Walk". She disappears in black smoke and can travel in the air through that smoke. The problem with this is that her smoke is highly flammable.

"Showtime Dox…" Monkey King cued.

I closed my eyes and started to set-up a barrier…

This barrier is called "Silence".

Did I mention that after I got the headphones I understood that I got a thing for sound and soundwaves? No? Well, now you know.

One of my skills is that I was able to silence the battlefield we were on.

Before, I couldn't even control the size of this barrier and I compromised a lot of missions because the enemy noticed that they couldn't hear each other.

There was also a time back then that I also lost control and made a huge barrier making me faint after the excess use of the skill.

Now, I was able to control it but I still need practice.

The problem with this skill is that if a person is in another "dimension" or if someone is speaking to you from a different place like a radio or comms, they can still hear it. The purpose of my skill in the Assassination Team is that I can prevent gun shots and shouting and crying from being heard.

Kai appeared behind one of the people and started hacking them with her scythe.

Ugh… the sight of it still makes me want to puke. Even after a month with this person, I still can't get use to this scene.

Bodies were being torn apart and blood was spewing everywhere.

She could have just knocked them out, you know?

After seeing that the massacre was over, I leaned forward allowing myself to fall.

As I was falling, my heart was beating fast.

I hope you're alive mom…

These were the thoughts that was going through my head.

I landed and started walking towards the huge doors of the warehouse.

After Kai made sure that all the guards were either dead or asleep, she gave me a nod. I cancelled my skill as the team started approaching me.

"You have something on your face Kai…" Monkey jokingly pointed out the blood that was all over Kai. He was just trying to lighten up the mood.

"Whatever you jerk!" Kai retorted.

Just then, Shadow appeared from my shadow and said, "This place is not what it seems. There are ten sub levels below this warehouse. According to what I heard, they're holding up people on the 8th level. But I didn't "hear" your mother's name from any of their memories."

"They must need special clearance to get to the lower floors." Kai said.

"Your mom must be there with those people." Monkey King said.

I didn't say a word.

They're holding up people? Why?

At this point, only one thing came to mind – Human Experiments.

The thought of this sent shivers down my spine.

"W-what now C-captain?" Sleeper worriedly asked.

Monkey King thought about it for a while before he pressed his comms button and said, "Did you get all that Navigator?"

"Affirmative…" The Navigator responded.

"Tell Ice Queen that we'll need the Beta Team's back-up after all. Make sure they'll come after 15 minutes. We'll clear the way for them just in case. How's the security inside?" Monkey King instructed.

"The Gamma team has already assessed the situation and has hacked the security in the first four levels. However, we need an onsite hacker to allow you to access further levels." The Navigator replied.

"Negative, we don't know how dangerous it is inside." Monkey King disagreed.

He's right. If we bring someone from another team, it'll mess up our rhythm. Not only that, he might end up dying.

"Don't worry MK, we're sending Cypher. He's on his way." There was a hint of a smirk coming from the other line. Navigator actually was sending "him". This means, there's more to this mission.

The approval for the Beta team to come here. And the best fighter in the Gamma team. Something big is going on.

Okay, here's the thing, it's pretty rare to see two teams on the field. Now, there will be three… That's totally unheard of.

There are actually 5 teams. The Alpha team, being in charge of assassinations and the elites among elites.

Beta team, being the largest. They are on the field agents mostly and do things in the light of day.

The Gamma team, being the tech team. Most of them sit behind a computer. They barely have any fighters on their team. I only know ten fighters, Cypher being on top.

Then we have the Omega team. They are the second largest group in the organization. This team is composed of spies who are asked to infiltrate not just Biohazard but other crime groups in the world.

Lastly, there's the Zeta team. We don't know anything about them. They are practically a legend. But they handle the most dangerous and mysterious cases in the organization.

"W-what's that?" Sleeper asked while pointing at the thing that was heading towards us in unbelievable speed.

"That… would be Cypher." I answered.

Just as I finished answering, he stopped in front of us and his wings merged with his battle suit. Yes, Cypher is a technopath and a genius. The only problem is that he can only control 3 machines at the same time. His suit being one of them. So, technically, he can only control or manipulate 2 more.

"Hey guys! Glad to help!" he cheerily said.

"Great. Now that you are here…" Monkey King paused before he continued. "Let's go get your mom."
