31 Chapter 31

Steve was sitting alone in a bar. There were a very few people in the bar. He seemed very drunk. Past few weeks had been very tumultuous for him.

He had lost the trial against Lisa. A CCTV camera vividly captured him in his act and was enough to prove him guilty of sexual assault. Lisa was freed from the assault charges with some fine while he was sued for the sexual assault. He was still defending in that trial.

His company kicked him out citing breach of ethical Code of conduct. No other news agency was willing to hire a sinking ship. His own wife abandoned him and had filed a divorce suit against him. His children refused to meet him. His closest friends and colleagues were avoiding him. He had become a total outcast.

"I will destroy you. You bitch." He murmured. He was furious at both of them. They had destroyed hi life.

"I gotta pee." He got up and walked towards Bathrooms.

He was coming out of bathrooms when he saw Melinda standing on the footpath across the road.

"I will teach this bitch lesson, today." He quickly paid his bill and got out of the bar. It had started snowing.

"What the…" He was annoyed.

He wanted to cross the road when he saw a taxi stop in front of Melinda. He quickly moved towards his car, sat in, and turned on the ignition. He had a hybrid hover car. He started following the taxi.

"You are not going anywhere. I will have my gift today." His eyes were red. He had sobered up.

Melinda was at her home with her family when she called Lisa. Since the incident with Steve, she started admiring Lisa as a woman more. It takes a daring and incredible woman to stand against a man for their rights. Women really avoid such people because the society mostly questions them, blames them for being sexually harassed. It is normally a lose-lose situation.

Melinda packed some rum cake and eggnog from home. She wanted to surprise Lisa. Lisa's private office was only at 15 minutes' drive. She was in no condition to drive. She called a taxi and left for office. On the way, she bought some donuts for Lisa and reached office.

Lisa's office was on 30th floor. Security knew her so she could easily enter the building. A lot of journalists had offices in this building. She boarded the elevator and reached 30th floor. Melinda was wearing pink shirt with Dark blue jeans and pink high heels. She walked to the Lisa's office and waited for a few moments. Her heart was racing with anticipation.

She pushed the door, it was open. She cautiously closed the door, crossed the hall with silence and opened the door to Lisa's main office and jumped in.

"SURPRISE." She screamed. But Lisa was not there.

"Where did she go?" Melinda was surprised.

She was going to call Lisa when she heard the main door opening. A mischievous smile spread on her face.

She quickly hid behind the door. The door opened and someone entered.

"HAPPY CHRISTMAS." Melinda jumped out and screamed.

"Tring. Tring." Lisa's office phone rang. She got startled.

"Yes?" She answered without taking eyes off her computer screen.

"Oh. Okay. Can you please send him up?" She requested.

"Please." She pleaded.

"Okay. I am coming." Lisa sighed. It looked like she gave in.

Lisa was feeling a little tired and hungry, so she had ordered some coffee and her favorite donuts. The call was from building security to inform her that her order had arrived. She got up and left the office. The building was empty, she did not feel the need to close the office. She reached the lobby by elevator. A deliveryman was standing entrance.

"Thanks." She collected the bag and checked the order.

"Oh." She checked again.

"Everything alright?" Deliveryman asked.

"There are only two donuts. I ordered offer pack of 4 donuts." She looked at deliveryman. He rechecked.

"Just a moment ma'am." He looked apologetic. He confirmed the order from the branch office. They confirmed that due to a lot of orders they had mixed up her delivery with someone else.

"I am sorry ma'am." He apologized.

"It's alright." Lisa sighed. She was already getting late plus it was not a big deal. Two donuts were enough. She opened her wallet, paid the man, and turned around to leave. She had already included the tip.

"Ma'am, Donuts are free. Please accept them as a token of our apology." Deliveryman called her back.

"It's alright. Keep them." She said without stopping. Deliveryman was overjoyed.

"Thank you, ma'am. I really appreciate your generosity." He said loudly.

"No worries. Thanks for your service. I really appreciate it." She turned to look at him and then waved him goodbye. She had reached the elevators. She pressed the button. Elevator was coming down.
