CHAPTER TWELVE

"Ah. Can you save them too?" Shadow asked, walking up to a cage. Instantly, the few cats that were still semi-alive started an uproar of voices. "Hey! Shush! Do you want the scientists to come in here and grab us too?!" I hissed, and everyone went quiet. "Who are you? How did you open that window?" A cat next to me asked. Rosaria, also one of my imaginary characters. Then, next to her was her best friend, Daisy.

Originally, Daisy was going to die today, and Rosaria was going to wreak havoc on the scientists, but that wasn't happening this time around. "Uhm, Shadow. Can you stay here?" I asked. Being a ghost would come in handy, just this one time, since I could walk through walls. Shadow looked at me, and then his eyebrows walled together. "Why? Are you going to do something dangerous?"

"You loon, this is already dangerous. And yes, but I'll be fine." I said dismissively. As I moved towards the door, Shadow suddenly came in front of me. "Wait. Whatever it is, I can do it instead."

….???

"You're going to die if you do it, and that would be a shame." I scoffed, but Shadow didn't move. "Really. I can do it." Shadow protested, and I pushed him aside. "You're already doing enough. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. I'll be back soon." I said.

As I wriggled under the door, my body went cold. Good, then Shadow wasn't trying to follow me. As my fur went numb and cold, I decided to look around. Of course, the door itself had a heavy padlock that I wasn't going to try opening. Luckily for me, the inside did have a lock openable by code. But someone going inside would mean suicide for my favorite imaginary character, Shadow.

Over my dead body! Not my meal ticket and eye candy! I frowned. Another way, then. I bet all the doors had the same code, so, hypothetically, if I got the code for one…

I dashed down the hallway. Good thing ghosts also don't make any noise. come on, come on! My heart pounded as a scientist walked next to the door. 1234. A typical password. I whipped my head around to see a scientist also opening the door to the room where all the cats, including Shadow, were.

No, no, no! Screw you, luck! Why can't you ever side with me?! I dashed down the hallway and threw myself through the door straight onto Shadow, and instantly my paws appeared in the air. Shadow must have seen my face, because he flinched. "Beeflight? What's wrong?"

"Hide," I whispered, but the door was already opening. shucks. "Shadow! Hide!" I said, but Shadow shook his head. "I told you, I'll fight for you."

"Idiot! You can't be honorable about this! we both have to hide!" I snapped, but the door was already opening. Twoleg voices swarmed around me, and Shadow hissed. No! That's making it worse! Suddenly, I froze as I saw one of the scientists pull out a syringe and aim at Shadow.

No.
