CHAPTER 12… A MARRIAGE CONTRACT, A DIVORCE LETTER, AND A BLANK CHEQUE
Selena was seating on the couch, watching a series as she nursed a bottle of soda when she heard a knock on the door. She placed the bottle on the table and went to open the door.
Outside, a woman, dressed in a neat and perfectly ironed pink shirt and black pants stood with a smile.
Selena looked at her closely. She was sure she did not know this woman or where she was from.
"Hello. How may I help you?" She asked.
"Hi. You must be Miss Scott, right?"
Selena nodded.
Okay, the lady knew her.
The woman stretched her hand for a shake as she introduced herself.
"I'm Marcella, Mr. Lancaster's personal assistant and he sent me to you."
Oh!
Selena smiled awkwardly and opened the door wide enough for the woman to come in.
"I'm so sorry," she muttered, leading Marcella to a couch.
Marcella nodded and sat down. She looked around the room and smiled before turning to face Selena who had sat down across from her.
"Nice place you have, Miss Scott."
Selena smiled.
"Thank you, ma."
Marcella nodded and pulled out a brown envelope from the black handbag that she came in with. She handed it to Selena who took it with a raised brow.
"Mr. Lancaster wanted you to have this." Marcella stated, pointing to the envelope now in Selena's hand.
"In it is a marriage contract, a divorce letter, and a signed blank cheque."
Selena opened the envelope to confirm and she was suprised when Marcella was right. Not that she doubted her though, but what was she supposed to do with a divorce letter?
"What for, Miss Marcella?"
"Well," Marcella smiled and replied. "Mr. Lancaster wanted to assure you that this marriage will remain solely on your terms. The divorce letter is a testament to the fact that you can quit when you feel like."
Selena chuckled and mumbled under her breath but Marcella heard it.
"His crazy."
She looked up at Marcella and asked, "And the cheque?"
"You should write the amount you require, it's already signed by Mr. Lancaster himself."
Selena nodded and reached for a pen in the holder that sat on the table. She pulled out the marriage contract and scribbled down her signature as Marcella watched her with keen interest.
She noticed that Selena finished signing the contract, she placed everything into the envelope without touching the cheque or the divorce letter.
As curious as she was, she didn't ask. She simple picked the envelope, shook hands with Selena, and left the house.
Selena crashed back on the couch once the door closed behind Marcella. She has done it! She had just signed a marriage contract with a narcissist.
How lif-ish.

"Are you saying she did not-" Timothy did not complete his statement when Marcella nodded.
He motioned for her to bring the files to him.
Marcella handed the files to him and checked the time on her wristwatch. She saw that it was getting late already.
"Mr. Lancaster, can I g-"
"Tell Drew to drop you off at home." Timothy interrupted her without looking up. "Goodnight, Marcella."
"Good night, Mr. Lancaster," Marcella replied before dashing out to find Drew. Heavens knew how sleepy she felt.
Once Marcella was gone, Timothy opened the envelope and took a look at the files. He chuckled and put them back in.
To be honest, he was curious about this lady. He had given her a way out before the marriage even started. Yet, clearly, she had rejected it.
She wouldn't blame him when she would not get it when she would request for it.
With an unconscious smile, he left his seat and made his way into the bathroom.

"Uhmm," Selena nodded, her mouth full from a large butevif pizza. She swallowed before looking at her brother. "I signed it."
Rick was less disturbed about his sister's uncultured side when he came to pizza from Megan's shop. Right now, he was more concerned about his sister's marriage to a man she barely knew.
"You did, huh?" He mumbled and she nodded. Without a word, he handed a slice of pizza to her but she rejected it with a loud burp.
"I'm full." Selena muttered and stood up. "I need to watch my weight, else, I'd float like a ball -round and weightless."
Rick snorted loudly.
"You mean like an amoeba, shapeless and beautiful."
Selena glared down at him and hissed.
"Amoebas are not beautiful. They're ugly and disgusting."
Rick nodded calmly.
"That's what I meant. I only said it in a polite way."
Selena shook her head and entered the kitchen to wash her hands.
"You know, he sent a cheque." She yelled from the kitchen, turning of the tap and grabbing a hand towel.
"How much?"
"Blank," she replied and came out to sit on the floor besides Rick. She rested her back on his side and placed her legs on the couch.
Rick frowned. He returned the slice of pizza to the box and sat properly, in a way his sister would be comfortable.
"Who does that?" He asked.
"Timothy Lancaster" they chorused in unison and burst into laughter.
After a while, Rick stopped laughing and looked at the wall.
"Are you sure you wanna do this?" He mumbled.
Selena stopped laughing and turned to face him. She smiled and grabbed his hands, giving them a light squeeze.
"I do." She replied, nodding her head. "Trust me."
Rick nodded.
"So, let me get this straight," he said, looking Selena straight in the eye.
"He sent a marriage contract, divorce letter, and a blank cheque."
Selena nodded calmly. She wrapped her arms around Rick's neck and squeezed tightly.
"You don't have to be worried." She whispered with a wink he couldn't see. "I'll be fine."
"I know. I'm worried for him." Rick teased and placed a kiss on her hair.
Selena chuckled and let herself enjoy the warmth of her brother's arms. Rick may be her younger brother and she may be the older one. Yet, all her life, Rick had been the only true family she had. Even when no one was there, he was her source of comfort and she wouldn't trade him for anything else.
"You know I gat you, right?" Rick mumbled, his head was laid on hers and he wrapped his arms around her shoulders.
"Always," he added.
Selena nodded and let out a deep breath.
"I'm nervous, Rick," she confessed and Rick smiled faintly.
He knew she was nervous. Maybe, even scared. Their parents never had a peaceful marriage, he knew that much and he would not want his sister to go through the same ordeal.
"I know, pumpkin. You don't have to be worried about anything. You'll be fine. You'll be a good wife."
Selena shook her head and sat up.
"That's not it. I know I can make a good wife. What about him?"
Rick smiled and pecked her forehead.
"You," he whispered, "don't have to be worried about him. If he dares to do anything stupid, I'll show him whose sister you are,"
Selena smiled.
"Love you, Rick,"
"Love you too, little spider…"
