2 Covering Tracks

"I have no money, nor anything of value to you. Would you believe I just washed up in this city when my ship was destroyed?" Cain replied.

"Yo man you tryin' to be funny? You don't just wash up from a shipwreck in New York. I think you're tryin' to skip on giving up your cash and your watch. Save yo breath we can do this the easy way or the hard way. What's it gonna be?" The taller man with the biggest afro asked.

"I can assure you that whatever outcome you are thinking of will not come to pass. Regardless of whether we do this the so called easy way or the hard way it will still end the same way and that is, with me standing victoriously over your bloodied corpses. How about you answer some of my questions and we go our separate ways hmm? No need for bloodshed or senseless violence."

"You sound proper educated and shit so you must be rich. But now you been talking smack to me an' the boys we'll do this the hard way. They will find you corpse tomorrow floating in the Hudson River with a Glasgow smile." With that the lead afro and his goons charged at Cain.

The fight, if it could be called that, was over even before it had begun with the three recently deceased people hitting the ground simultaneously. Three sharp fatal blows and they were dead. One with crushed ribs and internal organs, one with a broken neck and the last had his head explode like a watermelon with a single straight punch. Because everybody was genetically enhanced Cain had never fought a normal human and as such failed to appreciate how weak and fragile they were. It is one thing to have the knowledge but quite another to experience it first hand. Even if he knew though it wouldn't have change his actions. To someone aiming for his life, especially when there was no reason to do so as the weren't mortal enemies or political opponents and such things like that, there was no need to be merciful.

It was to be expected really as from what could be seen from the wheeled vehicle Cain narrowly avoided being hit by earlier, the style of dress and by the speech of the assailants he seemed to have traveled at least sixteen centuries into the past.

All humans in Cain's time were genetically modified without exception. When humanity first encountered an alien species they proved to be hostile and the ground delegation were slaughtered by them. They were stronger then humans and where able to use mental powers to create illusions to trick and confuse people. An extreme race of herbivores that had evolved and in doing so systematically wiped out all predators on their planet and where just taking their first steps into space.

The unanimous decision after having heavy hearts and lots of soul searching was made that humanity as a whole had to be better, to be superior as it were, to what they currently were as what would happen if we met other races with the same or better technology and they also proved hostile. This meant breaking every rule in the book and tossing the laws prohibiting human experimentation our of the window from the top floor. Naturally there was widespread unrest and many people vehemently opposed the idea. Numerous religious groups, fanatics and cults spread up over night about how the world was ending and we where going against God's will as he made us perfect the way we where. With the majority of the world's populace opposing genetic engineering a cabal of the government's top people from various fields where formed on ideas of how to tackle the issue and to make the idea acceptable or civil war would soon break out and humanity would have enemies in space and home soil. This was a major cause of concern and a stark reality as there were already clashes and protests everyday with significant amounts of property damage and loss of life. After blanketing all the industries from food to entertainment and everything in between with propaganda as well as several accidents such as chemical spills and terrorism to release various chemicals and formula's meant to alter genetics and cause serious medical conditions which the answer could only be found through genetic experimentation as our current medical abilities weren't enough popular opinion began to sway. What the populace where not aware of was that the government were also adding their formula's to food and in some cases genetically altering the food to produce genetic alterations. Some of the older, wiser leaders knew that sacrifices had to be made for the greater good of humanity as a whole. Of course it is nobodies great surprise, that the main ones pushing for genetic modification were the military. There were also lots of leaders and people in prominent positions pushing for it as well. Well they would, as most of them had been in that position for years and spent most of their lives getting there and were getting on in age. The prospect of being able to live longer was extremely appealing to them. Looking at the decision objectively and what nobody would admit to was that, that humanity had run itself into a steel bulkhead and at the first sign of trouble got scared. Rather then burying our heads in the sand like the ostrich, we decided to go the opposite way and do something about it.

Technological progress can sometimes take decades or sometimes a flash of inspiration can solve one thing leading into entire new avenues of research. Build from the base and work the way up was the motto, so radical experiments in biotechnology began and huge strides were made constantly in genetic engineering. Advances in DNA resequencing allowed those undergone the procedure to be more agile, vastly superior intellect, durable and roughly five to ten times as strong as an average human. It didn't stop there as heart muscles were twice as strong, lung efficiency was doubled and bone density greatly increased to resist breaking. The blood contained platelets capable of regenerating from any disease or toxin and their bodies regeneration rapidly increase. All of the natural senses were amplified to be able to hear a pin drop from a mile away and eyes like a hawk. Eventually after decades of research the aging process had been halted to the point where one could live forever. All of these were made to be hereditary to strengthen humanity as a whole. Eventually other people started experiments for cosmetic reasons and it wasn't uncommon to see people with animal traits like furry ears or tail or radical new hair colours like bright pink or luminous green. Some liked to splice DNA even further and had eyes that could see in different spectrum as well as other traits. The meaning of the word human had become subjective.

This still wasn't enough however as some of the scientists wanted to create people with special abilities which is where Cain's parents came into the picture. In an ancient meteor impact site while looking for exotic metals, some very advanced genetic material was found. As Cain's father was head of genetic research for the entire empire it was sent to him to study. Being the narcissistic megalomaniac that he was, after studying and finding some unique properties with it he integrated it into the fertilized foetus of his wife also a highly respected scientist while covering it up saying that it was too degraded and the gestation failed. A normal human had twenty three pairs of chromosomes but Cain had twenty seven.

"Boy I have named you Cain after the man cursed by God in the bible, as I am your god and you are a forbidden existence. Titanus after the ancient Greek titans created by Gaia or you can think of her as Earth itself and Universe, because with all our power and knowledge this universe is ours for the taking. Genghis Khan was a great conqueror in his time and had lots of women as the spoils of his wars. More importantly because of the vast amount of women he had, he spawned a huge number of children and his genetic marker can be found throughout practically everyone in the human race. You will be our Genghis Khan as the more you conquer and the more children you have then the more of me lives as you have my DNA throughout your veins. Towards that end I had specifically modified your reproduction organs so you should be able to procreate with just about any humanoid species while making you incredibly fertile and ramped up your sex drive. Well I made all of your emotions increase not just lust and sex drive that way you, will be more aggressive, possessive assertive and dominant. A superior man needs to be superior in every way. Go out and conquer like the god amongst men that you where made to be!"

Personally Cain didn't like the name at it was too pretentious and garish nor did he agree with his fathers twisted view on things. With all that said his father was disappointed, as Cain didn't display any supernatural abilities from the other evolved DNA. With that being the case he forced him into the super soldier training from birth with other radical genetic experimental children. That way he could be unstoppable in combat and outside of that he made him learn all the military battles, major events which help shape cultures and countries and technological inventions going all the way bad to the stone age as well as various other subjects. That was the beauty of technology in that time all the information could be directly and permanently imprinted into the brain so there was no need to spend hours upon hours over years in tedious study. Cain had long surpassed what most people could consider doctorates and PhD's in almost every subject to man. Thus with his intelligence how could Cain not know that if he showed any supernatural abilities he would be dissected and cloned, so he chose to hide them and the changes he went through.

So a normal human has a reaction speed of 215 milliseconds, but with the vast genetic engineering and evolved DNA Cain's was estimated to be between 20-30 milliseconds when in combat or similar high stress situations. The reaction times where so fast that he was able to think, react and see things in slow motion. Also his cells divided fifty times more faster then a normal human so he healed pretty much instantly. So long as he wasn't shot in the head and had his brains splattered everywhere then we was very tough to kill.

Naturally with this being the case the three untrained normal humans stood no chance at all and were dead before their brains could process Cain move.

"Well the first thing to do when behind enemy lines is to gather intel and recon the immediate area to see if there are any threats, gather supplies to survive and find a shelter to lay low. Granted I am not exactly behind enemy lines but I need information of when and where I am so I can blend in as well as food or the means to get it. Maybe these guys have currency I could acquire".

With that Cain started rummaging through the bodies taking all the things with numbers on and slipped them into his uniform. With that done Cain took out his rifle adjusted the settings and fired three shots to vaporize the bodies and placed it back into storage.
