18 Chapter 18 - Trap(2)

POV: Avery Rockefeller

I was pissed.

It seemed that as soon as I came back to the family, I was fighting battles on all fronts. Hence the reason I was pissed.

The past couple weeks had been spent dealing with that bastard of an old man and older brother of mine. Between getting the company back on track, handling my own business that was booming, and dealing with my farce of a marriage that my family refused to end for some reason I was very stressed and angry.

I briefly considered ignoring the family business and continue doing my own thing but when I recalled my grandfather's face and words as he asked me to manage the company him and his ancestors had managed to build, I scrapped the idea. I would have to battle this out with my father and brother.

Unfortunately, dealing with the Rockefeller company work was both boring and tedious so I ended up looking for different things to amuse me.

I guess that's why I had taken a little interest in the little bird of the Blackwell family.

I had sent my sister to keep track of her and befriend so she would more inclined towards signing the contract. She seemed to be a bright young mind being suppressed by her family. I seemed to be collecting quite a few of those but the benefits had definitely outweighed any cons. Still, I hadn't expected to be so thoroughly entertained by her and my sisters' shenanigans.

Loretta gave me a daily report on her…stalkerish tactics to befriend Canary, and it was quite a riot. I always had a good chuckle at Loretta's earnest expression as she reported the cat and mouse game she and Canary unwittingly played as my sister didn't have enough common sense to approach Canary first to speak to her. Still she was working hard and doing everything she could to get a car at graduation.

I would get it for her of course, but no need to have her relax her behavior so soon. She was clearly a danger to herself and everyone else behind the wheel.

I was pleasantly surprised when Loretta reported that their relationship had developed enough to get food and go shopping together.

I was double surprised when my assistant told me that Canary had signed the contract and wanted to move out immediately.

Still it was of no concern of mine. After speaking to her I continued as usual with my usual day; signing documents and making edits to stupid proposals.

I was preparing to head out and go to my penthouse around 12am when my assistant hesitantly approached.

"Sir?"

"What is it?" I asked. Alyssa usually didn't hesitate about anything – that's what made her such a good assistant. I wondered what was bothering her.

"I just wanted to inform you that Miss Blackwell never moved into the apartment unit. The movers were denied entry by the Blackwell Family as well. They claimed it was a mistake that Canary every made the request and would like to void any contract with the claim that she is still a minor. Weve been trying to contact Miss Blackwell all day but haven't had any luck reaching her."

"Interesting. It seems they are hell bent on hiding that girl. I'd love to see who dares detain my future employee" I chuckled lightly causing Alyssa to flinch slightly. She claimed I looked evil when I did.

"Thanks for informing me. You may leave." I dismissed her with a wave and continued to head home. I would deal with this problem when I arrived there.

When I arrived, I immediately sat on the couch and whipped out my laptop.

I quickly texted a contact of mine Canary's number.

Headhunter: what info?

Avery: phone location during the past 24 hrs. in 1 hr. snapshots.

Headhunter: 3k no negotiation. The information will be in your email within the next 5 minutes.

Shaking my head at his rudeness, I sent the money and opened my email. Sure enough, an email arrived, and it had a clear log of Canary's phone's position.

She hadn't moved from the house for almost 2 days. Clearly, she should have been able to meet the movers. Something or someone must have stopped her from leaving.

Must have been parental interference.

I briefly considered not interfering and letting things play out.

But. She was one of my people now. And I didn't let anyone walk over my people.

Plus, I hadn't wreaked havoc in a while and really needed to let out some steam.

Chuckling, I made some calls as I prepped my clothes for Loretta's graduation. It was sure to be a busy day and I had been ordered to look my best.
