The whispering wind and creaks from branches above their heads were loud. Tess didn't get to see the scar behind Lanse's bangs. He had grabbed her hand before she parted his hair.
It took another blink for her mind to recognize the sensation of his hand around hers. She darted her pupils to the left corner.
"Oops, I didn't think you'd mind," she said and pulled her hand back.
Her heart dropped when the hard grip didn't leave her hand. He squeezed her hand between his and slid his fingers between hers. It got that feeling from steamy romance movies to rise, and she didn't like it.
"Are you ever going to show me that scar on your neck?" He moved her hand with his and rested it on his chest. His dark red eyes stayed glued to her pale ones.
She felt the beat from his heart before she pulled her hand away. "No. You're never seeing it."
