10 Chapter 10: What if We Played a Game? (1)

Mabel's POV

Since we arrived in Gravity Falls, my vacation has been incredible, and I can say loud and clear that I've never had such a good vacation.

I was able to see a sea monster, even if in the end it was more of a giant robot than a monster, it was still amazing.

I was even able to discover a government conspiracy with Dipper, which no one will believe me about at school.

"I can't wait for the rest of my vacation with this thing," I said, looking at the gift Dipper gave me when we left the house with Pacifica.

"Look at you drooling over that trinket, I have a Rolex but it seems your brother doesn't appreciate you enough to buy you one, haha," Pacifica taunted after observing me looking at the U-Watch Dipper had given me.

"I'm sure it's more practical than your old watch," I replied, but in return, she only ignored me.

I must admit that this only makes me even angrier.

[Girls, calm down, I'm here anyway, the coolest one here, aren't I, "my" Dipper?] Gifany declared on Dipper's wrist.

She had been on Dipper's U-Watch for a while, which I think is a bad idea, because like Pacifica, Gifany hovers around Dipper.

[Dipper, where are we going?] Gifany asked, fidgeting a bit.

I can understand her since, I'm also a bit tired of walking.

I don't know why Dipper didn't want to take the car or Adrien, since we wouldn't have had to walk through the forest, but he didn't want to explain it to me.

"I know a nice place and I'm sure Pacifica and you two are going to enjoy it," he declared with a mischievous little smile that worries me a bit.

"I'd like to know something, Dipper," Pacifica suddenly asked.

Since he started greeting Dipper, she had never initiated a conversation, but she occasionally throws him furtive glances.

I'd even say she seems slightly captivated by him, which is strange since Dipper is not really handsome in my opinion, at least he's slightly above average.

"I'm just imagining things," I muttered, lightly slapping my forehead to chase these useless thoughts from my mind.

"Is there a problem, Pacifica?" Dipper asked Pacifica, who was walking next to me, slightly behind Dipper.

"I would like to know, how you know so much information about our family, but also who you really are, Dipper Pines," she asked. in an uncharacteristically serious tone since we met.

"I see," Dipper said simply, slowing his pace to be at the same level as Pacifica.

"I found the information out about your family thanks to a government conspiracy, you're free to believe me or not, and as for my true identity.."

Dipper stopped walking and turned to Pacifica.

"Shh, it's a secret, haha," he said, laughing.

"Dipper, what is Pacifica talking about?" I asked simply.

"She wanted to know the origins of the documents we obtained in the secret room the other day," he replied simply, as expected of Dipper, he really wouldn't hide anything from me.

"I see, the one with the president, but why is she talking about strange things like your true identity?" I question, intrigued by this part.

"President??" Pacifica muttered, seeming lost in this conversation.

This was the question that made me the most uncomfortable.

"Mabel, there's no secret identity, haha," he said simply before laughing.

"Do you really see me as the kind of person who would hide things from you?" he asked me, patting me on the head.

"Sorry for doubting you, Dipper," I said, slightly embarrassed.

Although I've never doubted Dipper, I realize that my questions may have been embarrassing for him.

"This is where we're going to have fun," Dipper suddenly declared in a clearing.

Dipper's POV

I already knew that Pacifica was going to have a bad impression of me because of my conversation with her parents.

Unfortunately, this was necessary, and I needed the Northwest family.

The gentle or civilized approach would never work with people like the Northwests, because of my humble origins and their oversized pride.

"It seems I'll have to repair my relationship with her, or at least my bad first impression," I said, searching for the lever that would lead me to Ford Pines and Old Man McGucket's bunker in this clearing.

Although I don't appreciate the Northwest family and could cut ties with them after using their influence enough, I needed to maintain a good relationship with Pacifica.

The reason is that it costs me nothing to be her friend, and she is the future heiress to their fortune, which is an advantage.

"Mabel, Pacifica, just wait a few seconds," I said, activating my jetpack to reach the suspicious branch and activate the bunker's opening.

"What's that?" Pacifica asked, watching the bunker's entrance open in front of her and Mabel.

"I already said, didn't I? This is where we're going to have fun," I said, descending the staircase of the bunker's entrance.

"What are we going to have fun with?" Mabel inquired, looking around with a curious gaze, just like Pacifica.

"Haven't we ever played an 'escape game' or a 'treasure hunt' before?" I said, looking at a Mabel who seems excited by the idea.

"What's an escape game?" Pacifica asked, clearly ignorant.

"You don't know?" Mabel declared in a shocked tone.

Mabel's reaction seemed to make Pacifica uncomfortable, and her embarrassed expression confirms my assumption.

So I gave her a quick summary of an "escape game".

"So you want us to play an escape game and a treasure hunt in an unknown bunker in the forest?" she asks me, frowning.

"Basically, yes, but I'll specify that before leaving the bunker, we have to obtain something precious from here, and we'll leave in teams of two," I explained, entering a suspicious room with strange patterns.

"The winners will be the ones who bring the most impressive object, and they'll have the right to ask me for something," I said, using my "U-Watch" to check the contents of the journal.

"If I can do it, then I'll grant the little wish of the winner," I said, facing them to see their facial expressions.

"So are you ready to take on the challenge of a humble man, Pacifica Northwest?" I provoked with a smile that seems to have angered her.

"We , the Northwests doesn't know defeat," she said, casting a few glances at the flashlight on my belt.

"Excellent, you'll team up with Mabel, and I already have Gifany," I said, activating the traps in this room.

I'd like to let Mabel handle it with Pacifica, but I don't think they'd be able to manage it.

The walls of the room have started to move towards our location in a strange and disorderly way.

"What's happening?" Mabel asked with a face that couldn't hide her concern.

"What have you done, Dipper?" Pacifica asked, frowning.

Without answering them, I directly pressed the symbol embedded on the floor, walls, and ceiling.

This opened a door in the trap room to allow us to escape, so I grabbed Mabel and Pacifica to run towards it without too much thought.

"Thank you, Gifany, for your efficiency," I said to my U-Watch, which displays the code needed to open and save us from the trap.

[You're welcome, Dipper, I can't wait to see the depressed faces of those idiots after the game, haha] Gifany replied, clearly impatient to start the game.

"I forget one thing, since I can't grant myself a little wish, then if I win with Gifany," I said, pausing as if I was thinking about something.

"I know, you and Pacifica should do me a favor," I said, addressing Mabel and Pacifica, still on the ground, who seem to be recovering from the shock of having almost died.

"I don't play in too dangerous places," Pacifica responded after taking some pills.

"Oh, I see the lady is afraid," Mabel provoked in a self-satisfied tone after getting up.

"I... I... Grr and damn it," Pacifica cursed for the first time since we met.

"Okay, I'm in," Pacifica replied, looking Mabel in the eye.

"But I'll team up with Dipper, and you with Gifany," she said in a clearly non-negotiable tone.

"I agree, anyway Gifany is more bearable than you," Mabel retorted, coming towards me.

"Dipper, give me Gifany's consciousness," Mabel demanded, handing me her U-Watch.

"You don't even ask for our opinion," I sighed, transferring Gifany from my U-Watch to Mabel's.

[Dipper, you're too tolerant of these girls, and I didn't give my consent] Gifany protested on Mabel's U-Watch, but unfortunately for her, no one took her opinion into account.

Author's Note: Finally, the 10th chapter. Honestly, it was more difficult to write than I thought (Mabel is too chaotic and sensitive a character).
