3 The Power Of A Fruit

Lowden was shocked. Probably more so than when he first came to this world. What he held in his hand in front of him, was almost definitely a Devil Fruit. It seemed as if the pirates had found it and the Marines intercepted them, the bloody battle ensued and the fruit was left to Lowden. Just as when he arrived, his heart began to speed up alongside his breath, though this time it was out of excitement, rather than fear.

He quickly took the fruit from the box and held it within his hand. A cold, yet soft feeling transmitted through to his palm, creating a peculiar feeling. He could feel the individual ridges and shapes covering the fruit, making it seem more like a stone than an edible object.

Inspecting the fruit closer, he could see the curved shape of these ridges, giving them the form of waves. This, mixed with the deep blue colour made the fruit look like the surface of an ocean. Lowden had no idea what the fruit could be, there was a logia that turned the consumer into a Water man, but that was just something in the realm of legends. Looking at the fruit once more, Lowden audibly gulped. What if this was that legendary fruit? What then?

He had no choice but to eat it. Even if he did and it wasn't the Mizu Mizu no Mi, there would be no loss on his behalf, he would still become a powerful Devil Fruit eater. He quickly calmed himself down and picked up the fruit with his other hand and brought it to his face. Letting out a deep breath, he took a bite.

Almost immediately, his face contorted into a frown. The Devil Fruit was undoubtedly the most disgusting thing he had ever tasted, which was a surprising thing coming from someone that had tried Hákarl in his previous life. Even so, he continued to chew with thoughts of the power he would gain surging through his mind, preventing him from spitting it out. It only took a few seconds to swallow, but it felt like an eternity to Lowden and as soon as he finished, he fell to the ground unconscious, leaving nothing but a powerless, rotten fruit in his hand.

Lowden found himself slowly opening his eyes once again for what seemed to be the second time in a day. His body didn't feel particularly different, except for the surge in his physical strength. With all of these curiosities bombarding his mind, he decided to check his Status, but as he was about to do so, a window appeared in his vision.

Lowden was jumping for joy, quite literally. This was until he regained a bearing of his surroundings and moved away from the scene of carnage, walking into the forest surrounding him. It was only after he stopped after about 5 minutes of walking that he looked at the window again with a smile on his face.

He was reading along about the titles and the All Stats upgrade when his eye was caught onto the bottom line.

["First Devil Fruit?... But people can only eat a single Devil Fruit?..."] {Lowden}

As if to answer him, the window displaying his gains disappeared with another taking its place, bearing information that shocked Lowden greatly.

Though the message only displayed news negative for Lowden, he couldn't help but get more excited after reading it, after all, it did confirm his hypothesis. He could have 2 Devil Fruits! He would be the first person in the history of the world 2 eat 2 Devil Fruits! Even in the show, no-one had ever been seen or confirmed to have eaten 2 Devil Fruits successfully. Blackbeard may have stolen the power of Whitebeard's fruit, the Gura Gura no Mi, through his own Yami Yami no Mi, but he didn't consume the Devil Fruit itself, he simply absorbed its power.

His face still showing a beaming smile, Lowden opened his Status.

Lowden looked at his Stats with pride. His abilities were essentially double what they were when he first arrived in this world. On top of that, his Mizu Mizu no Mi was ranked S+, he didn't know if that was the highest, but it was undoubtedly high nonetheless. Eager to try out his new moves, he walked deeper into the forest.

Back at the scene of the battle, a new force had arrived on site about 20 minutes after the departure of Lowden. Similarly to the ones lying dead on the ground, the new arrivals bore the distinct white coats belonging to the Marines. A tall man was standing just at the edge of the bodies, towering above the surrounding marines.

He was about to engage in conversation when a Marine rushed from the sight of the battle with an open box in his hand.

["Sir, Sir! There was an open box in the middle of the battle! Look at the velvet!"] {Marine}

At this, the tall man looked away from the other Marine and began to pay attention to the report from his subordinate.

["Purple velvet on the bottom of a wooden box? It has to be a Devil Fruit."] {???}

["What should we do, Commodore Bogan?"] {Marine}

["We'll return to the town. A Devil Fruit eater appearing is no small matter, especially on an island as small as this one. We'll need to report this to the Vice-Admiral."] {Bogan}
