2 A New Name

After the light had faded away, the only darkness apparent was the back of Derek's own eyelids. Opening them with a squint he found himself lying on a dirt floor, completely covered in a warm, viscus liquid. A searing pain ran through the left side of his body, causing him to jolt upwards into a sitting position. It was then that he could see the situation around him. He was surrounded by a sea of bodies.

Bodies missing arms, missing legs, some even missing their heads. Each one had numerous wounds on their body, either from swords or bullets. The sight caused Derek to retch and vomit behind him, as if looking away from the hellish scene ahead of him. As he turned his head around, he caught a glimpse of his own body. His left leg had a deep gash running from his knee to his ankle that was pouring blood profusely. The broken blade of a sword had been pierced through through the right side of his chest and judging by the feeling of blood flowing down his face, he had received a wound there too.

He tried to compose himself to no avail, he started panicking and hyperventilating excessively, leading to his situation worsening. Luckily for him, it appeared that he was currently going into shock, meaning that the pain would be numbed for a while. He cursed the God within his mind. Of all the situations to put him in, he chose this one. The only benefit God gave him was the ability to view his status, but what use would that be if he was dead?

Amongst all of the shock, he thought of a way that could potentially resolve his situation. If he opened his status, it might be able to present him with a way to fix himself. Opening his mouth, he sucked in air, before shouting out in pain.

["STATUS!"] {Derek}

As he did so, a familiar white light descended over him, covering his entire body. The light relieved him of his uncomfortable feeling and likely the pain if he could feel it. He closed his eyes while submerged in the otherworldly glow. Even so, a window appeared in front of his vision.

Derek was amazed, his Status had appeared and it was too much information for him to take in at once. First off, his name was no longer Derek, it was Opal. D. Lowden, a name that Derek found surprisingly nice sounding. The most important change was his body however, he was no longer the 31 year old man that he was before, he was now only 15 years old!

His mind was still that of a middle aged man, but his body was significantly younger, creating a weird contrast within his every action. He presumed that his Stats were equivalent to a 15 year old in this world, rather than a 31 year old on Earth. After all, the people that live in the world of one piece were considerably stronger than the humans of Earth, so much so that they could make impossible feats on Earth look easy to a pirate or marine with above average strength. Lowden hoped that he too could gain strength like that.

Obviously he didn't have either a Devil Fruit or Haki as soon as he came into this world, the previous owner of the body was just an average 15 year old. As he was thinking that, a thought struck Lowden like a bullet. If he was just an average 15 year old, why was he surrounded by a sea of bloodied bodies? He didn't want to open his eyes to check, but he had no choice.

He gradually opened his eyelids to look upon the horror before him, but strangely, it didn't affect him as much as before. Perhaps it was just because he was in a panic, but the visceral scene in front of him only made him retch a little, rather than empty his stomach beside him. Lowden attributed it to his newly gained power, taking over as the current host of his body. Maybe a large majority of the shock came from what the previous owner witnessed, now that his ego was gone, the disgust lessened within him. Even still, it wasn't a sight that someone form a peaceful Earth was used to, hence why he wanted to get away from here fast.

He slowly stood up, fully displaying his height of around 6 foot, fairly tall for a 15 year old, though this is the world where the 10 foot Don-quixote Doflamingo exists, alongside the 22 foot 7 Gekko Moriah. He noticed that the sword in his chest was completely removed and the wounds on his face and leg had completely sealed up, leaving only scars in their wake. He couldn't see what he looked like, but he assumed that the scar went across his eye based on feeling.

Slowly walking towards the visceral mess in the centre, he noticed the outfits of the people on the floor. Ragged clothes like Long Johns and Overalls, contrasting to the distinctly white coats that could only belong to the Marines. It was clear that a fight broke out here between 2 groups, presumably Pirates and the Marines, but the cause of their fight was completely unknown. Looking at the bodies surrounding his feet, he assumed that he was the only survivor, whether he was a member of a side or simply a bystander, he didn't know.

As he was about to escape the bloody encirclement, a small wooden box caught his eye. It was clasped within the hand of a dead Pirate, so he quickly but carefully separated the box and its previous owner. Pulling the clasp on the front caused the box to shoot open, revealing a cover of purple velvet on the inside. Atop the purple velvet, was a mysterious, swirling blue fruit.
