16 Five Year Time Skip

"Our plans are centered around your growth. We plan on staying around town for the next several years. When your big enough to travel on your own we will leave and begin exploring the continent, as we make our way to the Spiral Mountains." Sarah started to explain.

"After we have arrived at the mountains, your real training will begin. There are countless species and varieties of beasts and monsters around the mountain range. You should have no problems tempering your mind, body and honing the control of your power!" Finished Jacob.

"This plan works for me, I had similar plans as well. I will be looking forward to our distant adventure." Says Jax, happily surprised at his parents well thought out plan.

"All there is to do now is wait and prepare as best we can. In the meantime, I will be teaching you about our world, it's peoples and customs." Said Sarah

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get this show on the road!" Said Jax excitedly.

"Sarah, while you explain what he needs to know, I'll head to the adventures house to see if there's any quests or missions needing fulfilled. I'll probably be home late, so don't worry and don't wait up for me." Says Jacob as he makes his way to the door.

"Ok be careful my love, I await your safe return." Sarah says after giving Jacob a kiss goodbye.

"Goodbye Father, please return safely." Said Jax before Jacob left the house.

"Don't worry, I will be careful. You on the other hand, have some very boring learning to do. Although, your mother is a very good teacher, so pay attention and try to memorize everything she has to teach you, understand?" Jacob says.

"Yes father, I understand. Don't worry, by the time you return, I'll have memorized everything mother has to teach me." Replies Jax

"Good, very good" says Jacob as he exits the house.

"Now, let's begin with the world itself. The world is called Terra. We currently live on the Northern Continent. There are five continents that make up our world. They are The Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western and Central continents."

(AN - Each continent's size is the equivalent of all the continents of Earth combined!)

"We are currently in the Kingdom of Helgard.

The royal family lives in and rules over the Northern Continent from the capital, Helgard City." Said Sarah

So begins Jax's education on his new life and the new world he calls home. In the years that follow, he does his best to remember and memorize his mother's teachings. He also never stops absorbing energy into his body.

In the blink of an eye, five years has past. During this time, Jacob had successfully completed enough quests and missions to pay the remaining funds for the horses and wagon.

Sarah had been constantly buying and selling various products from the local market and traveling merchants. Both of their storage rings were plumb full of small tools, building materials and countless amounts of spare food and cloth.

Jacob had even found another storage ring with nearly unlimited storage space. Only, this one was set aside for Jax's use. It was given to Jax on his fourth birthday. Jax had successfully defeated his first opponent in battle and his parents decided to gift it to him for his accomplishment.

Afterwards, Jax made it his mission to issue a challenge to everyone who'd accept it. He had defeated everyone of his peers in his age group , he had even challenged older kids, and sometimes he'd even win.

Jacob had made two trips to the Spiral Mountains during this time. He had managed to find an enormous cave, with several smaller caves attached, that was hidden behind a waterfall!

It's location in the middle area of the Spiral Mountains, made it the perfect location for their future needs. Not only was it useful now, but also in the long run as a potentially permanent place to live.

They were almost ready to leave town and make their way to the Spiral Mountains. Jax's fifth birthday was only a few days away, so they decided to leave a few days after.

"Jax honey, there's only a few days before your birthday. Is there anything you'd like to do before we leave this place? We probably won't be back for some time, if ever." Asks Sarah

"It's ok mother, I'm ready to depart from this place. I believe I've learned everything I can here. I'm ready for the next phase of my training." Replies Jax

"Ok, we'll when your father returns we'll discuss maybe leaving early. If everything is in order, we could probably depart the day after your birthday." Said Sarah after hearing Jax's reply.

Jacob had been gone for over a week now. He had picked up a mission, that required him to escort an important family to the city of Helgard. By his estimate, he should have been back yesterday, so Sarah was getting a little worried. Plus, she had a nagging feeling something was amiss. It'd been several years since she last felt this nagging feeling, but every time it has happened in the past, unpleasant things follow.

The last time she remembered having this feeling, Jacob had been late in coming back , just like now. Last time, he got ambushed by cursed souls and the Cursed Soul King.

As she was remembering the past, she heard horses outside their house. Curious, Sarah goes and opens the door. She steps out and finds herself face to face with a town guard.

"Hello sir knight, how may I help you?" Sarah asks.

"Good day ma'am, are you the wife of Jacob Talen?" Asks the guard.

"Yes, Jacob is my husband. Why? What's the matter, why are you asking me this? Is my husband ok?" Sarah begins asking questions to fast for the guard to answer.

"Your husband is alive, although he was found on the road outside of town. It looks like he barely managed to get away from a powerful beast. When he was brought into town, he was taken to the healing house for his injuries. The doctor says he should make a full recovery but he will need time to heal."

"The guard captain ordered me to investigate what happened to your husband. Given the proximity of wear he was found to the town, it could be possible that the beasts are preparing to launch a beast tide."

"Can you give me any details about where your husband was coming from or what he was doing outside of town. It'd be a great help if could provide and additional information." Answered the guard.

"As far as I knew, he accepted a mission to escort an important family to the city of Helgard. It was a simple guide and protect mission. He shouldn't have been in contact with anything he couldn't handle himself." Replies Sarah worriedly.

"If that's the case then I need to let the Mayor know, we need to prepare for a beast tide. Thank you for your time and answering my questions. Your husband should be able to leave the healing house later today. The doctor already stabilized his injuries, we're just waiting for him to wake. We will contact you if there's any changes to his condition." Said the guard as he gets on his horse and turns to leave.

Wondering where his mother went, Jax walks to the door and hears his mother's conversation with the guard. He's instantly suspicious of the story the guard told his mother.

His father was very strong, and none of the monsters or beasts around here were capable of harming his father to that extent, even if they managed to ambush him.

"Mother, has father ever mentioned if he was worried about other people coming after us or even just me. As you know, the cult of the Dark One is always searching for me or anyone connected to me. If they somehow found father because they could sense my aura around him, then his injuries are my fault. We should have went to the Spiral Mountains years ago." Asked Jax, he didn't know why but he had a gut feeling, that this had happened because of him.

"Magnus told us about the cult, and warned us about their ways of finding you. Ever since then, we've taken every precaution to avoid drawing attention. However, we can't deny the possibility of this involving the Dark Ones followers."

"We will just have to wait for your father, if he hasn't returned from the healing house by the morning, I will go see what's happening."

"You should put it from your mind for now, and focus on completing your daily training. Worrying about it now will only hinder your progress. Besides, even if the cult is involved, we both made a promise when you were born to protect you and keep you safe. If we need to lay down our lives for yours, we are more than prepared. You are the hope for the future, your life matters more than ours my child!" Said Sarah with determination and conviction.

A few hours later, Jacob wakes up and finds himself back in town, he knows he's home because he's had to visit the healing house before, so he knows the people who run the healing house. After paying his healing fees, he begins to make his way home.

He rushes to make it home quickly. The information he learned while completing the escorting mission, was very surprising and concerning and made him regret not going to the mountains sooner.

When he arrives home, both Jax and Sarah are waiting on the front step of the house. Both of them have looks of relief on their faces. Jax is the first to pick up on his fathers mood and says "Welcome home father. I'm glad to see you safe. Mother has been beside herself with worry, even if she denies it."

"It's good to be back, I'm sorry to make you worry my love. Let's go inside, I've learned some concerning information during my mission." Said Jacob while hugging and kissing his crying wife.

After going inside and getting Sarah calmed down, Jacob begins telling his wife and son what he's learned.

What he has to tell them is both surprising and concerning.

"After completing the mission, I was invited to the palace to rest and recover from my journey. Apparently, the family I had escorted was one of the kings many wives and their daughters. The king thanked me for ensuring his families safe arrival, and asked if I wanted a reward. I thanked him for his generous offer, and said any reward he deemed appropriate, would be more than acceptable. During dinner the king asked me if I had any children and I answered yes. The king then decided to invite our son to the palace, when he's of a proper age, to compete for the hand of one of his daughters." Explained Jacob slowly and carefully.

"Therefore, when Jax reaches the age of sixteen, he must go to the kings palace in Helgard. The king is already waiting to meet him, but it seemed liked he already knew we had a child, but asked to lower suspicion. I don't know his reasons for wanting to meet Jax, but I don't think it's wise to go without preparing first. Besides there's eleven more years before we have to consider it." Said Jacob
