Chapter 6 About the beast city

Hearing his explanation, Sydney didn't know whether to laugh or cry. From her past experiences, she knew this wasn't a dream and that tornado had literally washed her out of earth to this place. But being her, she was the kind of person that welcomed new experiences with open arms...as long as no one ate her, she was willing to stay around as she figured her way back home.

After coming to terms with herself, she looked up at the group of men and sported a sweet smile. "Hello!" she greeted with a wave of her hand leaving the men stunned speechless. "My name is Sydney, it's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance." She knew first impressions lasted, at least she needed that much to survive out here.

Such an easy going female! The young males were surely lucky!!! the different kings thought to themselves.

"Caden, you are in charge of attending to the female till an official bonfire is celebrated for the female." Carlos said and looked at Caden dotingly.

"Yes father." Caden replied helplessly and looked down at Sydney who was still standing by his side.

What Sydney wasn't aware of was that she was displaying a sense of high dependence on Caden which was like some form of silent acknowledgement of potential mates.

"Seems like the city lord won't be appearing. We'll meet again at the bonfire in seven days." the fox king spoke having run out of patience..he did have sons that were of age but all of them had already been mated but he had some trusted males that could be potential mates to the female. She was too beautiful to just go by without having an affiliation with his tribe and the high regard the other kings held for her made her position worthy coveting.

With nothing left to say, the other kings dispersed to head out to their castles while Sydney kept her eyes on the men's tails and ears with great interest. Caden didn't know what ran in her mind but he knew....he was going to have alot on his hands.

"Sydney....where do you wish to live. Here or at the eagle tribe?" he asked. As males, they only settled where females wanted and he didn't wish to dictate anything since females were the heads of the family.

"What's the difference?" Sydney asked confused. "Staying here can only be temporary but the eagle tribe can be considered your home now." he said.

As much as she was trying to resign to her fate as much as possible, she just couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that these men could actually become animals. She didn't panic and it surprisingly didn't show the she too was spooked at how well she was taking this bizarre adventure. "Why the eagle tribe?" she asked.

"It's because I saved your first. That means the eagle tribe holds responsibility for your security and providence before you select your mates, like your family now " he replied and looked at her. Her green eyes were glimming with questions.

"Um, since you know I'm not from around here, can you help me understand how your world works?!" Sydney asked gingerly. The more she learnt the better for her mind to understand this place and it's dynamics.

"This place is called the beast world." he said and guided her over to a stone chair. He first lay an animal skin since the stone was possibly cold. This talk could take longer. Nodding in understanding, Sydney attentively listened. "And this settlement is the beast city, the largest beast settlement in the beast world."

"Are all kinds of beasts here?" She asked expectantly. She was intrigued to learn that different species were residing side by side in harmony!

"The majority are, except for a few of the cold blooded beastmen species and the abandoned beastmen." he said and observed her to see her reaction.

"Why?" Sydney asked wondering why some beastmen didn't reside in the city.

"Well, some beastmen don't like sharing their females ending up hurting others while the abandoned beastmen are vicious males who kidnap and hurt females because they were discarded by their original females." he said bitterly. He felt bed for those kinds of males but he also Jared how they treated the precious females that were the pillars of survival for the different kinds.

"Can't they just find other females and become better males?!" She asked feeling pity for the poor abandoned males. If a woman didn't want you, then find another...what was so great about them!!!

"Unfortunately, a male can only mate once in his lifetime Sydney." Caden blew her bubble making her look at him in shock! "Males can only find one female and once abandoned, they have nothing to live for. Since males are very many and females are fewer, the females can have more than one mate " he explained.

Shawn who had finished checking in on the females under his care came to the great hall in fast steps with a stone bowl full of nuts. He arrived and heard the conversation between the new female and the Eagle prince. He wanted to give the nuts to her to eat. Caden who sensed his presence looked over and so did Sydney.

Another dashing male stood at a distance with a stone bowl fiddling in place. His skin was of a tan colour and he had dark green hair and pointy ears standing atop of his head, she caught sight of his fluffy tail swinging gently behind him and couldn't help but smile. He looked exceptionally well behaved, at least for a first impression. However, she looked into his eyes that were completely white, she felt sad....was he blind?! She wanted to ask but felt that it'd be rude.

Feeling the attention on him, Shawn sauntered over with the bowl and put it before the female like he could see her. He relied on his great sense of awareness and smell to tell where she sat and being familiar with this place, he wouldn't place the food down recklessly to avoid annoying the female.

"Hello, I'm Sydney." She introduced herself to the male who had brought her snacks?

"I'm Shawn, a wolf beastman at the fourth level." he spoke carefully with her seeing that she had taken the initiative to talk to him. It didn't happen to him every day that a female initiated talks with him. Despite his outstanding power level even surpassing males that were both physically and emotionally stable, he still didn't stand under favourable terms with the females and the best he got to interact with them was when they were ordering him around. Not that he hated what he did, he just longed to be appreciated one day and if possible accepted. But that was impossible!

"Thank you for the food." Sydney smiled and looked at Caden for further explanation in the matter concerning the level Shawn had talked about. "Beastmen have ranks at which they are recognized. The higher the rank the more powerful a beastman is."

"Oh...that's interesting!!!.. what's the highest rank?" Sydney asked.

"Tenth level then beyond that, one is considered invincible." Shawn who wished to be included in the discussion spoke up. Sydney looked back at him and he lowered his face to avoid showing his sorry state of a disabled beastman.

"Don't just stand there. You can join us, right Caden?!" Sydney asked seeing that the man wished to talk too. "It's up to you " Caden pushed responsibility back to her. She was the female, who got to stay or leave depended on her.

"Join us Shawn." Sydney invited the wolf beastman who was too happy to hide his wagging tail. Sydney chuckled harmlessly at the innocence of Shawn. She had just got here but was sure it's be alot of fun!
