2. The Beginning Part 2

Nick was used to the personality of his older brother. With a slight smile, he began walking along the wall with the sack of bread. This was simply the meeting spot the two always used, their true home was over the wall.

Seated just barely in the woods surrounding the Western half of the walls, there is a large, natural spring. Although the water is clear as crystal glass, no fish or plants survive within it. Along the backside is a tall jagged rock face spilt by a thin waterfall. The boys followed the shoreline, straight behind the waterfall, into their barely big enough cave that they called home.

Over the years, the two had accumulated more wealth than any single family within the city. Tools, clothes, ore, and even different hides were all stored here and space was clearly running out. Grabbing an axe, Nick began heading out of the cave. "It's time we start looking to the future Jin. We can't always live within this cave so it's time to start building our own home."

"You plan to build a house? HAHAHA Little brother, you know nothing of how to build a home and neither do I. How do you plan to keep it from crushing us?" Jin knew his brother was right but he also had a point holding strong validity.

Nick stared intently at his older brother before an evil smile spread across his face. "How many homes have I already been in this year alone? What do you think I was doing inside while you were always looking for things to carry? I could rebuild any one of those homes from how long you dragged me in them for!"

Not knowing what to say, Jin simply stood up and grabbed another axe. Walking past his little brother and a ways into the wood, he began chopping at a decent sized trunk. seeing his older brother defeated by reason brought joy to Nick. Not wanting to rub salt in the open wound he'd made, he got to work as well.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Four months past and Nick finally hammered the last nail into the roof. Standing back in awe, Jin could hardly believe what his brother had created. With no written plan and no schooling, he stood back and stared at their new home.

The first level was nearly fourty-five square meters while the second was a little under half that size. The size and detail the two had created dwarfed any home within the town itself. Working diligently and only stopping to eat, sleep, and gather 'supplies' from the town, the two had finished what he'd once thought was impossible.

Coming down from the roof, Nick stood beside his brother. "There is nothing the two of us cannot do if we set our minds to it. This is our proof that even the abandoned can achieve greatness in their lives."

"I was wrong to doubt you little brother. Someday, we will rise to the top of this forsaken world and live as we see fit." Jin had serious look on his face which brought a bit of worry to his little brother.

"We are already on top Jin. The people that left us for dead and refuse to know our existence will never know the beauty of the world. They will be born and eventually die in that pit of darkness they call home. They will never see what we have and will never achieve what we can, together."

Satisfied and detained the two called it a day. They ate the bread they had left before drifting into a deep sleep. The last sleep they will spend in this cave of theirs.
