Background

For those who are not familiar with the books of by L J Smith I would like to give brief introduction to the book series.

To begin I would like to explain that the Book Series about Stefan Salvatore and Elena Gilbert with Damon not playing a major part in most of the books.

Secondly Damon is shorter than Stefan in height and that gives him a kind of complex.

Also Stefan and Damon are 500 years old and originally come from Italy where they were both turned by Katherine who was staying as a guest at their Father's house. They have lived through the renaissance period.

Also Bonnie is a witch but she is a descendent of the Druids and hails from Ireland and has the last name of McColough. She lives with her parents who don't believe in Magic while her witch grandmother lived in Ireland.

Meredith is actually a high school student and a hunter who hunts vampires. She also has some vampire traits in her as she and her brother were both kidnapped by Klaus when they were little and only she was returned to the family.

Alaric is a hunter too and he is quite young and in love with Meredith and he is also a student of paranormal science.

Caroline is a psychotic bitch, hates Elena and ends up getting knocked up with Tyler's werewolf kids.

Tyler is the bad boy who tries to rape Elena but is in turn attacked by Katherine and later kills a girl to turn on his werewolf gene to serve Klaus with the sole intention to gain power. He disappears when a dead Elena's spirit exiles Klaus from the world. Elena gets resurrected in a special body afterwards.

At Fells Church Stefan Salvatore lived at a Lodge run by an old witch by the name of Mrs. Flowers.

There are other dimensions called dark dimensions where time runs at different rates. There are portals to the dark dimensions in various parts of the world.

Fell's Church and the adjoining areas like Dalcrest are paranormal hot spots because the land is covered with Ley lines which are like supernatural power lines from which creatures can draw power.

There are fox like creatures called Shinichi who can cause a Vampire to lose their vampirism.

There are tree like creatures called malachs that can possess other bodies from a single thorn.

Just like there are vampires and original vampires (Klaus), there are werewolves and original werewolves. Zander is an original werewolf and Bonnie's boyfriend.

Lastly there are these immortal creatures called Guardians who look after the balance of power in all dimensions. Elena's mother was one of them. (Yes Immortal). She also happened to be the mother of Katherine, the girl who turned the Salvatore brothers. Elena and Katherine are half sisters and not "dopplegangers". A child of such a guardian and a human has a special power. That power need to be waken and then the blood acts as a poison to original vampires like klaus. That is why when Klaus drank Elena's blood he turned to wax and died. An original that drinks Elena's blood cannot be resurrected. They are gone for good.

Bonnie McCollough is the chubby sidekick of Elena and Meredith. She has always been the scared and nervous kid with a stammer. She has never had a perfect body. With her strawberry blond hair, brown eyes, freckled nose, she had always been the less dynamic of the trio. So it isn't surprising that all the boyfriends she had were hand me downs from Elena or Caroline. She never dared to pursue a man of her choice and though she was attracted to Damon from day one she never ventured in his direction because:

1. Damon was dangerous

2. Damon was way too much interested in Elena

3. Even though Damon had sucked poisonous darts out of her almost naked body, and got staked to the heart to save her life, he was still too unattainable in her mind.

When the entire group moved to Dalcrest to pursue college studies Bonnie met a cute bond guy who started pursuing her. They both seemed mysterious to each other until it was found out that he was an original werewolf, something passed down through genes and they could actually control their transformation. He seemed a safe bet and Bonnie has been in a relationship with his since even though her heart beats for the vampire. Everyone thinks that Meredith is the only one in the group that can keep a secret but no one knows the secret about Bonnie's feelings.

To make matters worse though after Elena managed to kill Klaus and chose to become a mortal guardian with Stefan by her side the Guardians bound Damon to Elena so that every time Damon would kill Elena would feel pain. It was like they knew that to Damon Elena always came first. However once Elena made her choice known Damon decided to up and leave. He couldn't stand the sight of Elena with his brother while his heart beat with hers.

This story starts a few years after Klaus is dead and the Elena and Bonnie have finished college and decided to return to Fells church for the protection of the Ley lines. Damon is back in Italy and with everyone trying to protect the Ley lines Bonnie feels herself useless with witch powers that are mostly non existent. Zerena is Zander's cousin who happens to be a much stronger witch and takes up her part in the group while Bonnie is forced to return to the shadows. This distance forces her to seek powers like she never has done before.
