49 Nexus - New World

After the apocalypse began, the higherups in the government and military were busy enough just trying to fend for themselves. They had no idea what was happening below the ranks, and they only know their Nexus program had gone rogue when they tried to ask them for reinforcement to protect the president.

Nexus, an incubation program originally started by the government, was a secret project covering the research, recruitment, and training of innovators.

Innovators began appearing amongst people since the early 1900s, and they were known to be able to control a type of particles that exudes exotic light - GN particles.

GN particle, short for genesis nano particle, was recorded to serve various functions, with one of the most common being its coating ability, capable of enhancing the sharpness of physical weapons and durability of armors.

There's only a one-in-ten-thousand chance for someone to be born with the potential to awake its innovator potential. Despite this number, the power and potential of this newly-discovered population immediately attracted the attention of all forces, let it be government, corporate, or the dark world. The potential usage of these "human weapons" were basically endless and a gold mine, and it was clear that the number and quality of innovators under one's wing could directly determine who would have the absolute power in this world.

Due to innovators' terrifying potential in power and capabilities, EUF deemed them as a highly destructive influence on the peace and balance of the world, and therefore, had taken extreme measures to control and suppress this population in the name of peace, justice, and science.

Nexus is the organization backed by the US government, and its mission was to study and control the power of innovators to be used by the nation, preventing them to fall into wrong hands.

Upon spotting an innovator, the organization would try to recruit him or her into the organization through the hefty temptation of wealth and power. However, the innovators weren't really given a choice. After the one-month consideration period expires, if the subject still refuses to join, he or she would be either secretly assassinated or captured for the purpose of experimentation and research, undergoing gruesome torture in the name of "science".

It was the same situation with the corporate or dark world forces. All of these forces wield great power, wealth, and influence, but almost none of them were run by an innovator since many innovators would be suppressed and controlled at the moment their power awakens and barely be given the chance to climb to anywhere near the top.

Although ordinary humans, the leaders still wished to cement their position, thus they would try to recruit and control innovators. As for those that reject, these leaders would definitely give the order to execute or capture them, not risking to let them roam freely and become a potential threat in the future.

With the government-backed Nexus gathering one of the biggest innovator forces of all, of course, many innovators united and rebelled against them, knowing that the government was simply trying to eradicate anything that could shake their position, under the ridiculous claim of serving peace and justice. However, only the victor could write the history.

A brutal war took place, and the independent innovators lost. The more powerful innovators were already recruited by big forces they were trying to go up against, and they underwent vigorous training to improve their power. It didn't take long for most adult innovators fighting against these forces to die or be captured for experimentation.

Lastly, the executive decision to block anything related to this group and topic from public knowledge was made by the Earth United Federation (EUF), a joint alliance of top political powers of all nations on Earth. Many agencies were established to monitor the GN particle level of every city so they could spot and take care of any innovators the moment their power was awakened.

Blood tests were also conducted on newborns. However, they could only reveal innovators once they had awakened or were near the awakening stage, with the exception of higher-tier innovators, which have the passive ability to hide from being detected through a blood test.

Right now, Nexus was running the same operations as before, extracting innovators among civilians. Except that this time, it decided that enough was enough, the new world after the apocalypse should be run by the superior beings instead of a bunch of incompetent retards that could only talk the talk.

"Package loaded. Prepare for takeoff."

"Preparing for takeoff." The co-pilots checked the systems and scanned the surroundings.
