16 Gonna be Running Around in Circles

Since it's a small residential area, the island area was mostly occupied by either houses or roads, and there weren't many places to hide unless they could go into other people's houses.

But even if they saw families driving away to the bridge as requested by the coastal guards, who knew when they would be coming back? Since all four of them were law-abiding citizens (sort of), they still didn't feel comfortable breaking into someone's property right after they leave.

But, if they were sure that the owners of a house were killed by zombies or something, then they would feel better about "breaking in" to pick up some supplies or use it as another hideout. Thus, they prioritized in finding that kind of houses.

The group climbed out of the windows of the second floor onto the ceilings and began scouting with some binoculars to check out the neighbors around them.

"The house right beside ours where we parked earlier, I know they are on vacation in Europe and the zombie dropbox destroyed most of their front anyway. They probably wouldn't be back any time soon, nor would they mind claiming a few more lost items to their insurance company," Christian said as he remembered that those neighbors of theirs left a few days ago and told them to keep an eye on their house and pick up the newspaper rolls for them.

And that was all.

That was all the houses they confirmed and were perfectly okay with utilizing without any mental burden. They also found two houses across the road with open gates and empty garage, and one more two houses down on their side of the road where they saw the homeowners drive off. So, they marked it down mentally that those houses could be looted and utilized as last resort.

It looked like the Big D Brings Spring squad could only play around with an area of two lots, and of course, the road. If they accidentally wander into someone else's property, it would be a great question about whether they would get shot by other Americans first or get eaten by zombies.

After about 5 minutes of discussion, the preliminary plan was drafted. The area they would be operating on was the combined area of this house and their neighbor's house. They would move alongside of the fences so they could try to climb over any time in the case of an emergency and use the fence to buy some time to run.

The group would first wait on their roof so they could see where the drops were going to land, and then they would group along one of the sides on their house with the least number of zombies, walking along the fence towards a direction of more zombies.

"Wait, why are we trying to go towards the direction with more zombies?" Alex was a bit confused.

"Because first, we are here to kill zombies, and second, it's better to have our front face the zombies than our ass," Elon explained.

"We will take the diamond formation, with three facing forward towards the direction we are heading and one covering the rear," Jay proposed. It was one of the frequent formations they used in PUBG when clearing buildings or hallways.

After the route planning was done, the group went back inside and began preparing the guns and ammunition. They would each be bringing two guns just in case one malfunctions or jams. Since they all tried the different guns before at shooting ranges before, they felt comfortable carrying two different weapon types to respond to different situations.

Elon would be bringing the designated marksman rifle QBU-88 and M16A3 to primarily take care of the enemies in mid to long range from the side closer to the wall. Alex and Christian would each be carrying one shotgun and one submachine gun, alternating between the position of head and side of the diamond formation to primarily take care of immediate threats. Each of them decided to carry more bullets instead of a melee weapon.

As for Jay, he would only be carrying his M4 to cover the rear since the only guns left were bolt-action hunting rifles, which would be absolutely useless in this kind of situation. In the case of a weapon malfunction, he would borrow a submachine or assault rifle depending on the distance and number of zombies he spots at the rear. In addition, he would also be bringing his katana, since it did come in handy last time and he wouldn't be carrying a second gun on him.

In terms of bullets, they had more than enough for the time being, as they were able to find buckets of 5.56 bullets for rifles, big boxes of 9mm for submachine guns, and boxes of shotgun shells. Ammunition wouldn't be a problem, but the magazines and loading would be a big pain in the butt.
