1 Batman Saves Othello

Act V, Scene 2

In Desdemona's Bedroom

Pg. 184

(Desdemona is in bed. Othello comes in, holding a flashlight.)

Othello: I have to do it! I have to do it!

Othello: But I won't make her bleed, and I won't cut her snow white skin.

Othello: But she must die. If I don't kill her, she'll just betray other men in the future.

Pg. 185

Othello: I'll turn off the light in my hands, and then I'll turn off the light of her life. Turn off the light, and then turn off the light! I will kill you, Desdemona, and I will continue to love you after I kill you.

(The Batmobile crashes through the wall of Desdemona's bedroom.)

Batman: Now, you wait a second, Othello! Don't do it!

Othello: No! No! You're not going to stop me, Batman! Desdemona cheated on me!!!

Batman: Are you serious? I can't believe I have to deal with this dramatic, soap-opera crap.

Othello: Well, then, don't! You just stick to killing bad guys that actually deserve it–those mob leaders.

Batman: The only way you're different from those mob leaders is that you're an idiot. But the way you are the same is that you are both murderers.

(Othello pulls out his gun.)

Othello: Stay out of this! This is a matter between husband and wife! It's about me losing the love of my life!!

Batman: Man, you need some help. Gotham is full of crazy people like the Penguin and the Joker, but you are just the Idiot. You've got it all wrong. Desdemona never cheated on you. Iago made it all up.

Othello: Yeah, right. Iago's the only one who ever tells me the truth. He's always got my back.

Batman: Not so much, man. My man Q picked up some texts that Iago was sending to Roderigo, Emilia, and Cassio–he's got everyone and their mamas all confused. I think he's just mad because you didn't make him lieutenant.

Othello: He would never…where's your proof.

(Batman takes out his tablet.)

Batman: Look at this text he sent to Roderigo:

(reading) I promise that you will get with Desdemona by tomorrow.

Batman: And look at this text he sent to Cassio:

(reading) Hey, man, I saw that handkerchief when I stayed over at your

place! Is it for your new woman?

Batman: And here's one to Emilia:

(reading) You'd better get me that handkerchief. Why are you such a

useless wife?

Othello: Oh no! Iago! I can't take it anymore!

(Othello falls onto the bed and has a seizure. Batman picks up his phone.)

Batman: Hey, Q? It's Batman. Othello didn't take the news so well, and he's having a seizure. Can you call 911 for me? I'm trying to keep everyone alive here today.

Q (from offstage): Sure thing.

(Batman hangs up the phone. Othello wakes up.)

Batman: Glad to see you're feeling better. Just one more thing to show you, I promise–he was also posting anonymously on the Secret app.

(reading) WHY did Desdemona and Othello get married? He's mine!!

Othello: Oh, wow. I didn't know it was like that.

Batman: So, you believe me now.

Othello: I guess so. Wow, I almost killed Desdemona for no reason! Thank you, Batman.

Batman: Whatever. Keep your eyes open and pay attention next time so I don't have to come and solve your romantic problems again. And if she does ever cheat on you in the future, don't kill her. Sound good?

Othello: Yup.

(Batman leaves.

(Othello kisses Desdemona.)

Othello: I am so sad that I almost hurt the person I love.
