4 The World Beyond The Balcony

Its been three days since I was born into this new world. Lisa kaa-san took care of me full time while Gella kaa-san was out at work. Yes you didn't read that wrongly, she was out at work! Back on earth it would have been a ludicrous idea for a monster to go to work. I need to rid of all my prejudice and stereotypes to adapt to this new world. I feel my common sense breaking down with every moment spent here.

At first I didn't realise where I was as I was distracted by so many things going on. After my emotions settled down, only then did I realise I was within an apartment! It was a studio apartment with only a single room, a balcony and a kitchen attached. It feels incredibly spacious for me, maybe because I am only a third of my kaa-sans' size. There were two big bean bags and one smaller one at the corner of the room. Thats where we sleep at night, the smaller one is mine! May I add that I have always loved beanbags, sleeping in them feels awesome. Many of the common items back in my previous life existed here as well.

For the past three days Lisa kaa-san was trying to impart me the way of the slime. I was the one who named it as such in my head but it was basically just movement and speech. She was so into it that she wore a pair of glasses when lecturing even though her eyes are perfectly fine. It gets her in the mood I guess. I never would have imagined that I would one day think that a slime looks hot in specs. Its no use thinking too hard about it, I will just go with what I feel.

When I was left alone, I focused all my efforts into movement. Afterall I have a basketball dream to fulfill. I placed small items on the floor and did zig zag cone drills. I also did sidewalks and backward movements. All for the sake of agility. My playstyle relied alot on speed so I have to train up for it. The movements of a slime are pretty simple to grasp, you just need to focus on contracting and then release it to make yourself move. Just like humans legs, to move in a certain direction, you have to apply force in the opposite direction.

However I ran into a problem. Simply put, I can only move fast in a single direction. There is a delay everytime I contract my body and push in another direction. It is most likely due to my gel body, everytime I try to change directions, the inertia on the gel keeps my body to the ground. Is it due to an absence of muscles and bones to absorb and spread the impact? I have got to find a solution to this problem. Otherwise this may very well become my achilles heels.

At this moment, Lisa kaa-san was making dinner. While she was not watching, I went to the balcony. I want to get onto the ledge to see whats beyond. The ledge was too high for me but being a human, I would be a fool to not use tools! Thus I moved a big bean bag over and pushed my small one on top of it. This created a gentle slope for me to go up to the ledge.

Once I got up there, my eyes immediately widened. The scene I saw confirmed my suspicions. Previously I had already heard sounds of cars coming from outside but I had to see it to confirm it. I am in a city! There are cars and various transportation vehicles moving around. Monsters walking on pathways going about their lives. Buildings all around. Street lights spread all over like stars in the night sky.

I would think of this as a civilised world with monsters instead of humans. That explains why Kami-sama would send me here. Only in a civilised world, where one's survival is not constantly at risk, can we find sports and entertainment! A weird thought came to my mind. If I were to do a comparison, this world is more like Monsters Inc than ReMonster.

Still on the ledge. I started to shout out things that wouldn't make any sense to other monsters.

[Stats! Menu! Game Screen! Inventory! Status! Kami-sama!]

Well I am not too sure about the last one but all of them didn't trigger anything. I was trying to see if a game screen of sorts would appear before me. Hmm it would appear that this world is not as game-like as I imagined.

[AHHHHHHH! KURO!]

Oops it seems my shouts got the attention of Lisa kaa-san. Her eyes were full of fear as she rushed over and grabbed me down from the ledge. Before she even said anything, I felt a twack on my head. Ouch it hurts!

[What were you doing up there! You know you could have gotten seriously hurt!]

The voice that came out of Lisa kaa-san was not the usual slow and gentle one. It was anger mixed with lots of worry. Feeling abit guilty I replied.

[I am sorry. I wanted to see whats outside...]

[Kuro! You know you could have just asked me to carry you.]

[...oh.]

I was still smug about getting up there using the bean bags a moment ago but now that she mentioned it, there was this option as well. How foolish of me! As an orphan in my previous life, I had gotten used to doing everything on my own. There were traces of tears near Lisa kaa-san's eyes. Seeing how worried she was, I apologised and she gave me a hug. A warm feeling filled my mana core. So this is family.

[Don't do it again!]

I felt another twack on the exact same spot on my head and rolled all over the floor in pain. Are you a hidden kungfu expert disguising as a housewife? It hurts! I won't do it again! T_T
