6 Basilisk Core

"Father, can I learn magic?" Dean tried asking his father.

Joseph raised his head to see his son looking at him like a lost puppy. "Nope. You are just too young for it. You gotta wait few more years for that." He rejected his son without even giving it a second thought. "Looking cute won't work this time."

Dean already guessed that his father will not allow it. But he didn't really have much choice but to ask him. He used magic in his past life, but it was all his innate abilities. He didn't really have to make an effort to make it work, it just happened. His deadly gaze, venom and how his skin is magic resistant, it was all like passive abilities.

In the past couple of days, he has been thinking of ways to get stronger. The answer was, of course, magic. He tried using his past life abilities like instant death and petrification. But, he wasn't really successful with it. His gaze couldn't kill or petrify his target, it could only stun them for a brief moment. It was like a mind attack that stopped one's thought process. Its duration was way too short to be of any use at the moment.

As for his venom, he could only use it in his basilisk form and didn't really have any test subjects to test it on at the moment. But even without a test, he knew it wasn't as potent as it was in his past life.

'He may be right. I'm still too young. I can't even gather magic with my plume.' He tried to form a core in his basilisk form, but he failed.

Every male basilisk would have a scarlet plume on the top of their head. Basilisk would use this plume to gather magic inside their bodies, to form a core. It would continue to nurture this core for around 100 years. In the process, this core would passively enhance its venom to be more potent, making its skin and flesh stronger and magic resistant. At the end of this century-long process, it would be passed on to the next generation. This core would make the offspring more powerful, resilient and stronger.

In his past life, since he never had a mate or offspring, he never really had the chance to pass on his core. He continued to nurture his core for nearly a millennium. 'My core... it's either in the hands of my killers or the stored magic is already dissipating with time. Sigh, only if I had my core, I could at least enhance my physical abilities. I'm not even old enough to form my own core yet.' He was dejected. He didn't even use it in the hopes of one day having his own offspring. But, it was all too late now.

'Do I really need to wait for a few more years? I wonder if I can learn how to use magic by my self. Maybe, from the books? Yes, let's first learn how to read.' Dean decided. This will be the starting point in his pursuit of magic.

"Okay, I will wait. Can you at least teach me how to read?" Dean pleaded to his father.

Although, his father knew exactly what he was planning in his head, he still agreed with him, since it will be beneficial for him to learn reading at a young age. Of course, he will make sure that he doesn't try to practice or learn magic by himself.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the next few months, he started learning how to read. At the age of 5, he could already read without any problem. But the problem lied in his parents. They were adamant not letting him near any book related to magic. He tried a lot of ways to get his hand on one of the books, never to succeed.

Joseph caught the tail of the little basilisk and lifts it up. He saw him trying to sneak into his study.

"Dean, this is the last time I'm going to warn you. If I catch you again trying to sneak into my study, I will have to punish you. You got it?" He was a patient man, but Dean's recent behavior started to test his limits. "Why are you so obsessed with trying to learn magic. Didn't I tell you, you will be learning when you get older? Why don't you even listen, tell me?" Joseph asked, letting him down.

Dean changed to his human form with a sullen look in his face. He failed once again. "I just wanna start learning magic. I don't care if it's the simplest thing. It isn't even important if I can practice it or not."

"I will discuss this with your mother and think about it. But, if you continue as it is, you can forget about ever using magic until you enter Hogwarts." He warned his son one last time. Whether to obey or not. It will be up to his son.
