1 Prologue

His heart thundered in his chest like a hundred horses galloping in concordance, sweat poured from his head like a waterfall. His tear filled eyes straining to remove the sight imprinted upon his retinas, his eyes seeing yet rejecting the sight before them.

Skyscrapers made of flame dancing in tune to the wind as if in celebration, stretching to the horizon and beyond, clouds of ash lingered maliciously in the air like a guillotine waiting for an execution. Drops of ash fell from the sky, screams echoed amidst the chaos, like thunder in the night.

A maelstrom of flame exploded from the horizon, the cleansing flame spreading outwards, silencing the crackle of flame and screams alike in its wake. Tear filled eyes gradually dried in symphony to the approaching wave of fire, in air so hot it might as well be fire. His drying eyes struggled to see, failing to comprehend the sight.

Turning his gaze inwards, leaving the turmoil beyond his eyelids behind, he attempted to find the memory that could explain what was happening.
