TO SAVE A LIFE

RACHELLE'S POV

It had been three days since Robbie left Kristy under Alexander's care, and so far it had been going well however, I never thought that Robbie will be capable of leaving his only sibling alone- for such a long time.

Right at this moment Alexander and Kristy are playing- a game that I have no idea what is. Each has made a base on either side of the nursery room. They, as Kristy would put it are at war with each other, and the first person to destroy the other's base wins.

Without a warning, Alexander tossed a brown teddy bear at Kristy, while Kristy acted as if she's hurt and falls over.

Both are looking at me expectantly, with a smile I raised a red flag.

"VICTORY The demon lord wins!" I stated and both started laughing.

Alexander stood up and picked Kristy up "Do you want to have some snacks?" he asked with a smile.

As the light shone at the duo I can't help but feel happy, Kristy is having a great time, and Alexander… well, in the last three days he had been showing us a side I never thought existed. As it turns out he was so great with children and he's… he's a lot nicer each day, the way the sun will shine in his hair and his cute smile- his just…

"Rachelle? Rachelle?"

"Y-yes" I responded as Alexander called me.

"Would you like some tea?" he asked.

"Yes, I would love some" I answered immediately.

Goodness, I hope he didn't think I'm being weird.

"Alright, then I'll tell Hannah to prepare some tea" Alexander stated as he put Kristy down.

Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

And without any second thoughts, Alexander answered the door- revealing Hannah her brown hair tied in a neat bun and her eyes are looking down.

With fidgeting hands and trembling voice she spoke "M-master, F-fidlon have requested you to meet him in the cellar. He said the 'parcel' has arrived"

"Oh- I understand. thank you, Hannah" Alexander said before looking back at Kristy and me.

"I'm sorry but I have to go, I'll see you later" Alexander said as his eyes sparkled with a lace of sadness.

"It's alright we'll be fine" I told Alexander with a smile.

Without wasting any time Alexander left to the cellar I wonder, who is that person he will be meeting?

After Alexander left, I looked at Kristy and asked her "What should we do now?"

"I… I want to see the lake" Kristy said with her eyes glimmering with a thousand shades of blue.

I pursed my lips.

"I don't think that would be possible, I was told not to go there unless with some company" answering Kristy with such words made me sad- if only I could.

"But I'm a company and Big sister Hannah too" she said as she tip-toed, eyes wide with excitement.

Unsure of what to say I glanced at Hannah for rescue, which she seemed to understand.

"I-I believe that would be a-alright" her answer took me by surprise, I thought she wouldn't agree.

"Aha! Let's goooo…" Kristy said as she runs out of the nursery.

I gave Hannah a nod and exited the room.

On our way towards the lake, Kristy will constantly point at a random flower and say its name.

"Ah these are magnolias and they mean dignity" she said as she stopped in front of a flower patch.

She sure knows a lot about flowers, did Robbie teach those to her?

She looked at me with a wide smile "aren't they pretty?" she asked.

"They sure are very pretty Kristy" I assured her.

Kristy gave me another bright smile before running off.

"The lake!" she shouted.

Both Hannah and I followed Kristy as quickly as we can.

Reaching the lake, I can't help but admire its waters even more than before.

As the sun hits its surface the water reflects it, creating beautiful sparkles like those in an expensive gem.

I held Kristys hand in my own the moment I reached her.

"Don't just run off like that alright, it's dangerous here" I reminded her.

The lake is already dangerous on its own and knowing that unfamiliar creatures lie beneath the surface, just magnifies the danger in a great length.

Kristy nodded her head with guilt showing in her facial features.

"How about we take our shoes off and let the cold water touch our feet?" I asked her, hoping to cheer her up.

Seemingly fond of the idea, she nodded with enthusiasm.

I quickly took my shoes off while the impatient child just kicked hers off.

I looked over at Hannah "What about you Hannah?" I asked, but she only shook her head no.

"I understand" I told her with a smile

Looking back at Kristy, she already went into the shoreline.

Standing there, she's looking at the clear water that's touching her feet- with mesmerizing eyes she held a smile on her face.

This child is truly like an angel.

I stood beside Kristy as both of us enjoyed the feeling of cold water on our feet.

Suddenly, a strong wind blew from behind us which cause my hair to cover my face.

Slightly annoyed, I let go of Kristy's hand in order to quickly fix my hair.

Swiftly, I combed my hair back to its original place, however…

When I finally looked back at Kristy, the child is no longer by my side.

There was a moment of panic, she was just there but now she's nowhere to be found.

I searched my surroundings and sure enough, there is a movement in the water.

Dear God, how could I let this happened? Robbie trusted us to look after Kristy.

I quickly dived into the water hoping it's not too late.

Thankfully, the clean water allowed me to see clearly under the surface.

A meter away I saw an unconscious Kristy sinking further into the depths of the lake, as I feel my heart beating loudly inside my chest I swam towards her.

Upon reaching the child I held her by the arm and pull her up, as our heads once again resurfaced I breathed heavily.

My lung felt like it's on fire.

Looking towards the shore I Hannah, she's standing near the shore her legs tremble as if and lips are slightly ajar. Even with dull eyes and empty expressions I can tell that she's in a state of panic.

"Hannah! Quick!" I shouted as I kept on swimming towards the shore.

But instead of helping us, she turned her back and run.

"I-I will call the Master!" she shouted.

"Wait" I screamed but it was too late she's already far, with a heavy sigh I struggle to reach the shore as I held the unconscious child in my arms.

After some time of struggle, I finally reached the shoreline and quickly laid Kristy on the ground to check her pulse.

Unfortunately, she's barely breathing due to the water that entered her lungs.

Remembering the basics, I started to prepare Kristy for CPR.

First I opened her mouth to give the air a path.

Second I placed my hands right above her sternum or the breast bone, located in the middle of the chest a little higher than the nipples.

The third is the 30 chest compression, with each compression being 2 inches deep.

I placed my hands above her breast bone and started the compression.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6" and I went on.

After the compressions, I gave her two rescue breaths but there still nothing.

I was ready to repeat the cycle when she suddenly coughed.

I released a heavy sigh and hugged Kristy.

"You scared me!" I said as I held her close.

"The lady…" was the last thing Kristy said before everything around us seemed to stop.

As if the world is frozen in time.
