12 Chapter 10
After celebrating Christmas together, we are now planning to celebrate the new year together. The new chapters of our lives.
After what happened to Audrey and Brent last Christmas they don't want to be away from each other anymore. They're still arguing sometimes but unlike before they're now showing their sweet sides to each other. I'm happy for them.
Today, my cousins and I are at the grocery store. We will buy ingredients for the New Year.
Kuya Lloyd bought some Alcoholic drinks. We also bought twelve kinds of fruits and sweets.
Filipinos have so many superstitious beliefs for the new year. It's a tradition.
After buying we went to a food stall to eat. Kuya Lloyd volunteered to order our food.
A few minutes later my phone rang. Renzo calling...
I answered it immediately.
"What do you want?" I asked directly.
"Nothing, I just wanna ask if we need to buy some fireworks?" He asked.
"Yeah, it's okay for me," I said.
"Okay, I'll buy it later. Are you at home?" He asked.
"No, I'm not. We're at the grocery store." I said.
"Oh, who's with you?" He asked.
"I'm with my cousins, why??" I asked.
"Oh, okay. Sorry to disturb you. I'll hang up now." He said.
"All right, bye," I said before he ended the call.
When I turned around I saw Ate May staring suspiciously at me.
"Kiana, are you dating Renzo?" He asked like an agent.
"No, We aren't dating. We're just friends." I told her.
I don't want to date Renzo 'cause I know that one day he'll leave and go back to where he lives. I don't want to get hurt. It's better like this.
"You know that he'll leave. He's not going to stay here forever 'cause he has his own life in the city. So why date him when he'll just 'cause pain?" I said.
She went silent. I stood up and started to walk. They followed me silently until we got home.
I went to the kitchen to eat 'cause I wasn't satisfied with the food we are at the mall.
After I ate I walk into my room, but before I can enter my room Ate May spoke.
"Trust him, Kiana. He did things just to be able to stay here and be with you." She said. "I hope you'll try to give him a chance." She said before walking away.
I know that, but I don't want to think about it anymore. I want him to leave without regrets when the time comes.
After overthinking I slept and woke up to the sound of my cellphone. Renzo calling...
I answered it.
"What took you so long to answer?" He asked.
"I'm still sleeping when you call," I told him.
"Did you eat already?" He asked.
"I told you I'm still in my bed," I said.
"Okay fine, don't skip your breakfast." He said.
"Yeah, I know. You're so annoying." I said.
I can imagine his creased forehead already because of what I said.
"Tsk... I just want to say that I can't wait to celebrate the new year with you." He said.
"Pfft, you're so excited," I said.
He laughed softly.
"Yes, I am, Miss. Eat already, don't wait for me to come over to your house just to feed you." He said.
There he goes again.
"I'm still sleepy," I said.
"You can sleep later when you're done eating. Don't starve yourself. I'll tell your mom that you're not taking care of yourself." He said.
"Okay fine! I'm going to eat now!" I said.
"Good. Make sure that you'll eat a lot." He said before ending the call.
I washed my face and went straight to the kitchen to eat.
The next day I saw my cousins changing our curtains. It's a polka dot curtain.
"Let's wear a polka-dotted dress later, Kiana. All girls should wear a dress." Ate May said.
"Good idea! Critical mind! That's your very first contribution to our family." Kuya Lloyd joked.
Ate May rolled her eyes at Kuya Lloyd.
"Kiana, tell Brent and Renzo to wear polka-dotted shirts, okay? Tell them that if they didn't wear polka-dotted shirts they're not allowed to enter our house." Ate May said.
I laughed at what she said. When the afternoon came Brent called on my phone. He doesn't usually call. I answered it 'cause I also need to tell him that they need to wear polka-dotted shirts.
"Brent! Good thing you called--" I wasn't able to finish what I have to say cause he interrupted me.
"Uhm, Did Renzo go there?" He asked.
His voice is shaking.
"No, why? Is there a problem?" I asked him.
"Fuck, Kiana, Renzo talked to his dad earlier, and their conversation didn't go well," Brent said.
My hand started to sweat because of nervousness.
I could feel that he's also nervous. I can't help but worry about Renzo.
"What happened? Where's Renzo? Did you look for him?" I asked continuously.
"That's what I want to tell you, Kiana. He brought his car when and he's very angry earlier when he left." Brent said.
"Call his phone! Maybe he's just cooling his self down." I told Brent.
Little by little tears started to trickle down my eyes and my knees started to get weak.
"W-Why didn't you told me earlier? You have just called me earlier! It's getting dark, Brent. How are we going to find him." I said with frustration.
"Calm down, Kiana. Wait for him there. I'll go and find him." Brent said.
Ate May helped me sit 'cause I was about to fall on the ground.
"Brent, please look for him anywhere," I said before ending the call.
"Calm down, Kiana. He will come back safe and sound." Ate May said.
I couldn't stop crying anymore. Something bad might happen to him.
After a few moments, Audrey arrived at our house and she immediately hugged me.
I never thought that this would be my new year.
A few hours passed but still no sign of Renzo. Brent didn't call either. It's making me even more nervous.
"What a nice opening of the new year..." I said sarcastically with a sad smile on my face.
Two hours later Brent appeared in our house.
"Where is Renzo? Did you saw him already? Are you with him?" I asked.
I was so shocked when he knelt and shook his head.
I smiled bitterly at him.
"He will come back. I know he won't leave me." I told him.
I sat down again and looked at my watch. It's only an hour before the year ends.
Half an hour passed a familiar car stopped in front of our house.
Brent and I looked at each other.
"I told you... He'll come back..." I said before running into that car.
