2 Taking a Chance

(Y/N)'s POV

I couldn't believe what I had just heard. This girl, did she just ask me what I think she did? To be her boyfriend? 'I should ask her one more time, just to make sure I heard her right.' I thought. "I-I'm sorry, don't know if I heard you right so would you mind repeating yourself one more time please?" I asked in a confused tone.

"S-Sorry, I-It's just...I was just wondering if I could ask you a question. Are you seeing anyone right now?" She asked in a most honest and sweet voice.

"Um...no? Why?" I asked curiously.

'Like I don't already know that answer.' I thought irritated.

"That's wonderful." She smiled happily.

"Huh? It is?"

"Uh...In that case...Since you're single..."

'Oh boy, I know where this is going.' My mind already predicted the outcome of this conversation.

"Do you think you'd like to go out with me?"

She said it, she actually said it. I wasn't hallucinating before. This is actually happening! I was still trying to gather the fact that some girl I've never even seen before just asked me out.

"Go out with you?... Um, I..." I began to speak but the words simply wouldn't come out.

"I've been watching. You pass by here a lot, and every time you always look at the sky a lot and you seem, I dunno, gentle." She explains her reasons shyly as she looked to the ground, avoiding eye contact.

'This...this cannot be happening to me right now. Why now of all times?!' I scream to myself in anger. Not because of this girl, but because of me and what I have to go through.

"See, the thing is-" Yuma quickly perked her head up and looked directly at me, causing me to jump in surprise. "I'd like for you to be my boyfriend!" She yelled so loud, her voice reached the sky. Not only that, but my ears as well.

'I honestly don't know what to say to this girl. I'm really flattered.' I thought to myself as I couldn't speak a single word to her. But...

I dropped my shocked face and looked at her with my serious expression, in hopes that she'll understand what I'm about to say. "Listen, you seem like a very nice girl..." The moment I said this, she smiled so happily. "But..." I continued, causing her to look at me with shock in her eyes. "The thing is, I'm not really interested in something like a relationship right now. Besides, if you got together with me-" I turned my back to her, not wanting to show my face full of disappointment. "You'd only get hurt." I could tell she was shocked, I could hear her gasp in sadness. "I'm sorry." The moment I said that, I began to walk away.

Yuma remained silent, simply standing there from what I could tell. The only footsteps I could hear were my own.

"I-" she spoke, and I stopped. "I understand." I turned around and saw her bowing in my direction. "I'm sorry to have dropped all this on you. Please forgive me." She slowly turned and walked away.

I simply watch as she walks away, ever so slowly. I begin to head my way as well, but that's when I hear something I wished I didn't...Crying. I turned around and noticed that she was crying.

'What have I done? I made a girl cry, I shot her down because I didn't want her to get involved with a guy like me!' I yelled at myself. 'Poor girl. She probably had to work up the courage to even try this.' I felt so ashamed of myself. I had to do something. So I did, I ran after her. "Wait!" I called. "Hold on a second please!"

She turned towards me with tears in her eyes.

"Here." I pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to her so she could dry her eyes. "Listen, I feel really bad about just turning you down like that without even giving it a second thought. I guess I was just scared of what might happen if things played out like I thought." The moment I said this, Yuma looked at me surprised. "And I honestly don't know how good I'd be at this whole dating thing...So how about this, we go on a date and see how things turn out? Does that seem fair?" I gave her a questioned look, her eyes however widened at my suggestion.

But she began to cry again.

I began to panic, how could I make a girl cry two times in a row?! "Ah! Come on don't cry! If that won't work than what will?!" I asked, nearly fearing for my life.

Suddenly, she tackled me to the ground, making her slender figure lay on top of me. "Oh (Y/N)-" she cried. She then looked at me with the happiest smile I've ever seen in my entire life, though her eyes were still tearful.

I did the best I could to hide my blushing face, but failed as she hugged me tightly.

"I'm the happiest girl in the entire world!" She yelled happily.

I smiled softly and we both rose up from the ground and collected our stuff as we dusted ourselves off.

"That deal will work just fine with me! As long as I get to spend time with you, that's all that matters!"

"Well, I'm glad you feel that way." I say as I smile at her.

"Oh! I almost forgot." She then hands me the handkerchief I lent her. But pushed it back to her, making her look confused.

"Keep it." I say.

"'Kay!" She simply replied.

"Well, it's getting late, we should get going back home. I'll see you tomorrow Yuma." I said as I waved goodbye to her and walked away.

"Wait, we should exchange numbers. That way we have a way to contact each other." She suggested.

"I suppose that makes sense, sure."

We exchanged numbers and she smiled with a light red blush on her face.

"W-Well, goodnight (Y/N)! I'll see you tomorrow!" She happily waves back.

I watched her run in the opposite direction I was going with a smile on her face. But as I continued to walk, one thought continued to roll around in my mind. 'I hope I know what I'm doing.'

Home

The sun had completely disappeared from the sky, letting the moon illuminate the night sky with its majesty. Next to the brightly shining stars in the empty space above.

I was just laying on my bed, staring at the ceiling above my head. Silence filled the whole house. I wasn't expecting anything to make noise, or anyone, in that case, I lived alone. Issei and his parents would come over from time to time to hang out and check up on me, but that didn't change the fact that I've lived by myself, alone for nearly ten years.

Large Open Field

As I slowly drifted off to sleep, a memory suddenly rushed through my mind. A memory I had long thought I had long forgotten. A memory from my distorted past.

I saw a younger version of myself, wandering aimlessly through a deep thick forest. Crying his eyes out.

"Mommy *hic* Daddy, why'd you go? Where did you go? *hic* Why didn't you take me with you?" My child version cried.

I watched all this happen, knowing full well that I couldn't do anything to help the child in front of me.

"Stop crying, it won't bring them back." I said bluntly, trying hold back my own tears.

Suddenly, a harsh wind blew past the two of us. We did our best to stay in place, but we both struggled. The wind began to die down, but as it did a loud thud erupted from in front of us. Naturally curious, we looked up and saw something out of this world.

"Why do you cry, child?" The voice asked.

What we saw was something incredible.

Wings as big as hilltops, scales, and fur as blue as the sky, and ruby crystals as red as blood coated ice. This being was simply incredible.

"Well? Why do you cry?" It asked once more.

"Who are you?" My younger self asked.

The creature grew a tick mark on its head, and used his finger to bop me on the head, and while he tried to hit it gently, it really hurt.

"OW! What was that for you big bully!?"

"Don't answer my question with a question boy!"

The child version of myself and the blue and red dragon stared at each other, the smaller me holding back his tears, quickly whipping them away. "W-Well, it's rude to ask some for there name when you haven't even given your own!" My younger self yelled, pointing at the giant reptile-like creature.

"..." The scaly creature fell silent, as a sweatdrop slid down the side of his head. "I suppose you're right." After he spoke, his wings flew wide open, sending a loud and hard wind past the two of us. "Very well! Listen close human child, for my identity shall be embedded into you feeble adolescent mind! My name is Starvlador, I am the Azure Dragon Emperor, the True Dragon!" He posed so dramatically, pointing his thumb to his chest with a cocky smile on his face.

The two of us simply stared dumbfounded at this self-righteous seeming dragon.

"I forgot how prideful he was back in the day." I said as I walked away.

"Mommy *hic* Daddy..." The younger me cried as he walked away with me.

"HEY!!! GET BACK HERE!!!" The dragon shouted comedically.

He then slammed his tail down on the ground, stopping the younger me in his tracks, causing him to scream at the top of his lungs in fear at the sight of his life nearly ending by a giant tail.

"What was that for?!" He asked enraged.

"I told you who I was, it's your turn!" The dragon yelled.

"O-Oh. W-Well, my name's (Y/N)."

"Very well. So then (Y/N), why were you crying?"

The younger me froze up. Looking to the ground, struggling to find the right words to say.

"Don't hold back, just stay it." I said, knowing that none of them could hear me.

"M-My parents. My Mommy and Daddy...I can't find them. They disappeared and I can't find them. Now..." He began to cry again, he tried to whip his tears from his eyes to prevent them from falling to the ground. "I'm all alone."

Suddenly, a sharp, cold and hard nail moved across his cheek, wiping the tear from his face.

"Cry no more child. From this day onward...you will no longer be alone."

Reality

The world suddenly dispersed and I opened my eyes once again, still looking at the ceiling. "Why is that memory the clearest?" I pondered.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed at the end of my bed. I turn my head and look towards it. I grab it and see Yuma's name as the caller. 'It hasn't even been a full day. Aren't people normally supposed to wait like three days?' I thought as I answered the call. "Hello?" I answered in a groggy tone.

"U-Um...hi (Y/N)." Her voice could be heard on the phone.

"Yuma? Hey, what's up?" I questioned as I look at my alarm clock and saw it was 12 a.m. "It's midnight, is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just...wanted to hear your voice. I couldn't sleep. I've been thinking about you all night." She spoke so innocently and honestly.

'Wow...I don't know how to even respond to that.' I think to myself. "Okay, then what do you want me to say that'll help."

Yuma fell silent as she sounded like she was thinking about something for me to say that would help.

"I-I dunno, anything?"

"Okay, let's see." I pondered at what I should say. 'Something simple should work for now.' I thought to myself, only to come up with nothing. "Sorry. I...don't really know what to say. I've never really done anything like this before." I admitted.

"N-No, it's okay. I'm sorry I asked." She apologized. "I guess I'm just really nervous. Dating someone I mean."

I chuckled at Yuma's claim. "Well, same goes for me. I've never dated anyone either. But I think we can manage to figure it out." I said encouragingly.

"Y-Yeah, you're right. We can work together and figure it out!" She cheered. "Thanks for everything today (Y/N), sweet dreams." She bid.

"Sure thing's. Goodnight." I said as I hear her connection disconnect. I looked up to my ceiling once more before closing my eyes for good tonight. But I still couldn't shake this weird feeling I had. 'Why do feel so uneasy?' I thought before my consciousness left me.

3rd Person POV

The bright sunlight shined through (Y/N)'s curtains and slightly illuminated his bedroom through the cracks. The (H/C) boy seemed as though he was enjoying his slumber. Suddenly, his alarm clock went off. (Y/N) grew irritated with the noise but he knew what it meant, so he lifted his hand and slapped the snooze button.

"Ugh..." He groaned as he raised himself out from under his bed covers. Mere seconds afterward his awakening, his phone went off.

He looked over to his phone and looked at the new message he was sent.

Unsurprisingly, it was Yuma. "Good Morning!" Her text read.

'This girl...seriously?' He thought, but responded anyway with a simple "Mornin'".

After that, he began his usual routine. Once he finished, he left his home and headed for school. On his way there, across the bridge, someone familiar was standing there, as if they were waiting for someone nervously.

'Wow...she's here already?' (Y/N) thought as he continued walking.

She eventually took notice of him and gave a warm smile as she ran to him. "Good morning!" She greeted happily.

"Mornin'." He responded casually. "Should we get going?"

"Sure." She responded happily.

'Yuma seems really happy this morning. I wonder if it has anything to do with last night?'

"So...how was your night? Did you sleep well?" (Y/N) asked her.

"Oh yes! Thanks for asking..." She suddenly fell silent. "Actually..." She continued.

'Here we go.'

"It was because of you I actually had the best sleep I've had in a long while. You sounded so reassuring that every once of nervousness faded away, so thank you." Her smile caused his face to turn slightly red, but he felt happy none the same. (Y/N) was glad that she felt happy about it.

"I see. That's good. I'm happy I could help."

They continue walking to their schools, but (Y/N) suddenly spots two figures he recognized all too well. So he decided to call out to them.

"Motohama! Matsuda! Mornin' you two."The (H/C) boy cheer loudly, causing them to turn and face my direction.

"Morni-?!" Matsuda greeted normally, but his face turned to shock almost instantly.

"Matsuda what's wro-?!" Motohama became the same way.

"The hell's up with them?" (Y/N) asked.

"Do you know them?" Yuma asked.

"Yeah, they're...acquaintances from school." He said acquaintances because he doesn't necessarily like them because they're perverts, but still talk to them regardless.

"No...please God." Matsuda cried.

"No way!" Motohama complained.

Yuma and (Y/N) simply stared at them silently, causing awkward silence to form between us.

"So who are these guys exactly?" She asked.

"Oh right. I guess I should introduce you to them, huh?" (Y/N) walked in front of Yuma and place his hand in front of her, as if he were presenting her.

"Guys this is Yuma Amano. Yuma, these are my..."friends", Matsuda and Motohama." (Y/N) seemed hesitant to say friends, as he tried to say it as lightly as possible.

"It's very nice to meet you." She said as she bowed.

"W-What's your relation with (Y/N)?" Motohama asked with a small hint of rage in his tone.

"W-Well...she's my...uh..." He tried to think of what to call her, as they weren't really in a relationship yet. At least he didn't think they were.

"I'm his girlfriend." She happily spoke.

The two groaned in angst and shock.

'Well...rip it off like a bandaid I guess.' (Y/N) thought as he looked at his watch. "Crap, Yuma we gotta get going or we're going to be late." He said as the boy began to slowly walk ahead of her.

"'Kay!" She yelled running after (Y/N), but not before bowing to the two who still remained shocked and silent.

'Not too much drama today, thank God.' (Y/N) thought as Yuma and he walked home through the deep sunset. "Hey (Y/N)?" Yuma called out, snapping him out of his daze.

"Sorry, just thinking about stuff. What's up?" He asked smiling at her.

"I was wondering if we could go on a date tomorrow." She asked.

"Tomorrow? Yeah sure, I don't mind."

"Great, how about we meet in the middle of town around noon?"

"Sure, sounds good."

"Great!" She cheered happily and began to walk away. But not before turning back around and giving (Y/N) a quick peck on the cheek, catching him off guard a little bit. "I really am glad you're my boyfriend!" She proclaimed as she ran in the opposite direction once again.

(Y/N) walk the rest of the way home on his own, with nothing but a small smile on his face.

(Y/N)'s Home

Once he got home, he decided to relax the rest of the night. And before he knew it, it was already dark outside. He headed upstairs and got ready for bed. Once (Y/N) had finished, he climbed into bed and prepared to doze off to sleep.

But, once again, he found himself looking up at the ceiling with both his hands behind his head. (Y/N) raised his hand upwards and held it open."Can I really do this whole relationship thing?" (Y/N) asked himself silently before tightly gripping his hand shut. He then closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

'Tomorrow's the day. Tomorrow, I'll officially have a girlfriend. I want things to go well, I hope they do.'
