16 Let Me Serve You

This is all I need.

Inside this fort, I can outlast life.

Nothing can assail me. Yet, I have my machine-

I can see whatever I wish. My realm has no borders.

How I love the simplicity of my throne!

Had God been ok with it, I'd have stayed there forever.

But God said no.

"Look out the window. See what you are missing?

There is something- someone - better out there!"

My gate is barred. The walls which had defended me,

Now protect you.

They shield you from a man who is barely worthy

to glance in your direction.

"God, please let me out!"

The lengths I will go to so I can serve her are limitless.

Give me time, and I will strengthen myself;

I will tear down the gate with my bare hands.

The same strength I will use to protect her

From even the slightest abrasion.

Trade my life for money to support her;

All pleasures can wait- they can be forfeited-

As long as it gives me even a minuscule chance

Of intimacy with her later.

Despite giving life my all,

Who is to say I am worthy?

Who is to say I am a man?

Men tremble in her presence,

Yet they do not know where their fear comes from.

The woman is arbiter of love.

She will tell them if they pass-

She will say if they succeed.

Does she understand

the power God has bestowed on her?

Now, with my patience

With my maddening desire to be with you,

I have torn down the gates with my hands.

Kneeling, I am ready

To serve

To protect

To support you.

Will you knight me, or

Will you say no?

Like leaches, men can drain life.

With each one that approaches

You can only ask what he wants:

Your time?
